Pastor s Page Why Not For three weeks I have had the privilege of participating in the Pennsylvania Poor Peoples Campaign (PPC). While we were in the planning phase I envisioned this type of cause would draw large volumes of people considering our communities are plagued with large amount of poverty. Although I have had the privilege to meeting many different people from a variety of faith traditions, generations, professions and walks of life; there has not been record breaking numbers of people gathering at our state Capitol. Each week notice I ve found myself asking the question, Why not? Regional News 2018 Camp Schedule If you are interested in signing your youth up for camp, please visit the camp website www.laurelview.org Is it because people possess a bias of the word poor? Is it because people are ashamed of their own economic status? Is it because people are afraid to speak truth to power? Is it because people believe their presence will offer no significance to the movement? Or Is it because people think they don t know anyone who is poor? As I continued to ponder my question, I resolved people aren t concerned because they have never truly taken to heart these words of Christ, for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me. Then they also will answer, Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you? Then he will answer them, Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me. Matthew 25:42-45 Entering Grades Dates Conference II 11th, 12th, June 17-23 Register Conference I 9th, 10th June 24-30 Register Chi Rho 7th, 8th July 8-14 Register Junior 4th-6th July 15-21 Register Mini Camp 1st-3rd July 22-25 Register Aug 3-5 Register Young Adult Rev. D. Marie and some of the Youth from FCC will be helping out with the Junior Camp. Participating in the Pennsylvania Poor Peoples Campaign has affirmed for me several truths about poverty. The first being, poverty is not limited to a specific race, nationality, culture, or age. Secondly, poverty impacts us all; some impacts are direct and other are indirect. Last but definitely not least, being poor is not a sin, poverty is a sin! As Christians if we choose to ignore the needs of those who are impoverished, we are then also choosing to sin against Christ. Rev. Thad Allen, Dr. Sharon Watkins and Haddae Allen attended the Revival Rally of the Poor Peoples Campaign in Charleston, WV earlier this month. Pastor D. Marie 2
