As we journey to the manager bed this Advent season, we are reminded in the four weeks leading up to Jesus birthday, of the themes of the Advent season; Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace. We rejoice in the Good News that Jesus has come and is coming again from heaven to earth, as Immanuel, God With Us. No matter what is happening around us in the world or our current circumstances we all need yearly, and daily, reminders of God s unfailing love in the birth of Jesus. We need to be reminded that our Heavenly Father s love for us was so strong He desired to leave heaven and come to earth, where He could be with us; until He takes us to our eternal heavenly home. I pray this Christmas you receive this treasure in a new light. I pray through the stresses of finances, over extended schedules with late nights, and in the joy and chaos of gatherings with extended family, you will pause for prolonged moments in front of the Christmas lights. You will pause for a holy breathe of peace. You will listen to the Prince of Peace speak His Truth over you in the brief stillness, and let the Wonderful Counselor remind you of His great love. Immanuel came to be with you. Have a blessed Advent! Luke 2: 9-11, Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared among them. They were afraid, but the angel assured them. Don t be afraid! he said. I bring you Good News that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior- yes, the Messiah, The Lord, has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! This little one wanted to write about Jesus Christ so badly by herself. I know Jesus must be touched by her heartfelt try! She was challenging herself! This writer put sounds down in order making a longer word for any kindergartner. Many students are beginning to write sentences independently, and are required to apply known sight words in context. Students begin to design a large mural - an extended project. They will design it and create their own Christmas corner to replace the reading garden in class. Group projects that are child initiated and designed are high level. Their art has a purpose and a use in class too! Students are generally required to use sight words correctly in sentences to communicate their good ideas. Our little scholars are also working on spacing their words, starting with capital letters, and ending with punctuation too! It is so nice that we can be in a school that can celebrate Jesus in so many different ways. All Kindergarten students are working their way into Saxon 1 Math Facts - They love DOUBLES Ask about Doubles, Doubles, I can add Doubles It s no trouble for me to add Doubles! Students are beginning to also record their second set of Saxon phonograms 27-45 in dictation (after oral practice). Students practice guided reading, independent reading and research during centers.
First Students are applying academic vocabulary as they study a science and literacy integrated unit about animals in winter. Students easily recalled science words for classification exercises such as migrate, hibernate, and adapt. Later they had to identify animals from a text and classify them. Very interesting. Young students should be exposed to expository text frequently, and academic vocabulary words at about 2 years ahead to ease learning in later years. Second Grade Students work at just the right level in Saxon 3. They are challenged with their independent practice, but not frustrated by it. They are in their ZPD or Zone of Proximal Development.a just right zone identified by Vygotsky.

Important priority standards include the need for students today to learn to ask and answer questions in addition to simple retelling. 21 st Century Learning - Communication Skills Reading, Writing, Presenting. Fourth Grade Students challenge themselves by covering their keyboard to memorize home keys and advance keyboarding levels. Awesome. Once one child asked for a cover, several others did too! It is not rude, it is not self-serving, it is not easily angered or resentful. It is not glad about injustice, but rejoices in the truth.
Why do so many adults, from so many varied walks of life, say the same thing about praise? It backfires with a lot of kids. Their behavior actually gets worse after receiving it. What is Praise? According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, Praise means, to express a favorable judgment of: commend. Examples from daily life include: Super job! You are so bright. Two Types of Praise Spontaneous This type comes from sincere excitement over something a child has done. Most of the time, I encourage people to relax and allow this type to happen. Intentional This type is done by good-hearted people for the express purpose of shaping behavior. This type is the most likely to backfire. An Alternative: Notice and Describe Notice and describe the behavior without judging it. Examples: I noticed that you finished the assignment even though it was challenging. You did all of your chores without being reminded. How does that feel? I noticed that you kept your cool when those kids were teasing you. What was that like for you? I noticed that you spent a lot of time today helping your little brother. You completed nine out of ten correctly. I imagine that feels really good. SALT HOUR NEEDS: Hanging hooks in the back hall for outdoor clothes when coming into lunch from recess. ASAP please Storage Room needing Cleaned & Organized, Shelving Installed Assemble a Library Cart Concessions at Basketball Tournament sign up in office PTF Room Moms (PreK, 5th, 7-8 th) Email jillthornpac@yahoo.com Shovelers during the school day Lord, You have given us the stars as markers of days and seasons, and we thank You for bringing us to the beginning Advent. Keep us faithful as we move through its observances and celebrations. May we gather often to hear the proclamation of Your Son and receive the gifts You so freely bestow upon us. We do not know the time the Son of Man will come, that knowledge belongs only to You, O Lord. Keep us wakeful, watchful and ever ready for His arrival, so that we along with all Your faithful people may be gathered from the ends of the earth to the ends of heaven. Lord of all nations, as we await the full coming of Your promised Kingdom, be with all who make, administer and judge our laws. May they use the authority that You have given them wisely and according to Your will. Lord, in Your mercy, hear our prayer. LCMS Peace in Christ, Mrs. Roberts If praise seems to be making things worse with a child you know, experiment with these ideas. The underlying message sent to the child will be: I love you unconditionally
