Committed to His Will, His Way, and His Word March 8, 2015 Our Vision Statement "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor." Luke 4:18-19 (NKJ) It is the vision of Mt. Olive to be a church that is intentional in its efforts to identify and meet the needs of broken, hurt and oppressed people in the greater Glen Allen area through the message and ministry of Jesus Christ. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. MOBC FAITH DEVELOPMENT!! HOW TO ACCEPT JESUS CHRIST The Lenten Season February 18 April 4, 2015 The Pulpit Attire is Purple Lent: The forty days are taken from the days of temptations and fasting Jesus spent in the wilderness. The forty days extend from Ash Wednesday to Easter Eve and contains six Sundays. Theme For This Quarter: THE SPIRIT COMES This quarter has three units tracing God s work through the Holy Spirit to empower disciples for the Christian faith. UNIT 1: THE PLEDGE OF GOD S PRESENCE This is a five lesson study of John s Gospel with a concluding lesson from Mark s Gospel. These studies focus on Jesus teaching about and promise of the Holy Spirit. 2 INTO YOUR HEART Perhaps while reading the announcements you realized you have never made a Christian commitment. Don t delay that decision! We encourage you to embrace God s love today and receive the salvation that only Jesus Christ gives. Here are five simple steps you can take to find assurance of salvation. 1. Recognize your need. The Bible tell us that all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. (Rom. 3:23) All of us are sinners, and we must admit our need for a Savior. March 15, 2015 2. Repent of your sins. Our sins create a wall that separates us from God. By confessing our sins and turning from them, you will find forgiveness. The Bible promises: If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). It may be difficult to maintain a direction in life when a mentor is lost. How do people find the resources to carry on when the strength and vision of someone close to them is no longer available? Jesus promised His disciples that the Holy Spirit would be as real a presence to them as His physical presence was while He lied with them on earth. 3. Believe in Jesus. God sent His only Son to die so that He could pay for all our sins. Put your faith in Him and believe in His power to save you. The Bible says, For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life (John 3:16). NEXT WEEK S LESSON: The Spirit of Truth John 16:4b-15 MONDAY: Where There is No Prophecy Proverbs 29:12-18 TUESDAY: The Lord Has Closed Your Eyes Isaiah 29:8-14 WEDNESDAY: Speak, for Your Servant is Listening 1 Samuel 3:1-10 THURSDAY: A Trustworthy Prophet of the Lord 1 Samuel 3:11-21 FRIDAY: I Commit My Spirit Psalm 31:1-8 SATURDAY: Worship in Spirit and Truth John 4:21-26 SUNDAY: The Spirit of Truth Will Guide You John 16:4b-15 Sermon Highlights: March 1, 2015 Title: You Do The Math Text: Matthew 18:21-35 Main Idea: This story is about making forgiveness a way of life. When you do the math: Points: 1) It s about responsibility. 2) It s about reflection. 3) It s about refinement. For the full message order a CD or DVD of the service from the Media Ministry. CDs $5.00; Double CDs $7.00; DVDs $10.00 4. Receive His salvation. God has given us a great gift in His Son, but we must receive His gift. Thank Him for loving and forgiving you, and ask Him to live in your heart. His promise to us is clear: But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12). 5. Confess your faith. The Bible assures us: If you confess with your mouth, Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved (Rom. 10:9). You have been born again and are now part of God s family. Tell some one else what Jesus has done in your life! Winter 2015 semester now in session. Class meets every Wednesday evening from 6:30 PM 8:00 PM in the Classroom #1. This quarter the study focuses on the book of Acts: the development of the early church, the life and missionary journey of Paul, and the geographical and social backgrounds. Instructor: Marilyn E. Coates

1. Age Targeted Teaching: Where else can your kids get Biblical instruction that's focused toward their developmental abilities? 2. Friends: In Sunday School, your child will build positive friendships with their peers by discovering God's Word together. 3. It's Fun: Sunday School is not Disney Land, but our teachers do work hard to teach the Bible in ways that are relevant and fun for kids. 4. Spiritual Mentors: A dedicated teacher can be a Christian role model who supports you and helps inspire the faith of your child. 5. Systematic Bible Learning: Our curriculum is designed to give a broad foundation, so children will understand how all the parts of Scripture point to Christ. 6. Praying Teachers: Our teachers consistently pray for your child's faith to grow. Coming to Sunday School gives another occasion for God to answer those requests. 7. Big Reward For a Small Investment: If you're already coming to church, just come a little earlier or stay a little later. 8. Send the Right Message: Making Sunday School a priority shows your kids that God's Word really does matter. 9. Adult Bible Fellowship: While the children enjoy their class, you can fellowship with other adults in your own Bible study group. 10. Proverbs 22:6 (NKJV): Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.
