MAN a/k/a SWEET BOY We will have a brief memorial and burial service for our beloved church cat, Mr. Man, a/k/a Sweet Boy or Schweet Boy, at 9:15am on Sunday, August 5, 2018, near the old oak tree across from the Memorial Garden. As most of you know, Mr. Man died peacefully on Sunday afternoon, June 17, surrounded by some of our clergy, staff, and parishioners. We are grateful for his good, long life and the joy he brought to so many who crossed our threshold at the office and the Thrift Shop. Be sure to read the long article in the August Communique.

THANK YOU!!! FOR YOUR GENEROSITY FOR OUR SCHOOL TEACHERS! Take a look this Sunday, August 5th, in the Parish Hall and see the baskets that are filled to the brim. All of their needs to start the school year for their classroom s have been met. Your generosity will help Sue Friedrichs, Elizabeth Geozos, Ann Post, and their students make the start of the 2018-2019 school year a little bit easier. Our Christ Church members are the best. AUGUST S MISSION OF MERCY: AUGUST 5, 2018 RECTOR S DISCRETIONARY FUND As with any outreach organization, to help those in need requires the generous donation of funds. The Rector s discretionary fund is no different. As a priest, people come to Ceci for help. She helps them in spiritual, caring ways, but sometimes the need is financial, whether it's food for a family or a light bill for an elderly person. Please support Ceci in her calling to help those who come to her, by giving to her discretionary fund. As always, donations are accepted year round. Summertime is a good time to give on behalf of those in need. Thank you for our generosity. JOIN THE RECTOR BY VOLUNTEERING AT NCM ON THURSDAY AFTERNOONS Beginning this Thursday, August 9, 2018, and every Thursday thereafter, join our rector, The Rev. Ceci Duke, in volunteering one (1) hour of your time to work at the Norcross Co-Operative Ministry, located at 2275 Mitchell Rd., Norcross, GA 30071. The NCM is closed to the public on Thursdays so you might be working in the Food Pantry, perhaps breaking down packages and working on an assembly line. If you can volunteer, please contact Beth Holland in the church office before noon on Monday, August 6, 2018. GODLY PLAY IN THE SUMMER! On the Sundays that we do not make sandwiches, we are having Godly Play during the education hour (9:15am 10:15am.). We are working our way through the parables, so if you miss a week, no worries! Just come when you can.

On August 12, during the Education Hour in the Parish Hall, we will be having our KICK OFF SUNDAY celebrating 40 years of Making Our Light Shine. You can make your game plan to help Christ Church s Light Shine even brighter. We will have a tailgate themed coffee hour during which you can: Come and See (and register for) some of the amazing Christian Ed offerings [New classes for adults! New curriculum for junior and senior high, including a path for confirmation for grades 9 and up! EFM and More!] Sign up to help make Our Light Shine with one (or more) of the fun events we have in our line-up [CCP reception, Church Picnic, Norcross Arts Splash, International Wine Tasting, Fall Clean Up]. No matter your interest or availability, you'll find something you can do to get off the sideline and get into the game and shine! Catch up everyone's summer adventures and travels. Get into the spirit -- represent your favorite sport or fall activity by wearing a favorite jersey or t-shirt. MEN S GROUP ANNUAL RETREAT The Men s Group annual retreat will take place on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at the lake house of Bo O Kelley. SignUp Genius will be sent out by August 3rd with all the details.

CCPs TO PRESENT SMOKE ON THE MOUNTAIN! The CCPs present our ninth annual summer show in honor of the 40th anniversary of Christ Church. Join the Christ Church Players on August 24/25th at 7:00pm as we present the smash-hit bluegrass musical Smoke on the Mountain! For two nights only, we will transform the CCE nave and Parish Hall into the sanctuary and Fellowship Hall of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, and YOU, the audience, are all members! The year is 1938. Your pastor, Reverend Mervin Oglethorpe (Brook Sizemore), has enlisted the Sanders Family Singers in an attempt to bring your little mountain church into the modern world. This is the Sanderses first performance after a five-year hiatus, and they just couldn t be more tickled to be with you, the good people of Mount Pleasant. Between rousing Gospel numbers that range from the sublime to the downright silly, each member of this quirky family will share his/her witness. Though the Sanderses try to present a perfect picture, one thing after another goes terribly awry and they uncover their true - and hilariously imperfect - natures. By the evening s end, the Sanders Family will endear themselves to us by revealing their weaknesses and allowing us to share in their triumphs. Join the Christ Church Players and the Sanders Family Singers on August 24/25 for gelatin salad, punch, pickles, and some newfangled old-time religion! And hey - bring some friends and let us show them how we do church! Tickets available on Sunday mornings, or through the church office. Contact Jenn Jordan (sopranojjordan@gmail.com) for info on group discounts. EfM REUNION If you have ever taken EfM anywhere, at any church, at any time, even if you never finished, we are planning a reunion for all those who have participated in the EfM Program. It will be a pot luck on Sunday, September 9, at 12:30pm - right after the 10:30am service. More details coming.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DONATIONS FOR SUNDAY FLOWERS How much do flowers cost each Sunday? It costs a minimum of $50 to purchase flowers for the altar each Sunday, which is the recommended donation. I would like to give flowers to honor a loved one, but I cannot afford that amount of money. Am I out of luck? No, we recognize that a gift of $50 may not be possible for everyone. If you want to dedicate flowers to someone, but are concerned about making a donation, please contact Beth Holland in the office so that a dedication for a lesser amount can be arranged. How far in advance must I make my donation? Please submit your donation at least one week prior to the date you would like to dedicate the flowers. This will give the church staff time to ensure your dedication is in the weekly bulletin. How do I make a donation and memorial? You may sign the chart in the narthex or call the church office. You may also place an envelope with a check in the Sunday offering plate at least one week in advance of your donation date. WEEKLY GRIEF SHARE GROUP TO MEET AT ST. EDWARD S EPISCOPAL CHURCH St. Edward s Episcopal Church will offer a weekly faith-based program entitled GriefShare on Tuesdays from 6:45pm-9:00pm beginning August 7 and continuing through November 6. GriefShare is a support group designed to show participants how to walk in a new path after the loss of a loved one. There is a small registration fee of $15. St. Edward s is located at 737 Moon Rd., Lawrenceville, GA 30046. For further questions regarding this class, please contact the Program Coordinator, Frances Hart at 770/963-6128 or e-mail to griefshare@stedwardsonline.org.
