THE OLIN T. BINKLEY MEMORIAL BAPTIST CHURCH WORSHIP Christian Education Celebration May 22, 2011 BECOMING AWARE OF GOD S PRESENCE Eventually, all things merge into one, and a river runs through it. The river was cut by the world s great flood and runs over rocks from the basement of time. On some of the rocks are timeless raindrops. Under the rocks are the words, and some of the words are theirs. ~Norman Maclean CHIMING PRELUDE Largo in G G. F. RESPONDING *A VISION FOR CHRISTIAN FORMATION AT BINKLEY (in unison) Christian Formation at Olin T. Binkley Memorial Baptist Church strives to create a variety of sacred spaces in which all people feel welcome and can nurture their spiritual lives no matter where they are on their journey. We explore Biblical narratives and Christian theology, and we ground ourselves in the traditions of Church. We celebrate God by making music together in its many different forms. We foster discussion and encourage action in areas of peace and justice as we strive to be a covenantal community inspired by Christ's example. We trust that all of the components of Binkley's Christian Formation program lead to sound character formation for members of this faith community. We create safe spaces to question, to explore spiritual practices in Christianity and other faith traditions, and to challenge ourselves toward spiritual growth. We provide support for our teachers and intergenerational relationships/mentorships. We foster community, faithful public leadership, social service opportunities, and the pursuit of one s spiritual vocation. We provide opportunities for all people to experience God s love within ourselves, in community and in nature. Christian Formation at Binkley is at the heart of all we do as we follow and find the path of Christ. Your Word, Oh Lord, a wondrous star to eyes that would behold it; A guiding light in skies of night to sailors lost, confounded; So eyes, as trav'lers seeking refuge, find it brightly burning And fill their deepest yearning. Your Word, Oh Lord, a mightly rock to feet that lack commitment; A strong foundation built upon unchanging truths, transcendent; So feet, as firmly planted stones, may never move or alter, Stand fast and never falter.
