Newsletter march, 2017 Volume 21, Number 3 Pastor Steve Cole SUNDAY SCHOOL 9:30 WORSHIP SERVICE 10:30 From the Colemine As he walked by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon, who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea for they were fishermen. And he said to them, Follow me, and I will make you fish for people. Matthew 4:18,19 I remember growing up going to Sunday school we would sing a song that had the words, I will make you fishers of men. Today that is no longer politically correct so we say we fish for people. We liked the song because we would do the actions with the song, casting out and reeling in. Even though the disciples used nets when they went fishing we did the actions as if we were using rods and reels. We liked singing the song, but I am not sure we understood what we were really singing about. The only fishing method I knew was using a hook and a worm and that didn t seem too nice to try to hook people and reel them in. I don t know if I ever gave the song all that much thought anyway. But after all these years I still remember the song. There are lots of different ways to catch fish, using a net, a lure or bait. A net captures them and a lure and bait attracts them. We really don t try to capture people, but we can hopefully attract them to be part of God s family. It isn t by using a lure or bait, but by showing love and care for others.
