THE BRIDGE Trinity Presbyterian Church 1400 Sheley Road Independence, MO 64052 816-252-5893 Fax # 252-5024 Rev. Elizabeth M. Strobel June, 2016 Volume MMXVI, No. 6 www.trinityofindependence.org trinitypresby@att.net "Diverse in Background, United in Faith" Dear Friends, One of the best parts of being a church is that we get to worship together. Most adults sit through worship services while being fairly still and quiet, but God made children wiggly and inquisitive. So that everyone in our church has a space that s comfortable, we ve created a Children s Worship Space toward the back of the sanctuary by the stained glass window. You are invited to use it for: Quiet activities, like the provided coloring books or puzzles. Engaging in faith development materials, such as Bible stories. Having a little extra room to spread out. Floor space to quietly play where most people won t be walking. Finding activities to take back to your pew (please return them after the service). Anyone is welcome to take advantage of this area, including youth and adults. Some of us thing better with a little change of scenery! We do ask that children have parental supervision. In addition to activities, you ll also notice that there are kid-sized versions of some of the stuff we have in the sanctuary a table, cross, font, communion set, pews, Bibles so that our youngest members can learn that the worship space is approachable (and still learn how to take care of and respect sanctuary items). The Time with Young Disciples this summer will take place mostly in this area so that we can, piece by piece, go through why we have what we have in the sanctuary. My prayer is that this will provide us with some learning and growth, as well as make our sanctuary a welcoming space for all of God s children. Blessings, Elizabeth

CHRISTIAN SYMBOL Apple Although Genesis 3 doesn t identify the forbidden fruit eaten by Adam and Eve, it has traditionally been thought of and portrayed as an apple. This may be because in Latin, apple and evil are the same word (malum). An apple, then, often represents humanity s fall into sin. When Christ is shown holding an apple, however, it symbolizes His conquest over sin and death. For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive (1Corinthians 15:22, NIV).
