May 20, 2012 2 Mission Statement: St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Christ-centered family of believers, celebrating Christ alive in our lives through the inspiration of the Gospel, church teachings and traditions and the Sacraments. We are sensitive to the spiritual and temporal needs of God s people, acknowledging their uniqueness and dignity and are dedicated to reaching out and serving them through prayer, liturgical celebrations and social ministries. Guided by the Holy Spirit and nourished by the Holy Eucharist, we welcome all people with, respect and compassion. We are vigilant in protecting the rights of the most vulnerable. In the tradition of our patron, St. Francis of Assisi, we put the good news of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ into action. May 20, 2012 3 The St. Francis Festival (carnival feast) is fast approaching and both staff and volunteers are planning and working to make it all happen smoothly. We still need volunteers in many areas. Please get your name to us and we ll be certain to find you the right spot! Please return your chance books to the rectory and be part of the $5,000 Grand Raffle at the festival. Now is the time to line up kids and grandkids, nieces and nephews and plan when to attend the carnival. We will have vendors at the big event this year and in this way provide more activity for adults while the kids are on rides or playing the games! It was heartening to see the large turn-out for the festival workers meeting it is a sign that this event is taking hold here at St. Francis and that it is becoming an integral part of parish life! Medjugorje Sr. Marcie will very briefly speak to us about Medjugorje its meaning and message in preparation for the pilgrimage. After each of the Masses, she will be available in the lower church to answer further questions. Here is an opportunity to learn about the blessings of this very special place even if you do not imagine yourself going at this time. Sr. Marcie has a special gift for presenting Medjugorje to our people. We will host two Information and Sharing Nights. Sr. Marcie will be present and many pilgrims from the past will be there to share experiences. The dates are May 23 rd & June 4 th (both at 7:30pm). Medjugorje has been determined by the Vatican authorities to be a place worthy of pilgrimage. Msgr. Pat s 50 th Anniversary of Priesthood Sunday, June 3 rd at 2:00pm Don t miss it! We are placing a special Sunday Mass (celebrated by Fr Pat) with a hot buffet lunch afterward in the lower church. Fr. Pat s family will be there also to celebrate. This promises to be a joyful occasion one you will want to be part of! Come and celebrate Mass with Fr. Pat and then share in our repast downstairs.

May 20, 2012 7 ST FRANCIS FESTIVAL TIME & TALENT BOOTH I am sure you are wondering, is this a singing or musical booth? That is not the type of talent this Booth is about! The Time & Talent Booth started last year at our Annual Festival to display the Handiwork Talent of our St. Francis Community. We had 22 donations last year and were able to raise funds through a Chinese Auction of Talent. We are asking you to contribute to this year s booth and show everyone your special individual Handiwork Talent! If you have a Hobby or a Special Handiwork Talent to donate, we would like your talent to be displayed and be part of our Festival. WOODWORKING ITEMS KNITTING OR CROCHET ITEMS~PAINTINGS CRAFTS ~SCRAP BOOKING~JEWELRY MAKING QUILTING~POTTERY~VEGTABLE BASKETS GIFT ITEMS~DRAWINGS Last year we had a Village of Bird Houses that was a big hit with everyone. We had a Treasure Chest filled with Wine & Cheese, Pictures both painted & hand stitched. We had handmade scarves, hats and Afghans. One person donate a huge basket of tools from Home Depot, another donated a bag full of goodies from Wild by Nature. We had special pillows donated by Chiropractors. Many Gift Certificates for special events & much more items. Talent takes many forms and we would like to see yours and display it for the community of St Francis to view. Everyone has so much fun going through the booth ~ looking at the displayed talents & placing their tickets in the bags to win. The last evening of the festival, when the prizes were drawn, many people knew the winners of their donations and it added to the enjoyment of the event. You could hear I know that person with great excitement! If you have the Time & the Talent, please make a donation of your special talent to the Booth making our Festival a unique community event. No other Festival has a Booth like this! No other Festival has our Talents!!! PLEASE BRING YOUR DONATIONS TO THE RECTORY What good is it, my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can that faith save him? If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well, but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2: 14-17 RESPECT LIFE NEWS Your wonderful donations have been helping our little baby boys and girls. What a special joy to visit their families and hold these precious babies as we pray thanking God for the precious gift of life, the safe delivery of their moms, and all you who help our little ones. Their moms are so grateful for the diapers, wipes, baby wash, formula, infant clothes, blankets and other layette items you so lovingly contribute through your great kindness. Praise God! Be sure to stop by our Baby Corner and visit the large image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. (You will notice a ribbon around the waist of Our Lady of Guadalupe. This black ribbon symbolizes, woman with child. ) As you look upon this beautiful image of Our Blessed Mother, please say a prayer for our precious babies, especially those who are in danger of abortion. Our precious babies especially need Huggies, and Pampers diapers sizes 4, 5, and 6, unscented wipes, unscented baby wash, and baby coupons. Always we thank Our Lord through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Francis for all you do for our St. Francis of Assisi Baby Corner families. Need assistance? Wish to join our RESPECT LIFE COMMITTEE? Please call our rectory at 631-757-7435. Intercessions for Life: May 20 th Seventh Sunday of Easter That all who are struggling to overcome addictions whether to alcohol, drugs, pornography or gambling may find healing, forgiveness, and the strength to break free; We pray to the Lord: Word of Life: Every great religious revival in America has led to an advance in civil rights from the Declaration of Independence and the Bill of Rights to the end of slavery and the pursuit of racial equality. But all this has been achieved in the face of established power structures strongly and often violently opposed to these rights. So this is a time for choosing choosing whether as Catholics we will stand together to keep open doors of religious liberty. If we do so, then we will make possible the next great awakening in America that will bring us closer to building that culture of life and civilization of love about which John Paul II so often spoke. ~Supreme Knight Carl A. Anderson, Address to the National Catholic Prayer Breakfast (April 19, 2012) USCCB The Life Center of Long Island at 631-243-2373. Call for help with a crisis pregnancy, healing after an abortion, or to donate baby equipment. The Life Center s Life Line is open 24 hours, 7 days a week at 631-243-0066. For information on a retreat weekend for men and women seeking healing after an abortion experience, call Frank Gariboldi at 516-523-0586 or e-mail fgariboldi@optonline.net Please continue to pray each day for our precious babies born and unborn and their parents!!! Pray the rosary for the conversion of America s heart to end abortion.
