W"%&'"! K(!" H%%) W"%&'"! *) at Kirk in the Hills! We are glad to have you with us today for worship. If this is your first visit to the Kirk welcome! Please introduce yourself to a pastor after worship. P"!) concerned about children becoming restless in the service are invited to worship in Cedarholm Chapel where there are crib- and babychair stands, and the service is relayed on a TV monitor. A-! T ) S"0&" Today is the celebration of the Epiphany, the day in the church year when we remember the wise men who came to worship the Christ Child. Epiphany means manifestation or striking appearance. The adoration of the wise men represents the coming of the whole world to worship the Christ Child. We will also catch glimpses of Christ s identity at his baptism and at the wedding in Cana in upcoming Sundays. We celebrate communion this morning, giving thanks for the gift of Christ in our lives for sharing in his life, and for being sent out into the world share in his love for all. T" %%*1 " invites us to prepare our hearts for worship and our lives for faithful living: Radiant God, light for all people and light for all places, by the guidance of a star you led the wise men to worship the Christ Child. By the light of faith, lead us to worship you in peace and love, and guide us in your way. In the name of Christ, the light of the world, we pray. Amen. A!"' V C'' H') T"W!) Brightest and Best of the Sons of the Morning Brightest and best of the sons of the morning, Dawn on our darkness and lend us thine aid; Star of the east, the horizon adorning, Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid. Cold on his cradle the dewdrops are shining; Low lies his head with the beasts of the stall; Angels adore him in slumber reclining, Maker and Monarch and Saviour of all. Say, shall we yield him in costly devotion, Odours of Edom, and offerings divine, Gems of the mountain, and pearls of the ocean, Myrrh from the forest, or gold from the mine? Vainly we offer each ample oblation, Vainly with gifts would his favour secure: Richer by far is the heart s adoration, Dearer to God are the prayers of the poor. Brightest and best of the sons of the morning, Dawn on our darkness and lend us thine aid; Star of the east, the horizon adorning, Guide where our infant Redeemer is laid. Malcolm Archer Saw You Never, in the Twilight Saw you never, in the twilight, When the sun had left the skies, Up in heaven the clear stars shining Through the gloom, like silver eyes? So of old the wise men, watching, Saw a li8le stranger star, And they knew the King was given, And they followed it from far. The Only Son from Heaven The only Son from heaven, Foretold by ancient seers, By God the Father given, In human form appears No sphere His light confining, No star so brightly shining As He, our Morning Star. Harold Friedell Know ye not that lowly baby Was the bright and morning Star? He who came to light the Gentiles, And the darkened isles afar? And we, too, may seek his cradle; There our hearts best treasures bring; Love, and faith, and true devotion For our Saviour, God, and King seaing by Johann Sebastian Bach O time of God appointed, O bright and glorious morn! He comes, the King anointed, The Christ, the Virgin-born. Grim death to vanquish for us, To open heaven before us And bring us life again. 6
