LCVI Valentines Day Luncheon Happy New Year to you all! We have a new year ahead of us and working together, we can make it the best year it can be. Taking a few minutes to reflect on the past few months, the pace of activities did not slow. Working with students at the three local schools, our annual food drive was part of Make a difference day. Thank you Alberta and Laura and your hard-working committee. We continued to eye screen preschoolers and were able to provide glasses for a local student in need. Thank you Donna and Alberta for making this happen. We were asked to help decorate the haunted house at Excelsior. Thank you Kathy for organizing our volunteers. In November, we presented U.S. flags to each student at Discovery Bay Elementary School. Thank you Lila for coordinating this event, and a special thank you to new member Cindy for reading the flag story at the student assembly. We had a very successful toy drive: through the generosity of our members we filled the back of a pick-up with gifts. Thank you Marilyn for taking part on this project. And we designed, decorated, and marched in Discovery Bay s annual holiday parade, winning Best of Theme. Thank you Susan for all of your hard work. And what can I say about our annual Christmas lunch at the blind center...i ll share Executive Director Ed Schroth s words: All your club s efforts allowed our clients to have such a wonderful day and celebration, as they always do, when the Byron Delta Lions Club comes for this special holiday. Our clients had a full day an exercise session, an arts and craft project, music from the Delta Strummers, and a wonderful lunch. Here s what our Lions had to say about the day: Yesterday was one of the most meaningful and fun days I have had serving and loving on those less fortunate Sue Emmett. We enjoyed the spirit and the energy of the day with the people at the blind center. We would be pleased to return and give our time and talents some time in the future. Dorothy McKellar- Pinther. This was my first luncheon at the center and it was so rewarding to sit and visit with the clients and kind of get the idea too, how to see what they needed (or didn t need) in the way of help with the days events. Carol Luke. One lady mentioned to me yesterday that she hadn t been coming as frequently as before but always comes when she knows that we will be there. Leslie Hutchings. Thank you Lisa for organizing the food and bringing all the volunteers together. To all of our wonderful members, thank you for all that you do. Working together, we serve. President Ann
December 2012 page 3 Annual Christmas Toy Drive Lion Marilyn Senn reported our TOY DRIVE was a huge success, due to the generosity of our great members...we made it a real Christmas for over 75 children in addition to giving at least $400 in gift cards because of a secret amazing donor. About 8 Lions also donated their hours sorting and bagging up the gifts at the Brentwood warehouse. Our Food Drive Was a Success! Karen Randle from the Delta Christian Community Food Pantry came to our December general meeting to personally thank us for our donation. Our Lions and their families along with Excelsior teacher Kim Karr s students, collected more than 110 boxes of food, which we transported to St. Anne s Church in Lion Carolyn Gibb s horse trailer. Many thanks to Lion Alberta Stanley for her dedication to making sure this project is successful every year. President Ann presented Karen with a gift of our cookbook!
