Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. We ve been together just over a month and I know it s been a time of excitement and anticipation. As I said in my first sermon I know what you must be thinking: O boy we get to break in a new priest And you know what I m thinking: O boy I get to break in a new congregation. I know that times of transition aren t always easy but I pray this is a time of joy as we learn to minister together. I suppose my adult life has always been in transition. My husband and I have lived and taught in 5 countries and 4 states. We love adventure and don t shy away from change. We have come to Lake Coverdale as a place to rest and work and play and with the plans to retire here. In the early 80 s Chuck and I took teaching assignments in Amman Jordan, staying two years. From there we went to Yanbu al Sinai, Saudi Arabia for another two years. Followed by a year in Quito Ecuador. We spent our summers on Kelleys Island. After Ecuador we were stateside and taught in the Toledo area and I pursued a Masters degree in Exercise Science. Upon graduation we set off for another adventure in Seoul, South Korea. After a year it felt like it was time to come home. We returned to the Toledo area for a year and then headed to California. It was in California (Lone Pine CA) where a kindly priest at an Episcopal Church introduced me to Jesus Christ and well we re living the rest of the story. Chuck and I could have stayed on familiar paths all along the way but had that been the case -- look at what would have missed. On the familiar path we know the routine and we get used to the scenery and often miss what s right before our eyes. On the unfamiliar path we keep better watch we look for new signs and wonders. We meet new people, try new things; we bring new life to daily routines. I hope we will enjoy this new path of ministry that we taken on together. I pray we will grow together in love, faith, and service. As a friend of mine reminded me about transitions You re not changing you are growing. Would you like to join me in this changing time this growing time. With that, know that we are on a mission here at St. John of the Cross. May we journey together on paths both familiar and strange, lifting each other up in prayer and love. And whichever road we take may we be open to God s hand and open to what he may have in store for our lives. Let us look with eyes of faith to see the possibilities and potential that God sees in us. With my deepest gratitude for all that you do I am THANK YOUS Yours in Christ, Carol+ --Karen Hipsher and all who helped her with the Welcome Brunch for Rev. Carol. --All who participated in the softball games, including the fans who cheered them on. Fun was had by all. --To all who helped with the Strawberry Festival and parade. --Everyone who volunteered at the Food Pantry in the month of August --Those who worked to set up the mass and the picnic on August 21. A special thanks to Cindy Keck for the many things attended to by her. --To Debbie Zimmerman, Jan Riley and Ann Raftree for their recent contributions of kitchen supplies. --To Don Bloom for his expert carpentry work in the construction of the new badge board. --To Cindy and Bob Dixon for arranging and overseeing the recent Garage/Craft/Baked Goods Sale.

SUNDAY SCHOOL CORNER Sunday school will begin on September 11th. Students in elementary school will remain in church until after the Gospel and then head downstairs for class. Nursery services will also be available at this time. We have the same lineup of teachers (Anne, Dawn, Liz, and Skip), Anne will teach in September and October. There will be opportunities for middle and high school students to participate in the church service, just as the adults do, as servers, ushers, readers, and musicians. We will be working with parents to see what kind of Christian formation program would be most meaningful for these kids and what time would work out best. All the teachers appreciate the strong support of the congregation and ask that you keep us in your prayers and continue to provide ideas for us to utilize in the classroom. We are looking forward to another good year with our amazing kids! DAUGHTERS OF THE KING FALL ASSEMBLY September 24, 2011 at Holy Family Episcopal Church (909 S.
