Page 2 The Prefect s Post November 2018 Mission and Outreach Committee Updates Outreach is partnering with the Salvation Army to fill the shelves at their Thanksgiving Pantry. The project will gather non-perishable foods for needy families. (See the list of items below.) Many families are given turkeys for the holidays, but don't have a source for all the fixings that make a proper Thanksgiving dinner. That's where we come in. Your donations of Thanksgiving extras to The Salvation Army Food Pantry will make the holiday a happy family time for all. Look for the Collection Bin in the narthex. You can leave items there November 4, 11 and 18. THANKSGIVING PANTRY ITEMS Canned vegetables Cranberry sauce Pie filling Muffin mixes Croutons Stuffing Salad dressing Gravy Canned fried onions Nuts in the shell Instant mashed potatoes Instant sweet potatoes Canned nuts Mints Graham cracker crusts Cake mixes Boxed Desserts Jello Disposable Turkey Roasting Pans Coffee Talk in December! The Prefect s Post November 2018 Page 3 Mother Lily s Message Dear Friends, As we enter this highly contentious time of the mid-term elections, it is more important than ever to discern the wisdom of the Gospels; the wisdom of Jesus Christ. As the rhetoric begins to pull us apart, let the Gospel draw us back together; help us to find our commonalities; help us to discern what is really important in this world, at this time. I plan to study the candidates and the proposals long and hard before going to the polls. I plan to hold what I read up against the Gospel, before I vote. My source of information will come for the League of Women Voters, which seems about as impartial a source as I can find. Although I understand there is probably no source impartial enough, you all get to decide how, and if, you are going to engage in some process of your own. My hope for God s creation is that the discernment process for this election will find itself rich in Gospel understanding. How else are we to bring about the Kingdom of God? How else are we to participate with God in this mission? The church is the body of believers. The body of believers is sent out to make God s mission a reality. Are we doing our part? Are we proclaiming Jesus Christ? Are we living into the Gospel? There is no better time than now, to ask these difficult questions of ourselves, and then search for the answers that move us in that direction. Blessings to you, and to your family, Mother Lily+ about Advent and Christmas services will be in the December Newsletter.
