Prayer Concerns Send prayers concerns to: office@pineforestumc.org or Call (850) 944-0170 David Platteter Jackie Davis Erin McClellan Cassie Griffin Glenda Dozier (Tim s mom) Bonnie Morris Jeri Shaffer John Emmert Shelba Pollic Cheryl Voight The Mission s Edition As we begin the Lenten season, Pine Forest will be focusing on the renewing of our Faith Promises to God and the missional opportunities of our church. Lent is the perfect time to reflect on the type of fasting that God has called us to do. It is a fast that shares God s love with those who are oppressed, poor, hungry, and shelter less. He entreats us to not turn away. Beginning Feb. 21st through March 13th, a Missions Minute during each service will share just what this type of fast looks like and how God is being glorified through you. As we rise to meet these amazing challenges be renewed and encouraged by God s amazing promise to each of us through the prophet Isaiah. Is not this the kind of fasting I have chosen: To loose the chains of injustice and untie the cords of the yoke, To set the oppressed free and break every yoke? Is it not to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter When you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and blood? Then your light will break forth like the dawn and your healing will quickly appear; Then your righteousness will go before you, and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the LORD will answer; You will cry for help, and he will say: Here I am. Additional Mission s Opportunities Daughters of the King a new women s fellowship/devotion group, will meet on the second Tuesday, February 9th at 6:30PM. We will meet at Kathy McBride s house, 4613 Pebble Creek Drive. All women ages 18-108 are welcome! Our congregation will be providing sweet treats to the Beulah Elementary School Staff on February 15th. The congregation is encouraged to drop off cookies, bar cookies, trail mix, sweet breads or candy in the kitchen on February 14th. Items need to be on disposable trays ready for delivery. Thank you, Missions Committee

The Pastor s Corner 2016 is fully underway and I am excited about everything that is going on at Pine Forest. God is moving and our church family is responding in amazing ways. In January several great things have started, our new online giving option is up and running. I am pleased to say that several people have starting using this service to give their tithes and offerings. I believe this will be a great tool in a digital age to help people respond faithfully and generously to God s mission. I would like to make one recommendation to those of you who are using online giving, although we accept credit and debit cards, using the check option (ACH) incurs significantly lower processing fees. Also this month we have started a new Sunday School class that starts after the 9:00am service in room 202. We have many different Sunday school classes available and I am sure that we can find a fit for you and your family. I encourage everyone to get involved in Sunday School and let the Word of God take deep root in our hearts. You may have noticed a change going on in the vestibule. The room behind the sound booth is in the process of becoming a hospitality room, where visitors and members alike will be greeted warmly and find all the information they need to connect at Pine Forest. This will be a great volunteer opportunity, so if you are looking for a way to take part, this could be for you. On February 6 th we will be hosting a children s basketball banquet to celebrate this year s program. Mat Taylor continues to outdo himself in this ministry. He has 110 children in this ministry and at the banquet we will have the opportunity to welcome and share the love of Jesus with them and their families. This is a great outreach opportunity and I encourage as many people as are able to volunteer to come out and be a smiling face, a warm handshake and a servant heart. Finally, I would like to mention an ongoing ministry that needs your help. Every Wednesday night we have a fellowship meal together and we break bread and talk and laugh around the tables before going on to all the other activities for the night. We are thankful to Jennifer Thorne and her kitchen crew for planning and preparing these meals for us. This is a valuable ministry to our church that uplifts and builds up our congregational family. Each month we ask for volunteers to help clean up after the meal so that those who prepare it are not also those who have to clean afterwards. This is important so that those who are serving us also have the opportunity to take part in Bible studies and other discipleship activities on Wednesday nights. Please consider signing up on the calendar to help in this great ministry and to make sure that we are serving those who serve us. I can t wait to see what February will hold for us as God continues to pour out His Spirit and open doors for ministry. By God s grace and power, together we will change our community, our city and our world. God Bless, Andy

From the Prayer Closet - Who are you believing God for? But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck and kissed him. Luke 15:20 How much love do you have for sinners? Think about it. All too often, we get saved and get our lives cleaned up a bit, and then we lose our compassion for those who are still lost. We look at those on the street corner and turn up our spiritual noses. But if we ever truly understood the heart of our Heavenly Father, we would never do that again. Jesus told a story that can give us a glimpse of the Father's heart. It is the story of the prodigal son. You have heard it many times, how the son rebelled and dishonored his father, and how the father, in spite of it all, received him home with joy when he repented. But there s one phrase in it we should draw our attention to. It says, But when the prodigal son was yet a great way off, his father saw him. That phrase gives such a moving glimpse of the heart of that loving father. It tells us that even before the boy had repented, even during those long days when he was up to his eyebrows in sin, that father was watching for him, longing for him to come home. Every morning he scanned the horizon, hoping to see the silhouette of his returning son. And the last thing every night, he would look again, straining his eyes in hope. His son was constantly on his mind, and his heart was always full of love for him. The kind of gutwrenching love that, on the day his son came home, drove his father to run to him and kiss him. That is the kind of heart our Heavenly Father has for those who are lost. It is the kind of heart he had for you while you were still wandering in the world. It is the kind of heart that embraced you with open arms even when you were still covered with the grime of sin. There is a whole world full of weary people out there who haven t yet found that embrace. They are more than just sinners, they are our potential brothers and sisters...lost ones in desperate need of a loving Heavenly Father. God forbid that we should ever turn up our noses at them. May He help us instead to start bringing them home!!!... From Faith to Faith, Kenneth Copeland Who are you believing God for? Keep believing, trusting and calling forth salvation to those who are lost! Our Prayer Card Ministry is going well. If you would like a card sent to your friend or loved one on the prayer chain, include an address with your prayer request or email to Jackie Davis jackiedavis6074@gmail.com. Your Prayer Committee, (Dave Johnson, Kathy McBride, Penny Hansen, Carolyn Garcia, Karen Hall, Jackie Davis, Janet Butler)

Survivors Registration Opening Ceremony Relay for Life April 30, 2016 11:15AM-12:00PM 12:00PM The opening ceremony brings everyone together for a high-energy event kickoff that celebrates the lives of those who have battled cancer and reminds us all that while we are winning this battle, fighting cancer is a year-round priority. Survivors Lap 12:15PM Cancer survivors take the first lap around the track. Cheered on my the other participants and the sound of upbeat music, the Survivors Lap lets all cancer survivors at the event celebrate their victory over cancer. Caregivers Lap 12:15PM During the Caregivers Lap, anyone who ever cared for someone with cancer walks a special lap so they can be honored. Caregivers can walk this lap with the person they helped if they are also present. Survivors Lunch & Program Survivors Bingo Luminaria Ceremony 12:30-1:30PM 1:30PM 7:45PM At the candlelight Luminaria Ceremony we remember loved ones lost to cancer, support people who currently have cancer, and honor people who fought cancer in the past. It s a powerful part of the event because it provides an opportunity for people to work through grief and find hope. Closing Ceremony 8:15PM The Closing Ceremony celebrates what we all just accomplished together. It s also a time to remember the lives of those lost, and to commit to continuing the fight against this disease over the next year. The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement symbolizes hope and our shared goal to end a disease that threatens the lives of so many people we love. If cancer has touched your life, participating in a Relay For Life event is a way to take action and help finish the fight. This is your opportunity to honor cancer survivors, remember those you have lost, and raise funds and awareness to fight back and help end cancer forever.
