30th Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The healing of Bartimaeus is a remarkable story and is a fulfillment of the prophecy of the OT. Bartimaeus, though blind, was able to recognize Jesus as the Messiah with his inner eyes. And his healing is the last miracle Jesus performs before his entry into Jerusalem right before his passion and death. In Jesus the OT prophecy is fulfilled, as you read in the first reading from the Prophet Jeremiah. God, through the Messiah, is delivering His people from exile, bringing them back from the ends of the earth, with the blind and lame in their midst. Jesus, as Bartimaeus proclaims, is the long awaited Son promised to David, upon his triumphant entry into Jerusalem. Bartimaeus is a symbol of his people, the captive Zion which we sing of in today s psalm. With his healing he reaps the joy of a new life in and through Christ. Though Bartimaeus was physically blind, his heart was open to the good news of Jesus and His divine life. May the Lord open our hearts, eyes, ears and lips to proclaim the goodness of Jesus. We are approaching the month of November, which is dedicated to praying for the souls in need of prayer. The feasts of All Saints and All Souls both tell the character of the Church: the Church Triumphant and the Church Militant. Nothing unholy enters heaven. But at the same time, the universal will of the Father to save us all and through the merits of Christ s suffering and death, souls are allowed to go through a period of purification. The dead are unable to help themselves, but our prayers and sacrifices, and the prayers of the saints would go a long way in this process of purification to be united with God. Let us dedicate this month of November to praying for all those who have gone ahead of us from our families and our parish family as a whole. It s a year since we made our Forward in Faith pledges, and I believe you have received the current status of your contribution by now. I appreciate and Thank you for your generosity and commitment to this parish. I would appreciate it if you can go ahead and make the contributions for the second year as soon as possible. We intend to start work as soon as we get the approval for our plans from the archdiocese. We want to get most of the work done in the financial year 2019-2020. Sincerely, Your brother in Christ, Fr. Francis J. Kalapurackal Administrator
