Thoughts from the Pastor DISTRICT CONFERENCE The Butler District Conference will be held Sunday, May 7, 3 pm, at the Volant United Methodist Church. Refreshments and gathering is at 2:30 pm. Church officers are welcome to attend, to elect District leaders, and receive a word from our District Superintendent, Rev. Joel Garrett. THE SEASON OF EASTER We tend to forget that Easter is more than a one day event that ends Easter Sunday afternoon. In the church, we celebrate Easter as a season that lasts up until we celebrate Pentecost- the coming of the Holy Spirit upon the believers. Pentecost, this year is June 4 th. The prefix pente means 50. The Holy Spirit fell upon the followers of Jesus 50 days after his resurrection from the dead. The Easter season is a time to celebrate and share the wonderful news that, He is risen! The resurrection of Jesus demonstrates God s power over the grave and the opportunity for eternal life that comes through Christ. He is the door, the way to heaven. As Jesus rose from the dead by the power of God, all true believers will rise to eternal life at the last trumpet sound. However, new life is not just a future event. It is a present reality as we die to sin and are raised to new life by the power of the Holy Spirit. During the Easter season, we proclaim the risen Christ; we rejoice in God s victory over sin and death; we experience forgiveness and new life in Christ; and we share the Good News with others. May God grant you a blessed, Spirit-filled, and joyous Easter season. Pastor Dave.
SHOE DRIVE Fifth Annual Shoe Drive for EUMA and All God s Children Ministries How it works: Your old shoes can help those who are homeless or affected by a disability. Now through June 30, EUMA and All God s Children Ministries are holding our Fifth Annual Shoe Drive to benefit our missions. Gather your old, unwanted shoes (condition: gently-used) Rubber band pairs together, packaged 25 pairs per bag Bring them or send them to Annual Conference in Grove City (June 8 to 11) Through this shoe drive, we raise much needed funds for outreach ministries, shoes are kept out of landfills, and micro-enterprise ventures are supported in developing countries. Last year, our supporters helped to raise $13,605 for our two missions! NEWSLETTER DELIVERY PREFERENCE Quite a few members are receiving The Messenger in email form. If you prefer to receive it this way, please send your request to monacaumc@gmail.com and you will be added to the growing list. There are quite a few plusses: this is a time-efficient, eco-friendly, paperless way of getting the news and saves time and postage. Many people read their daily newspaper electronically. It saves on recycling and it won t get lost on your desk. You don t have to wait for the mail carrier, especially if you don t live in the area. The Messenger can still be picked up at the church. We will let you know each month when it will be available. May s copy will be ready on Sunday, April 23.
