EYES ON PJP WEEKLY NEWSLETTER A message from our President/Principal: Miracles come in moments. Be ready and willing. A young monk once told his teacher that he prayed as often as he could so that he could find God. His teacher laughed and said, you can no more find God than you can make the sun rise. The young monk then asked, Then teacher, why do we pray? The teacher said, So that we will be awake when the sun rises. Do you have trouble seeing God in each moment of your life? Are you troubled by personal and world events? Are there times when you do not see the meaning in the activity and events around you? I must admit, sometimes I do. Sometimes I fall asleep and I fail to see the miracles in the moments of my life. The only way I know how to be ready and willing to see the miracles in the moments of my life is to surrender to God in prayer. The world without God gives us lots of ways to distract ourselves from troubles, some of them are destructive and dangerous. There are many ways to create moments of prayer that give you the opportunity to surrender to God. Plan moments of silence with God at home, at work, or in a church, even if it is only 10 or 20 minutes. Use your drive time for meditating on the Rosary or praying with your favorite Christian music. Meditate on the consecration of the Eucharist at Mass. The key is to find moments to surrender your world without God so that you can awaken to God within and all around you, miracle moments. A person s rightful due is to be treated as an object of love, not as an object of use. - St. John Paul II - Today our Church celebrates the memorial of St. Vincent DePaul. As a priest, he dedicated his life to the poor and all those in need. He understood severing the poor as miracle moments. Unfortunately, the world without God assumes the poor and some of those in need are useless objects, instead of objects of love to which the Gospel of Jesus calls us. Serving the poor awakened St. Vincent to his relationship with God. This Sunday s Gospel reminds us that our service is our way to give honor to God, not to our selves. True service increases the presence of Jesus in our community and decreases the presence of selfinterest and personal agendas. St. Vincent DePaul created a greater presence of God in the world that caused many to follow in his footsteps. Friday night, before the football game, Pope John Paul II High School will celebrate those who have given of themselves in military service or as first responders. In their service, they Weekly Notables OLL Shadow Day at PJP 9/27 Chick-Fil-A Dinner Night 9/27 from 5 til 9 pm *Dine in or drive-thru, but mention PJP upon ordering. See flyer. Page 2 Senior, Mark Tonglet named Commended Student in the NMSP Principal Triche announced on Thursday, Sept. 20th that senior, Mark Tonglet has been named a Commended Student in the 2019 National Merit Scholarship Program. About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2019 competition for National Merit, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of the more than 1.6 million students who entered the 2019 competition. The young men and women being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success, commented NMSC spokesperson. These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key role their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We wish to share some correspondence recently received by out athletic department with everyone.. Hi Mr. Dieudonne: I just wanted to send you a quick note. I was the official on the PJP II sideline at Fridays football game against STA. It was one of the most pleasant nights of Friday football for me during the 14 years I have been officiating. A number of the players introduced themselves to me before the game and chatted with me during time outs. I always enjoy an open dialect with the players and coaches. The coaching staff was very professional, personable and courteous - in particularly Mr. Cryer. I can certainly envision Coach Cryer and his team going deep into the playoffs in the near future. Sincerely, Derek Ransome Parents Only: Our next JP Parent Club Social will be held on October 3rd at 6:30 pm in our Cafeteria. This month s theme will reflect an Oktoberfest celebration, complete with beer tastings. Please join us and remember to submit your Box Tops collections that evening to gain a chance at our extra entry into the end-ofyear tuition credit raffle. A reminder that this year s homecoming dance is semiformal. Dresses MUST BE knee length (this includes guests). This detail is a revision to what was originally stated in our student handbook.
