Pastor Frank Gantt of Lemon, SD has accepted the call to Zion, Lawrenceville, GA. Mission Helper trip: Applications for the Mission Helper trip to Nepal this summer are due January 13. Commissioning: At an evening service at Messiah Lutheran in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, Pastor Todd Ohlmann was commissioned by CLC President Michael Eichstadt as our CLC Visiting Missionary. The service can be viewed online at Messiah's website, www.eauclairemessiah.com (click in the "Online Worship" button). With Missionary Ohlmann's acceptance of the Visiting Missionary call, he has resigned from his position on the CLC Board of Missions and as Chairman of that Board. President Eichstadt has appointed Pastor Rob Sauers to complete Pastor Ohlmann's term on the Board of Missions. Mr. Joel Krafft was elected as the Board of Missions Chairman. Please continue to pray for Missionary Ohlmann and his family, as well as for those who serve on our behalf on all the CLC boards, that the Lord's name may be glorified and His kingdom come! Closing prayer: P: Thank You, Lord God, for nourishing our souls on this journey of earthly life with the food of everlasting life in Your holy Word. Fortify us to leave here and engage the people in our lives with the love poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit. Use us to bring Your peace into the lives of those who need Your love; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Benediction P: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you peace. Prayer of the Church (Minute of silence for individual prayer and meditation) P: Lord God, when people are in conflict, are driven by hate, or are suffering under brutal rulers, assure them of Your love. Use us to bring word of Your compassion in Jesus, so that they may endure until You send relief. Lord, in Your mercy, P: Lord Jesus, we pray for all who face this day in sadness or grief, are meeting sudden crisis or are living with long-term trials. Restore joy to them through Your word of promise and through people who care about them. Lord, in Your mercy, P: Lord of life, we ask Your special care for Irmgard Quade, mother of Ted Quade, who is hospitalized for treatment of a broken hip. Lord, in her weakness be her strength. In uncertainty be her confidence. Bless her with Your presence and grant healing to her body according to Your will. Lord, in Your mercy, P: O Holy Spirit, work peace between nations, within our communities, and among families, that societies may be ordered for the good of all, and Your kingdom of grace may be extended without persecution. Lord, in Your mercy, P: Father in heaven, give patience to all who make and administer the laws of our land. Grant them willing ears and calm hearts to make decisions that will benefit all their citizens. Lord, in Your mercy, P: Gracious Lord, whose kindness knows no end, bring to repentance all who have turned from Your way. Lead them to Your Word that they may hear again the precious gospel of Your Son. Grant us the wisdom to know when to speak and what to say. Lord, in Your mercy, P: Enlivening Spirit, shine Your goodness through us who worship here, so that we may be seen as Jesus adopted brothers and sisters. Strengthen us to carry on His work at home, on the job, or in school to the glory of Your holy name. Grant safe travels to our young people returning to 7 4
Second lesson: Acts 10:34-38.Unlike us, God is wonderfully impartial. Jesus is the Savior of all. Then Peter opened his mouth and said: In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ He is Lord of all that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached: how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him. suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. THE BAPTISM CONNECTION I. Jesus identifies with sinners. II. The Father and Spirit identify with Jesus. III. We are identified as God s own. The Apostles Creed: I believe in God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy Christian Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. And John tried to prevent Him, saying, I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me? When He had been baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.
