Events St Giles Fair Because of our redecoration, our St Giles Fair operation is greatly reduced this year, with nothing on sale inside. We shall have our usual table outside though, so no clothes or bric-a-bric this time, but donations of food, books, CDs, DVDs and jewellery remain very welcome. Please bring these into church on Sunday 3 rd September or ring Nigel Speight on 075 216 50623. Please liaise with Anne Dalziel madal62@btinternet.com or 01865 558969 if you can make scones, biscuits, cakes, jams and chutneys. These are really welcome thank you. Ride & Stride The annual Ride & Stride in aid of Oxfordshire Historic Churches Trust takes place on Saturday 9 th September and is a great way to see some of the fascinating churches in and around Oxford. Half of all monies raised by our congregation will come straight back to St Mary Magdalen s. There is also plenty of opportunity to donate after the event! Please speak to Nigel Speight or any of the clergy for further details regarding signing up and/or sponsorship and thank you to those who have already done so. PCC The Parochial Church Council meets on Tuesday 20th September at 7.30pm in The Vicarage. Hymns of Praise On Saturday, 23 rd September at St Andrew s Church, Linton Road, Pam Rhodes will be talking about the stories of the writers behind some of our favourite Church hymns. There will also be the opportunity to sing with their choir, orchestra and organ. The idea is to bring new meaning and a growing of faith for all as we understand what lies behind the writing of these wonderful hymns. www.standrewsoxford.org/groups/286324/st_andrews_church/whats_on/musical_events/ Musical_Events.aspx

Harvest Festival We will keep Sunday 1 st October as our Harvest Festival, providing an annual opportunity to help two local charitable projects, the Gatehouse Drop-in Centre for the Homeless and the Community Emergency Foodbank. The Gatehouse is in particular need of produce to make sandwiches - peanut butter, honey, chocolate spread, jam (strawberry preferred), Marmite/Bovril, and Branston pickle, as well as tea, coffee and sugar. The Community Emergency Foodbank, for which we regularly collect, welcomes almost all kinds of tinned food, as well as tea, coffee, biscuits, cereal, rice and pasta. They ask that anything donated has a best before date at least six months on. Ideally, these gifts should be brought to church (rather than to Keble) during the week beforehand, but there will also be a collecting box for such items at the High Mass at Keble. Scripture on Saturday Our monthly Bible Study mornings continue on Saturday 23 rd September from 10.30am at 15 Beaumont Street. We shall be continuing our study of I Peter, and looking at I Peter 3.

Notices Restoration and Development As you will have seen from all the scaffolding, the building works continue to forge ahead. With the time pressure placed on the works by the weather, and the scaffolded church interior largely unsafe for visitors, we have decided to cancel the 12.15pm mass from Monday to Friday for the next few weeks at least, but it continues on Saturdays. Morning Prayer and the 6pm mass will continue as usual, preceded by Evening Prayer at 5.40pm. On the Monday and Tuesday of the St Giles Fair, there will be an early mass at 8.15am in place of Morning Prayer, and no other public service. When the Lady Chapel is back in use (later in September) we hope to return to celebrating two masses a day, in good time for the beginning of university term. Parents Group A new group for parents at any stage to meet to get to know each other, and reflect on parenting and faith in a supportive environment. We will meet fortnightly at 10 am, alternating Fridays and Saturdays. The first meeting will be on Saturday 16th September at North Lodge, Norham Gardens OX2 6QR. Children welcome. See Clare Gardom (clare.gardom@gmail.com) or Fr Peter for more details. Youth Worker Position Thrive is a local Christian youth work initiative working with young people in disadvantaged communities around Oxford. They are currently looking for a male Youth Worker to join their exciting and pioneering work with young people in Blackbird Leys. Please pass this on to anyone you think might be interested. For more details see www.thriveteams.org/jobs or please email thrive@innovista.org

Weddings Please pray for Sarah Ward and Fr Mark Clavier to be married in north Wales on Saturday 2 nd September. We wish them well in their new life, as Sarah begins work at the University of Bristol, and Mark takes up his position as Canon of Brecon Cathedral. Please also pray for Emma Worthington-Chapman, and Doug Wilkinson, who are to be married in the parish church of St Andrew s North Oxford, on Saturday 16 th September. Our clergy and choir will be conducting this wedding and we look forward to continuing to share Emma and Doug with St Andrew s (which is Doug s church, as St Mary Magdalen s is Emma s). Parish holiday in Rome We are planning a parish trip to Rome, for around a week, in September 2018.
