Dr. Kerrin Kirkpatrick THE GATHERING OPENING VOLUNTARIES Aria Ave Verum How Deep the Father's Love Paul Manz Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart arr: Mark Hayes/Marvin Gaspard GREETING, SHARING NEWS OF THE CHURCH ALIVE Welcome, members, friends & visitors please fill in the ritual of friendship pad, pass it to your neighbor, and then return it to its starting place. If you are new and would like more information, please indicate on the friendship pad and also stop at the hospitality desk in the narthex. PASSING OF THE PEACE OF CHRIST Pastor Kerrin CALL TO WORSHIP (Based on Colossians 3:12-15) As God s chosen ones, holy and beloved, we are to clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. We are called to bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, we are to forgive each other. Just as the Lord has forgiven us, so we also must forgive. Above all, we are to clothe ourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. Lord, let Your peace rule in our hearts! We indeed are called in the one body, and we are thankful! HYMN No. 600 Wonderful Words of Life OPENING PRAYER Lord, we admit that any change can be a scary thing. It s not that we are against change, for we know in our heads that change is happening all around us. But in our hearts, we fear being changed. Teach us to bring our fears to You in faith. Help us to look beyond those fears for Your unseen hand at work in our world. Show us the way to navigate the changes we may need to make in our own lives, and in the life of this church, so that we may bring glory to You and grow Your Kingdom in this place. We ask this in the name of our Risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen. SHARING OF JOYS, CONCERNS, & GOD SIGHTINGS PASTORAL PRAYER

And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. The pastor gives thanks, remembering God s acts of salvation, and concludes: And so, with your people on earth and all the company of heaven, We praise your name and join their unending hymn: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might. Heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. The pastor continues and the institution of the Lord s Supper is recalled. The pastor concludes: And so, in remembrance of these your mighty acts in Jesus Christ, We offer ourselves in praise and thanksgiving as a holy and living sacrifice, in union with Christ s offering for us, as we proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. The pastor invokes the present work of the Holy Spirit and concludes: All honor and glory is yours, Almighty God, now and forever. Amen! Lenten Study For Lent this year, we will be offering an all church study. This is an opportunity for any small group to join in studying the book Final Words by Adam Hamilton. We invite small groups to still meet during the regular times and regular location, but in having multiple groups study the same material we can discover greater unity in the church and a deeper understanding of our faith. This is also a great time for individuals to join a small group or to read the material themselves. We will also have a sermon series based off of the book during Lent. DO YOU LIVE IN NORTHCREST, GREENHILLS OR NORTHRIDGE VILLAGE? We are in the process of coordinating facilitators to lead our all church Lenten Study, Final Words at the Cross at these locations. If you would like to participate in a small study group, please contact Pastor Nikki. With Sincere Thanks On behalf of my family I would like to thank all those who expressed their love and concern to us during the time Rita began her fight with cancer, her time in the care center and later following her passing. Your prayers, gifts of memorials, food, and hugs were of great help through this difficult time. It was brought home to me again how important it is to be surrounded by a loving family and a loving church family. A special thanks to pastors Kerrin and Nikki for their pastoral care and to pastor Kerrin for her leadership in a wonderful memorial service. Thanks again. Peace, Larry Vallery FAMILY FITNESS FUN The Isaiah 40 Wellness Ministry invites ALL of you to experience FUN AND FITNESS the week of Spring Break! Report from Ames Ecumenical Housing Inc. (AEH) On February 19, Ecumenical Housing board met at Stonehaven apartments at 421 Stonehaven Dr. in Ames. AEH is waiting to hear back from HUD in regard to the appeal based on compliance issues. All present HUD forms and paperwork is up to date at this time. Presently there are 13 vacant apartments at both locations, but there are two move ins slated for March, two applicants being interviewed who want to move into Stonehaven ASAP and two applications who would like to move in the Spring. There are three move outs slated for the coming weeks. There are several individuals on the waiting list who are working on paperwork which can be reviewed once it is complete. Both Sharon and Emily met with the tenant Activity Board to plan several future socials and other activities. Activities such as Friday Morning Coffee, Foot Care Clinics and Daily Bingo are going well and are well attended at both locations. A new Tai Chi group is now meeting at Keystone and there is a new partnership with Stevens Memorial Chapel. There is a new snow removal policy being implemented at both locations. Windows have been replaced in several of the apartments. Maintenance is presently waiting for one more bid before being able to start the updates on the out of date security system. Submitted by Steve J. Hanlin, Board representative for First United Methodist Church Thank you for the food. There was 120 pounds of food delivered to MICA, including 52 cans of fruit. This is twice as much as we sent for the whole month of January. MICA serves over 300 families a month. The second half of the month is always very busy, as food stamps come at the beginning of each month and are running short at the end of the month. There are so many worthwhile causes, and I know choices have to be made which ones to support. I appreciate that MICA is one of them for many of you. The carts are empty again. (:- ) Love in Christ, Connie Tilroe

First United Methodist Church Affirmation of Welcome As a community of the people of God, we are called to minister to all people of the world, knowing that the world is often an unloving place of alienation and brokenness. Christ calls us to reconciliation and wholeness, as we are challenged by the Gospel to be agents of healing within our society. We stand in affirmation with the apostle Paul that in Christ "there is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female." Christ has made us one. We acknowledge that this reconciliation encompasses all within the community of faith who exhibit any and all differences in the human condition including, but not limited to: race, gender, ethnicity, age, culture, physical and mental ability, educational level, economic status, personality, marital status, sexual orientation and gender identity in response to the often hostile social climate with respect to diversity within our society and the resulting feelings of alienation from the Church, we wish to make known our caring and concern. It is for this purpose that we affirm the following: all persons share the sacred worth that comes from being unique individuals created by God; all persons are welcome within the membership of this congregation upon making affirmation of faith; and that as members of this congregation, all persons are invited and encouraged to share in the sacramental and general life of this congregation.
