At right, Clantons Battery fires a salute. Camp 911 members participating were Ray Kyle, Stuart Mock, and Larry Sasser. Information and vendor tables were set up inside the Civic Center. Above, Camp 911 Commander Joe Clark represented the SCV. At right, Gen. Edmond Winchester Rucker 2534, UDC Vice President Georgia Fleming represented the Battle of Newton Society and the UDC.

Confederate Trivia by Georgia Fleming I. Where were the following Confederate armies/forces surrendered? For a bonus point, to whom were they surrendered? 1. General Robert E. Lee, Army of Northern Virginia, April 9, 1865 2. Maj. General Howell Cobb, District of Georgia and Florida, April 20, 1865 3. General Joseph Johnston, Army of Tennessee (plus all other Confederate forces in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina), April 26, 1865 4. Lt. General Richard Taylor, Confederate Department of Alabama, Mississippi, and East Louisiana, May 4, 1865 5. Major General Dabney Herndon Maury, Confederate District of the Gulf, May 4, 1865 6. Lt. General Nathan Bedford Forrest, Forrests Cavalry Corps, May 9, 1865 7. Brig. General James Martin, District of Western North Carolina; and Col. General Stand Watie, First Indian Brigade of the Army of the Trans-Mississippi, June 23, 1865 13. Commander James Iredell Waddell, CSS Shenandoah, November 6, 1865 II. Can you name the commanders of these units that were never surrendered? 1. Partisan Rangers (43rd Battalion, Virginia Cavalry), disbanded April 21, 1865, at Salem, Virginia 2. Department of East Tennessee and Southwestern Virginia, disbanded at Saltville, Virginia, May 15, 1865 3. Remaining field forces of the District of Texas, New Mexico, and Arizona, disbanded May 30, 1865, at Brownsville, Texas 4. The Iron Brigade and other troops of the Missouri Division crossed the Rio Grande into Piedas Negras, Empire of Mexico, July 4, 1865 III. Can you name the two brothers who were not included in the general amnesty after the war? They spent the rest of their lives in Liverpool, England, and are buried in Toxteth Park Cemetery in Liverpool. The withdrawal of a State from a league has no revolutionary or insurrectionary characteristic. The government of the State remains unchanged as to all internal affairs. It is only its external or confederate relations that are altered. To term this action of a Sovereign a rebellion is a gross abuse of language Jefferson Davis
