You survived the Holidays! Christmas and New Years are a memory and 2015 lies before us. I was asked recently what my theme was for my year as Master. I keep coming back to these three little but powerful words, Lead by Example. Talk is cheap and easy to deliver; actions certainly do speak much louder than words and are thus more difficult to practice. When judgment day comes, we will be held accountable for our actions here on earth. When you proclaim you are a Mason, you will again be judged by your peers and strangers as to your actions of today, yesterday and tomorrow. So I urge my officers, past masters and brothers of Unity Lodge to: Lead by Example. Currently Unity Lodge has 272 members; over 94% are Master Masons. So do you know the average age of the brothers of Unity Lodge? Well it s 65.43 years old. We are attracting younger men, but that number also points out that many of our brothers may not be physically capable of attending lodge and it may be as simple as lack of transportation. The first and most important job I have along these lines is to make sure the lodge calendar is as accurate as possible so that when brothers do have an opportunity to come back to lodge it s not a wasted effort. Life is fast these days and plans change quite rapidly and I can t guarantee there won t be last minute changes but I will strive to make sure these are few and far between. The easiest date is our stated meetings along with the stated meeting dinner. These 2 events happen on the second Wednesday of the month, dinner at 6:30pm and lodge at 7:30pm. Come rain, sleet, snow, Santa Anna winds, wild fires or darkness of night, every second Wednesday of the month we will be at 3366 Adams Ave in San Diego. Degree nights will be a little trickier as there are certain requirements we must meet before we put on a degree. I promise to do my best on the scheduling. Once it s scheduled, it will only change if the brother or candidate has a last minute emergency that is unavoidable. It is incumbent upon the officers and brothers, who comprise the degree teams to study their ritual, attend practice and participate with pride. There is no single brother that can do the work alone, it is a team effort. By being a team player, the pillars of Unity lodge will be able to maintain their commitments to the events scheduled. The next step is making sure that our elder brothers that want to come to lodge can. They may no longer be capable of driving or just uncomfortable driving at night and don t have anyone that can get them to lodge. So I am asking for volunteers that would be willing to give a brother a ride to lodge and then back home on stated meeting and degree nights. Please call (619) 501-5515 or email (Continued on page 4)

P a g e 2 T h e T r e s t l e b o a r d From the West... The new year has begun and there have been many events so far. We had the Diamond Jubilee ceremony with Grand Lodge present. We also had our stated meeting. We still have plenty more coming this month. We have a 3rd degree coming up early February. I hope some of our brethren can join us for the 3rd degree and meet our newest master mason brother. More brethren at a third degree is always better. I have now started planning my calendar for next year. If anyone has suggestions for changes or additions, I am always available for a conversation. I am in talks with Silver Gate 3 Star and Black Mountain to organize a district Christmas party. I am also looking to combining the Stated Meeting and the Thanksgiving dinner together. Also the Stated Meeting and Christmas dinner. We all have busy lives. I am sure most of us will be going to more than one dinner. Having additional dinners during those months only makes planning more difficult for everyone. I am also looking for suggestions for one of the picnics. This year we will be trying a Padres game. Maybe next year we can have one of the picnics at a Padres game also or a similar event. Based off this year's attendance for the pancake breakfast and mother s day brunch, I will determine if I will keep them for next year. The last couple years there has been very small attendance to these events. Maybe we can remove these events and utilize our brethren for other events. Rico Castelo Hello all. It is my pleasure to invite you to several events in February. When we say we invite you, we mean all our brothers and their families, all our honored ladies and the ones they count on to get them to our events. It includes everyone in our Masonic family who want to enjoy themselves whether they be from a lodge near or far or a brother and their family members who have not breached our doors in years. You are welcome and we will do our best to make you know we appreciate your attendance when the world is full of things to do. A 3 rd degree will be held on the 4 th, at 6:30. Let us invigorate this new From the South... Master Mason by giving him the energy of your attendance. Every new Master Mason deserves good attendance and a good meal at his 3 rd degree and we invite you to enjoy both. The meal, for our attending Master Mason brothers, following the degree, is complimentary. On the morning of February 7 th we will provide the sunshine, or at least the Sunnyside up, when you come for breakfast and be served a plethora of breakfast staples. Drop in for a quick pancake or put us to the task of whipping up special omelets or have one of everything. If you are attending the exemplification of the 3 rd degree, at Scottish rite that morning, support your lodge by allowing us to wake you up and get you on your way with doughnuts and strong coffee. You choose our worth by donations applicable to your breakfast order and your generosity. February 11 th is our stated meeting and we will celebrate love and our official visit from our district inspector. We will be serving a delicious roast beef meal with a vegetable medley, mashed potatoes, a green salad, dinner rolls, very sugary and delectable desserts, and an assortment of drinks. (Including a assortment of hot teas) Dinner is suggested $10 donation. Charity is greatest among these and so is grabbing the arm of a brother who cannot afford to support the treasury as much as he supports our lodge. We invite you to take the opportunity to bring a brother back into the lodge. With pleasure we will be serving our Honored Ladies by holding our very special Honored Ladies Tea, February 21 st from 10 to 1. Flowers, musical entertainment, fun and laughs will be our goal as we liven up the atmosphere and treat our guests with pomp and flare. That means we will endeavor to show our Honored ladies a lively atmosphere and provide our traditional teas and varieties of finger sandwiches, fresh fruit plates, exotic cheese plates, and things we have not even thought of yet but will be delicious. P a g e 4 T h e T r e s t l e b o a r d From the Secretary s Desk... As a reminder we will vote on the Proposed Dues Resolution during the February Stated Meeting. If it is approved, it is a By Law change and will be submitted to Grand Lodge for their approval. Per Capita this year is $39.50 per member and is included in your annual dues. We are still collecting Dues for the 2015 Masonic year. As of the January stated meeting we have received the Dues from 114 of the 211 dues paying members. Please try to get yours dues paid so the Lodge and Master, have the funds to run the programs planned for this year. We had 14 Brother who failed to pay their due for the 2014 Masonic year. I would love to have 100% paid this year. I have set the goal of 100% dues receive by the end of April. So, please send in your dues. You can now pay your dues via credit or debit card. Please see the lodge website for details. Terry Allison PM (From the East Continued from page 1) the secretary: secretary@unitylodge632.com to volunteer. When you do, please let him know the area of San Diego you can help service, as we all know, Unity lodge is much more than just the local Normal Heights community in which the lodge resides. Finally, if you are a brother or widow that wants to attend and need a ride, you too need to contact the secretary at (619) 501-5515 or email the secretary: secretary@unitylodge632.com. Please let him know if you have any special needs and which dates or events you would like to attend and need a ride for. The Grand Lodge of California started a program called Coming Home back in 2010. We took a vow to care for our brothers and that includes helping them stay connected to the fellowship and shared values at blue lodge. Let s have Unity Lodge keep that initiative alive by making an effort to bring all members, new and sen- ior, active and inactive, back to their blue lodge, beginning with the February stated meeting. It s an event that will reaffirm our fraternal commitment, celebrate our shared Masonic experiences, reach out to inactive brothers and something you can be proud to be a part of. Finally I encourage you to bring your family and friends to the Unity Lodge Pancake Breakfast Social on Saturday February 7 starting at 8am and running until 10am. Start your day off with fellowship and a hearty meal. Ladies, (men are invited too) don t forget about the annual Honored Ladies Tea to be held on Saturday February 21 at the Normal Heights Masonic Center from 10am to 1pm. I am sure there will be some tasty teas, scrumptious sandwiches and delectable deserts. See you at lodge! Steve Bumgarner (From the South Continued from page 2) you know any honored lady who would enjoy this event, it is your duty as a brother of this lodge to show love and respect and if need be chauffeur one or more to our tea. This is a complimentary event. We look forward to hearing your input, new ideas, into how to provide the atmosphere at our events that will make you want to come and instill those things into our programs that are fun and charitable to concordant bodies and youth groups, so we may involve a new generation and support our large Masonic family. Robert Dockery PM
