CHURCH COVENANT What experience defines our spiritual fellowship and covenant relationship? Congregation: Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus as our Savior and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, we do now in the presence of God, angels, and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. What is the bond of our union? Congregation: We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love; What are our privileges and duties in this Church? Congregation: To strive for the advancement of this Church in knowledge and holiness; To give it a place in our affections, prayers, and services, above every organization of human origin; To sustain its worships, ordinances, discipline, and doctrine; What vows do we make as stewards of God's gifts of money, time, and talent? Congregation: To contribute cheerfully and regularly, as God has prospered us, toward its expenses for the support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. To what lifestyle and conversation are we pledged? Congregation: In case of difference of opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit; and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to govern. We also engage to maintain family and secret devotion; to study diligently the Word of God, to religiously educate our children. To seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintance; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our employ and faithful in the service we promise others, endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will toward all men exemplify and commend our holy faith; Praying Always for Our Church Family Askew, Sister Mary Mack, Sister Vanessa Bazemore, Sister Jean McPherson, Sister Hattie Boyd, Sister Minnie Moore, Sister Ola Chapman, Sister Inez Moye, Sister Christine Clark, Evangelist Dorothy Nibblett, Brother John Cuffee, Sister Dorothy Perry, Sister Hester Daniels, Brother Mack Porter, Sister Fannie Elliott, Sister Linda Porter, Sister Mary W. Congregation: We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other unto every good work; to guard each other's reputation; not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others; to participate in each other's joys and with tender sympathy, bear one another's burdens and sorrows. What tasks do we assume as the people of God? Congregation: To cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Savior in the eighteenth chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay; And through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, Who hath called us out of the darkness into His marvelous light; What should we do if we leave this community? Congregation: We moreover engage, that when we remove from this place, we will as soon as possible, unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's Word. What benediction concludes our covenant? Congregation: May the God of peace who brought again from the dead, the great shepherd of the sheep with the blood of an eternal covenant even our Lord Jesus, make us perfect in every good thing to do God's will, working in us that which is well pleasing in God's sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever, AMEN. NFBCT Female Usher Ministry Serving Sister Betty Bowser, Ministry Leader Women s Day Choir and Brother Robert C. Hailes, Jr., Minister of Music Brother Ernest E. Davis Brother Ernest E. Davis has been a part of this community since 1957 and a member of New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville) family for 30 plus years. Brother Davis is known in the neighborhood and among his church family as Uncl. On September 17th of this year with God s blessing, Brother Davis is looking forward to celebrating his 84th Birthday. Brother Davis is a widower and was married to the late Doris Jean Davis for 27 years (married by Rev. Dr. T. Melvin Steele at his home). He is the father of one daughter and two grandchildren. Brother Davis was employed with Planters and also worked for Haynes Furniture Company laying wall-to-wall carpet. He is retired now and enjoys spending his time relaxing at home, sitting on his porch, taking it easy and talking with the neighbors. From the day he became a member of this church family, Brother Davis served diligently with the Male Usher Ministry and the Combined Usher Ministry until his health prevented him from doing so. He does not have a favorite scripture; he loves them all. His favorite Christian song is I Can t Even Walk (Without You Holding My Hand). What does Brother Ernest E. Davis love about New First Baptist Church (Taylorsville): Everything He enjoys the preaching, the singing of the choir and the opportunity to worship and fellowship together. Thank you to Brother Davis for his 30 years of faithfully serving with his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ as a Doorkeeper in the house of the Lord, standing steadfast on his post. May he continue to be bless by God s grace and mercy for many years to come. Isaiah 46:4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. Congratulations to our Senior in the Spotlight, Brother Ernest E. Davis, our love and appreciation goes out to you.
