NEWSLETTER For the Diocese of London Deaf Churches DECEMBER 2018 BSL Christmas Worship 7 th December at 6.30pm Annunciation Church, Bryanston St. Marble Arch, W1H 7AH St. Paul s Cathedral, Midnight Mass 11.30pm Christmas Eve 24 th December Come and share in this special service to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Preacher : Mr Matthew Adedeji Come and join us for the Christmas story and traditional signed carols. Minced pies and mulled wine will be served after the service. Did you know? Some Christians do not like it when people use Xmas instead of Christmas. Xmas is an old word that has been in use for centuries as the X is the Greek letter chi which is the first letter of Christ s name in Greek (CristoV = Christos). Happy Xmas! BSL church in North London? There are discussions about setting up a new church in the Archway/ North London area. It would be a Sunday morning service each week. If you are interested in being involved to help to start this church please contact the Chaplain. Contact The Revd Catherine Carlyon Text/ voice/ Facetime. 07855 098953 Email catherine.carlyon@london.anglican.org Website:- www.londondeafchurch.com Post address: 2 Anatola Road, London N19 5HN Crown Centre Christmas Service and dinner. Our Christmas service will be at 10am on 16 th December and afterwards we will have our Christmas meal at 12 midday at Uxbridge Golf Club. To book your meal please contact Aileen Cranwell or Agnes Pusey. From the Chaplain.. these past few years have seen several events of the 1 st World War remembered. All these events came together on 11 th November 2018 as we commemorated 100 years since the signing of the Armistice the agreement to stop fighting and agree peace terms. Many of us remembered members of our own families involved in that war and I wonder what they would think, if they were still alive with us today, of how war and conflict continue to affect the lives of people across the world. For Christians and many people across the world, Christmas is a reminder of hope and peace, even for those with little or no faith in Jesus. It is a chance to reconnect with family and friends and remember the precious things in our lives that bring harmony and peace. A chance to remember how important love is. John s Gospel reminds us that Greater love has no one than this, to lay down one s life for one s friends (15:13). Just as our family members in the past may have given their lives for the freedom of their country and world, so Jesus was born for the purpose of giving his life that we may have freedom from sin and know the overwhelming love of our Father in heaven.
