Becky Davis I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord: who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. Prayer for Illumination... Becky Davis Let us pray together. Lord, open our hearts and minds by the power of your Holy Spirit, that, as the Scriptures are read and your Word proclaimed, we may hear with joy what you say to us today. Amen Scripture... Becky Davis I called to the LORD out of my distress, and he answered me; out of the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice. 3 You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me; all your waves and your billows passed over me. 4 Then I said, I am driven away from your sight; how shall I look again upon your holy temple? 5 The waters closed in over me; the deep surrounded me; weeds were wrapped around my head 6 at the roots of the mountains. I went down to the land whose bars closed upon me forever; yet you brought up my life from the Pit, O LORD my God. As my life was ebbing away, I remembered the LORD; and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple. 8 Those who worship vain idols forsake their true loyalty. 9 But I with the voice of thanksgiving will sacrifice to you; what I have vowed I will pay. Deliverance belongs to the LORD! This is the Word o f God for the people o f God. Thanks be to God! Amen! Special Music... Listen to Our Hearts... Duet Sermon... Defying the Darkness... Albert Barnes, (1798-1870) Happiness is dependent on things which happen around me but joy flows on through the dark. D.L. Moody, (1837-1899) Grief s darkness fades in the sunlight of Thanksgiving. Billy Graham, (1918-2018) Look how a single candle can both defy and define the darkness. Anne Frank, (1929-1945) In what you call the dark, but which to me is golden. I see a God-made world, not a manmade world. Helen Keller, (1880-1968) 4
