Pfafftown Baptist Church is on mission to serve God by sharing joyful life and displaying love with our greater community. Pfafftown Baptist Church June 2015 Endless Summer, The Sequel! In my experience with movies (which like all of us is light years less than David!) sequels are the absolute worst. Jaws 2 was a nightmare, with or without a shark. Grease 2 was slick mess, with none of the life of the original. The Sting II was a robbery story all right, but only of the customer. Blues Brothers 2000 gave me the blues, but not for any quality. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom was doomed from the start. Yet for financial reasons movie makers often give in to the siren s call to make a sequel of a great initial movie. Jaws was great, as was Grease (to a fanatical following), and the Sting, and Blues Brothers, and the original Indiana Jones. It s easy to see why the powers that be were confident a II would be as good as the I, but oh how wrong they were. So why am I surrendering to the siren to promote Endless Summer, the Sequel? Do I know something smarter people don t? Do I have an inside track on better ideas? No. I simply believe that last summer was so excellent we can nuance it this year and have another incredible summer experience. I believe we can catch a wave again! What is in store for this summer sequel? Many, many great things. To begin, Larke has a busy summer planned for children and youth. In addition to on-going discipleship activities the children and youth will also experience Camps Passport and Caswell. Camp weeks are highlights for children and youth faith development. Additionally, fun events, food events and fellowship events are planned to make the summer special for all children and youth who participate. It s exciting! David is also planning experiences for us to ride a wave of worship through music. You already know of his invitation to share your favorite hymn or praise chorus to be planned in worship this summer. Also he has scheduled piano concert of classical music June 14 in the evening, which we will follow with an ice cream social fellowship. This is must see talent, so plan to be here. And he is digging deep to find a gospel group to visit us in August, so stay tuned. (Continued on page 2)

Summer... (continued from page 1) And much is being planned again for adults this summer. We will again have color days; on June 28 we will dress for worship in tropical or beach colors, and on July 5 we ask everyone to be in red, white or blue. We will again have an adult VBS in July, with three days of faith, fun and food. On July 15 we will venture to Daniel Boone Inn for a fattening lunch, and on June 12 we will have a 12 hour prayer marathon. And if I can get enough interest we will have a longer term book study, so let me know if you are interested. Finally, this summer the worship theme will be Heart Health and we will dress casually, worship faithfully, fellowship sweetly, and love, love, love. I m so excited again I can hardly contain myself! I m sure this sequel will be the excellent exception. Commit to make it a success with your time, attendance and support. I ve had my say; what have you to say? Reach out to me by any way and I d love to hear what s on your mind. pbcpastor@windstream.net Thank you to everyone who gave goodies and money to our college student care packages. The students greatly appreciate your thoughtfulness and prayers. ~The College and Career Committee Thank you, Pastor Thomas, for planning and organizing our trip to the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte on April 29th. For most of us, this was our first opportunity to tour The Library. We enjoyed the fellowship and learned many interesting facts about the life of Billy Graham and his family. Thank you Thomas, Ken, and John G. for driving. Thank you, PBC, for your support of our May 3rd Blood Drive. The 27 units collected helped save 81 lives! Our next Blood Drive is scheduled for Sunday, November 1, 2015. Regular Whole Blood donors are eligible to give after June 28th, making you eligible to give again on Nov. 1st. Double Red Cell donors are eligible to give after August 23rd making you ineligible to give Nov. 1st. I feel so blessed to be a part of a congregation who supports this ministry! ~Becky Parker, Night WMU Group Yvonne Holbrook also sent a thank you note to the church in appreciation for your prayers, food, cards and calls. She is thankful that she is healing nicely, although she still has a ways to go and her arm is still vey fragile. You all have made her journey a healing one and have helped keep her spirits up. The card is located on the bulletin board outside the office.

We're a few weeks away for the calendar to mark the official start, but it is here in spirit. For the summer, we have some exciting events coming from all the staff. Watch your bulletin for some special events. For starters, make sure you've let me know your favorite hymn and/or praise chorus. Did you not turn in a survey? In that case, please email me at pbcmusic@windstream.net with that info. I can't swear 100% that we'll sing every one of these songs in the summer, but we'll do our best, prioritizing any that receive multiple votes. Please give me only ONE hymn and ONLY one chorus. I know that's a hard decision, but you can do it! On Sunday, June 14 at 6:30pm, I'll be giving a piano recital of classical music, and we'll have an ice cream social afterward. Later on this summer, we are also hoping to have a worship arts celebration. For that, we need everyone to reveal your secrets if you do visual art and want to devote on it, if you dance, if you like to act, if you sing, or if you play. There may be another event or two that's all about music. Just keep checking the opportunities for things coming up. Speaking of opportunities: June 3 will be our final choir rehearsal before September. However, the choir is still meeting at 10:10 downstairs to review an easy or familiar piece on most Sundays. If you'd love to join us, come on down to the choir room any Sunday. There's no obligation to come down except the Sundays where you feel the calling to sing with us, and we'd love to add your voice to ours.. In Christ, David Annual Golf Tournament Everyone is invited to participate in the upcoming Golf Tournament on Sat., June 6 @ 10:30am at Pudding Ridge. For more info, please see Denny Franklin.

The Night WMU Group will hold it s last meeting on Monday, June 8 at 6:30 at Village Tavern on Hanes Mall Blvd. Meet at the church at 6:00, if you wish to carpool. The Day WMU Group will meet on Tuesday, June 9 @ 9:30am in the Fellowship Hall. The Baptist Men will have their monthly breakfast on Saturday, June 6 @ 8:00am in the Fellowship Hall. Student Ministries Surge: a sudden powerful forward or upward movement, especially by a crowd (or by a natural force such as the waves or tide). Last summer the youth and children of PBC participated in summer camps, faith adventures, and fun activities galore! It certainly was a surge in energy. Summer Surge II brings an opportunity to grow further in faith and reach out to neighbors. June, July, and August will see planned activities divided into three categories for both youth and children: Fun, Faith, and Missions. The majority of the dates are still up in the air but permanent dates will be announced shortly! Children: Fun - 1) Cookout/Swim 2) WS Dash Game Faith 1) Passportkids! Camp Missions 1) Pick-up And Play 2) A Service Project Youth: Fun 1) Cookout 2) WS Dash Game Faith 1) Caswell Camp Missions 1) ReStore Volunteering 2) Habitat for Humanity Project Congratulations to our former Student Minister, Ashley Escoe, on her ordination into the gospel ministry by her church on Sunday, May 3, 2015.
