Page 2 TUESDAY SEPTEMBER 13, 2011 GLORIA DEI COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES MEETING CALLED TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm with council vice president Doug Riddell presiding in place of absent David Adams. Present: Rev David Trexler, Douglas Riddell, Michael Minogue, Barry Fry, Lauri Novak, Eric Socin, Sandy Trexler, Randy Vates, Deborah Thinnes, Pam Daniels, and Don Heintzman. Absent: David Adams, Tom Schiller, Elaine VonAlmen, and Donora Gard. Prayer and Devotions led by Deborah Thinnes. DEVOTIONS CARING AND SHARING A Thank You will be sent to the Glenns by Sandy Trexler for their work in heading the Scare Crow committee. It is hoped that this event may still happen next year. REVIEW OF MINUTES The minutes were reviewed and corrected. Motion was made and seconded to accept minutes as amended. Motion passed with voice vote. TREASURER S REPORT The Treasurers report was presented to council by Pam Daniels. The report was reviewed, discussed, approved by voice vote and archived with these minutes. OLD BUSINESS NEW MEMBER / VISITORS PACKET Michael Minogue is waiting on delivery of 2012 calendars and large envelopes for packet. Some preparations have been made in a document shedding light on our organizational structure listing all committees, groups and social functions including fund raising. Also a simple document declaring what we teach and believe. And lastly for the packet it is hoped to have a new membership and friends directory for our members and friends packet. OLD BUSINESS SEARCH FOR COUCIL MEMBERS We have four names for consideration and they have all been contacted and agreed to be considered as candidates. COMMITTEE REPORTS - FINANCE The finance committee report from Sept 8 was presented by Pam Daniels. It was reviewed and accepted by the congregation council and is archived for the records with these minutes. It is noted that the Finance Committee is planning to distribute giving statements to our members for the third quarter. COMMITTEE REPORTS - GRACE NOTES - PRAYER MINISTRY - EUCHARISTIC MINISTRY All three of these reports were subject to review and discussion by the congregation council and are also archived for the records with these minutes. COMMITTEE REPORTS - BEREAVEMENT An oral report was presented by Sandy Trexler on behalf of the Bereavement Committee. Memorial funds given in the name of John Kocian at the request of the bereaved are being disbursed to buy a communion set consisting of a Chalice, Patton and Carafe. Memorial funds given in the name of William Horton at the request of the bereaved are being disbursed to buy a Season of Pentecost Banner. COMMITTEE REPORTS - WITNESS An oral report was presented by Sandy Trexler on behalf of the Witness Committee. Thirty-one cards were sent to members we have missed. COMMITTEE REPORTS - PROPERTY The small refrigerator in the Sacristy was replaced. Cost of bench to be installed by Town of Highland still under investigation. No written report was submitted. PASTORS REPORT The pastor s report was reviewed by council. It is archived for the records with these minutes. MEETING ADJOURNED With no other business to discuss, motion and second to adjourn was entertained by the chair. Motion in question called for by the chair with voice vote passed unanimously. Pastor's Report to Council September 13,2011 Presided at Sunday worship Presided at Saturday worship Presided at Funeral for Joyce Popka Presided at Funeral for Anne Henning Presided at Funeral for Nancy Riddell Prayed for the church, the world, and individuals daily Attended Finance meeting Met with couple for wedding Met with two couples for counseling Made 2 Nursing Home visits Made 5 Hospital Visits Fellowship with various Saints and Sinners GRACE NOTES We continue to meet every Wednesday preparing for the Fall Bazaar, November 5,2012. On June 2, we planted the church garden. The pickles we planted resulted in 27 pints of Bread & Butter Pickles and 15 pints of Dill Sandwich Pickles. We've been harvesting tomatoes for Bruschetta and Salsa. We have 12 different varieties of jam, over 275 jars! We've been adding a few new items such as a BBQ Sauce. We are not lacking in ideas, just time!!! Church members have donated their time, jars, canning supplies, produce and cash. Eric has been faithful in printing all the labels for the jars. We have a great time getting together! PRAYER MINISTRY The Prayer Ministry meets every third Thursday of the month. Eight gather for a morning of prayer. Carole Fozkos sends out the prayer letter to the five families from the congregation each month. We encourage church members to pray for those families listed in the bulletin. We also collect the prayer request from the prayer box in the narthex. We continue to make & give prayer shawls. This month a prayer shawl was given to Linda dark. We lift up our Pastor, Council and those in leadership in prayer. Gloria Dei Lutheran Church Finance Committee Meeting September 8, 2011 In attendance: Pastor Trexler, Carole Fozkos, Pam Daniels, Carol Biesen, and Deanna Jahnke. 1. Treasurer's Report was reviewed and approved. 2. Balance in Memorial Fund was reviewed. Some purchases already in process for using those funds for family requests were discussed. Possible additional uses were presented for further consideration by family members. Tri Kappa money ($200) was to be reclassified as Building Rent in the General Fund. 3. Bereavement Fund purchased $200 in Strack's cards through Scrip to be used for funeral luncheons. 4. Balance of sign liability - $6,137 was noted. 5. Review of Scrip account is continuing. No unusual transactions noted at this time. Sale of Scrip cards before and after church services has been successful. Noted that any cash should be deposited on the last Sunday of the month, with inventory of cards to be given to Treasurer at the end of each month. 6. Giving Statements will be mailed to each envelope unit after the end of the 3rd quarter. Stewardship materials could also be included in the mailing. 7. Request will be made for new Committee members following the death of Dick Schwartz. Noted that Committee does not meet every month and starting in 2012 would be okay. 8. Organ notes will be called as funds are available at the November 1st interest payment. 9. Next meeting will be November 3rd to discuss the 2012 budget. Page 6
