Welcome to Camp!!! The entire staff here at Cedar Lake Camp is excited that you are here. This year we will be studying Paul s three missionary journeys from the second half of the book of Acts. If you were here last year, you will hopefully remember that we learned about when Paul first believed in Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus. He was called Saul then and was a persecutor of the church. This year we will read about all that he accomplished and all that he suffered for the cause of Christ. This is your booklet to work through this week and to keep after camp. You will receive your awards in this book at the end of the week, so hang on to it. The most important thing you find in the book is your daily Bible studies. You may work through these studies during your personal devotion time or any time during the day. Your personal devotions, each morning, is a time for you to spend learning about and focusing on God.

Bible Award You will earn your Bible Award if you do all of your daily readings, answer the questions correctly, and memorize the verse for each day. The Bonus verses are for extra points. Sundays Memory Verse: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have ever lasting life. Sunday s Bonus Verse: Luke 24:46-47 And (He) said unto them, Thus it is written, thus it behooved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

Devotions: The word Gospel means good news. This week we are reading about how the good news of Jesus resurrection began spreading throughout the Gentile world. Read: Acts 13: 1-12 1. Where is the church, that is mentioned in verse one, located? 2. Who did the Holy Spirit say should be set apart for His work? 3. When they reached Salamis, where did they begin preaching the gospel? Read: Acts 13: 13-43 1. What nation s history was Paul s message about? 2. What was Paul trying to show the Jews in this message?

3. In verse 39, what does Paul say that belief in Jesus does? Read: Acts 13:44-52 1. As a rule, how were the Jews responding to what Paul was preaching? 2. Who did Paul and Barnabas turn to when the Jews rejected what they were saying? Memory Verse: I Timothy 2:5-6 For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. Bonus Memory Verse: Ephesians 1:7-8 In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.

Devotions: Today we will finish reading what all Paul and Barnabas did during their first Missionary Journey, and about the council at Jerusalem. Read: Acts 14:1-28 1. Why did Paul and Barnabas have to leave Iconium? 2. What did the people at Lystra do after God healed the lame man through Paul? 3. What was Paul and Banabas reaction to this? 4. What did the Jews encourage the multitude to do to Paul? 5. Where did Paul and Barnabas end their journey?

Read: Acts 15:1-35 1. Who was leading the church in Jereuselum? 2. What did they decide the Gentile Jews would have to do with the law of Moses? Memory Verse: Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is a gift of God; Not of works, lest any man should boast. Bonus Memory Verse: Galatians 5:13-14 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.

Devotions: Keep in mind how new the Gospel was and what it must have been like sharing this news with people for the first time. Read: Acts 15:36 Acts 16:40 1. What did Paul and Barnabas disagree on? 2. Who did Paul end up taking with him on his journey? 3. What did Paul have a vision of in verse 9? 5. What did Paul tell the jailer he must do to be saved?

Read Acts 17:1-15 1. What did the noble Jews at Berea do that was very wise? 2. From what you have read, what do you think it was like to live as a believer during the days of Acts? Memory Verse: Philippians 2:3-4 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others. Bonus Memory Verse: Philippians 2:5-8 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: And being found in fashion as a man He humbled Himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

Devotions: This is my favorite account of Paul preaching. Pay carful attention to how Paul tries to convince his audience that they should follow Jesus. Read: Acts 17:16-34 1. How would you describe the audience Paul was talking too at Athens? 2. What had Paul seen when he was looking through their religious statues? 3. What should everyone do before God? 4. What proof did God give of who Jesus is?

Read: Acts 18:1-22 1. What did God promise Paul while in Corinth? 2. How long did Paul stay in Corinth? Memory Verse: Revelation 4:11 Thou are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Bonus Memory Verse: Ephesians 5: 15-16 See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

Devotions: We are getting toward the end of Acts. After his third missionary journey, Paul would be arrested and taken to Rome. Read: Acts 18:23-28 1. Who s teaching had Apollos heard and what did he not understand? 2. What did Apollos use to show that Jesus was the Christ? Read: Acts 19:1-41 1. What does verse 10 tell us about the spread of the Gospel? 2. Why do you think the seven sons of Sceva could not cast out the evil spirit?

3. After they were chased out of the house by the Evil Spirit, what does verse 17 say happened to the name of the Jesus? 4. What was Demetrius occupation? 5. What was his problem with what Paul was teaching the people at Ephesus? Memory Verse: Ephesians 6:1-2a Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honor thy father and mother. Bonus Memory Verse: Ephesians 5:3-4 But do not let immorality or any impurity or greed even be named among you, as is proper among saints; and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, such are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. (NASB)

Bonus Reading This is the further account of Paul s actions in the book of Acts. Read Acts 20-22 Read Acts 23-24 Bonus Bible Memorization Romans 3:23 Romans 6:23 Romans 5:8 Romans 10:9 Romans 5:1 Romans 8:1 Romans 8:38-39 Read Acts 25-26 Read Acts 27-28 And of course, you may read any part of the Bible you wish. It is all profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and instruction in righteousness. If you want to do a lot of extra reading during your time at camp, I highly encourage you to read the gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.
