We deepen our love for Christ by seeking life-long faith formation, praying, celebrating the Sacraments and reaching out to others with works of mercy.

From the desk of Father David I am sure there are many occasions when we address a prayer to God; perhaps a simple prayer of praise but probably more often than not, by many people s admission, when we need help with something. There is nothing wrong with that, but it falls short. God does not want us to just throw up an occasional prayer just when we need him. No, God wants us to live in an ongoing relationship with him throughout the entire day! God is your best friend who walks with you every moment of every day. Often speak to him whether that be praise, petition, thanksgiving or adoration by simply lovingly gazing upon him in faith. In the Gospel Jesus tells us about the wicked judge who finally gives into this persistent woman out fear that she will strike him. Jesus then says, If this wicked Judge will hear the plea, how much more will a loving God Bless his sons and daughters who call out to him night and day! God give us the grace to call out night and day instead of just an occasional prayer here or there! I have heard this question often Father, when are we going to start a youth group? The answer is NOW!! This group will have students grades 9-12 from Blessed Sacrament and Saint Michael Parishes as the foundation but will be open to all youth in the city whether Catholic or not! We will be meeting in a dedicated youth room that is on the third floor of Angel House at Blessed Sacrament from 12:00 noon until 1:30pm once a month. The date for this first meeting is Sunday October 23 rd. We will begin with pizza and move into some sharing and music and prayer. Our youth need a support group of likeminded peers to share friendship and faith in order to live a Christian life in an ever increasing difficult world situation. If you are a youth in grades 9-12 and interested JUST show up hungry for pizza, hungry for Christian fellowship and hungry for God! The current name for the group is T-U-G which means TOGETHER UNDER GOD. The fall Meet and Greet event will be held for all new parishioners after the 9:00 and 11:00 Mass on October 30th. Western States Pride youth wrestling club is hosting our annual wrestler sign up Sunday, October 16 from 4 to 530 PM in the Bishop Heelan CYO building. While Western States is not officially part of the Bishop Heelan school system, the program has been the youth wrestling feeder program for Bishop Heelan High school wrestling since the mid-1980s. Western States has helped produce many successful Bishop Heelan wrestlers including past state champions and place winners and the core of successful wrestlers currently on the high school team. This program is open to boys from kindergarten to 8th grade. No previous wrestling experience is required. Our coaches will teach the boys the fundamentals of the great sport of wrestling. Beyond success on the mats, wrestling teaches boys and young men discipline, self-control, and the ability to push through other challenges when most would quit. These are skills that directly contribute to success in the classroom and in life.
