Congregation: In our waiting, Lord, give us hope! Congregation: In our waiting, Lord, give us hope!

We Hear God s Word The Lesson 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 3 Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4 I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. 5 For in him you have been enriched in every way with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge 6 God thus confirming our testimony about Christ among you. 7 Therefore you do not lack any spiritual gift as you eagerly wait for our Lord Jesus Christ to be revealed. 8 He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 God is faithful, who has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. The Gospel Mark 13:24-37 24 But in those days, following that distress, the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; 25 the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken. 26 At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27 And he will send his angels and gather his elect from the four winds, from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens. 28 Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that it is near, right at the door. 30 Truly I tell you, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. 32 But about that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. 33 Be on guard! Be alert! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It s like a man going away: He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge, each with their assigned task, and tells the one at the door to keep watch. 35 Therefore keep watch because you do not know when the owner of the house will come back whether in the evening, or at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or at dawn. 36 If he comes suddenly, do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone: Watch! We sincerely desire that everyone present will feel welcome in the Lord s house. Please make a special effort to greet those around you in the spirit of Christian fellowship. The first candle lit on the Advent Wreath is called The Prophecy Candle. It opens up the period that anticipates Christmas and honors those who first spoke the promises of the coming Christ child.

The floral arrangement on the piano today is given by Terry & Jerry Greenfield in honor of their 50th wedding anniversary which was November 28. They also sponsored the radio broadcast today. Congratulations! Today following the worship service we need a few men to set up our sanctuary Christmas tree. At 11 A.M. we need a few other adults to help decorate it. Don t forget the coffee fellowship in the social hall following the worship service today. Senior Choir Cantata. The Senior Choir will present the cantata, "The First Noel -- Celebrating the Birthday of a King" by Russell Mauldin and Sue Smith, next Sunday, December 7, during the worship service at 9:30 A.M. This cantata contains narration, classic carols and favorite songs, as well as original works. Christmas Tea and Bazaar. We will be hosting a Christmas Tea and Bazaar on December 6 from 11 A.M. 2 P.M. Our menu includes a variety of soups/bread bowls, desserts (including Scandinavian goodies), drinks and a hot chocolate bar. We still have opportunities for you to help. We can use help with set-up, serving as host, serving, clean-up, dishwashing, etc. Men are welcome, too! If you would like to help with any of the above or provide desserts and/or bazaar items, please contact Jaynee Christian at 733.2710 or jlchristian@hotmail.com. For any of you that are able to attend, we will have a short meeting in the Cornerstone Room following worship today to go over any list minute details. Christmas Angel Gift Project. Anyone wishing to purchase a gift for a youth who is in need of a Christmas gift is invited to stop by the table in the narthex and take one of the paper gift tags listing a gift for a specific child. Follow the instructions found on both the front and back of the tag. Gifts must be returned to the church by Monday, December 8. Christmas Gift Ideas. The Senior Choir 115th Anniversary CD and our 115th Anniversary Cookbooks are available in the narthex before and after worship today. We encourage you to use them as Christmas gifts. They are also available to be purchased in the church office during the week. You can purchase them for $10 each! The Primary Children s Christmas Program will be held at the beginning of the worship service on Sunday, December 14. We will take the kids downstairs for a movie during the rest of the service and you can pick them up in their rooms following the church service. The Young Disciples choir (2nd-6th Grade) will be presenting their Christmas program, Christmas Joy, on Sunday, December 14 during the worship service. This musical focuses on the joy that came to earth when Jesus was born in Bethlehem. The songs are simple, yet fun for children. Familiar songs of the season, such as Joy to the World and Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee, are presented alongside newer songs, like I Will Sing Songs of Joy and When He Came. Please come hear the Young Disciples sing and share the message of the Christmas season December 14. We will be practicing today and December 7th during the Sunday school hour. We will also have a Saturday morning practice on December 13 from 9-10 A.M. in the church sanctuary. It is important that the children attend these practices over the next two weeks. Christmas Eve Services. Your talents are needed for our traditional Christmas Eve Candlelight Services. These are opportunities for worship and inspiration through word and music. If you would like to have a part, please call the church office by Monday, December 8 with the title of your music or reading. Wheelchair Pushers needed. Immanuel is responsible for providing wheelchair pushers at Bethany Manor for the Sunday worship service each Sunday during the month of December. The wheelchair pushers need to be at the Bethany Manor Chapel by 9:20 A.M. and will be done by 10:45 or 11 A.M. A signup sheet is posted on the narthex bulletin board. At least five people are needed each week. Volunteers are still needed for December 7 and 21. A New DVD series entitled "Simplify: Ten Practices to Unclutter Your Soul" began last Sunday in the Social Hall at 8:30 A.M. In this fourweek study, Bill Hybels shares his own story of the wake-up call that changed everything and the steps he took to simplify his life before it was too late. Join Bill to discover the power of simplicity in your schedule, work, finances, relationships, and soul. Attendance last Sunday: 305

With the Advent season upon us you might be beginning to put together your shopping list for Christmas. There are always a few people on many lists that are extremely hard to shop for. What if you could give gifts with extra meaning this year? Gifts that will change lives around the world? More and more people are rethinking the tradition of gift-giving by instead, giving gifts in honor of friends and loved ones. There are several catalogs on the shelf in the narthex from various organizations that allow you to give one or more animals to people in need around the world. Any questions, talk to the pastors.
