Habitat for Humanity is an organization that s been around for many years. When they started, the numbers of houses were small. There were volunteer experts, mostly retired contractors, who ran the site and gently (most of the time) gave us advice on how to build a house. Now it s a tremendous organization. The experts are paid contractors who know very well what they re doing and have been trained to work with people who have no building experience. They are building many houses world-wide. Currently, they are building 30 houses in Fremont for homeless vets. The build is now beginning the hammers and nails stage, but you never know what you will be asked to do. The people are great to work with, and it s for a tremendous cause. The future owners put in a minimum of 500 hours in sweat work to help, and Habitat for Humanity gets first dibs if they decide to sell in the future. Please come and help us build. The next build day for SFC is November 18, Saturday. My cell phone is (408) 781-4603. Email is phaley84@gmail.com TRUE WEALTH Measure wealth not by the things you have, but by the things you have for which you would not take money. For more information: Julie Alvarado or Grace Valdez (408) 272-5983 or (408) 453-0738 BEARING THE RIGHT KIND OF FRUIT Today s readings focus our attention on vineyards. Isaiah s song concerning his friend s vineyard begins with inspiring and poetic images of an idyllic vineyard where the choicest harvest is expected. Instead, the vineyard yields wild grapes, which causes the owner to abandon it. The psalmist cries out to God, asking that God once again take care of the vineyard, which is the house of Israel. The parable told in today s Gospel offers a stern warning that those who commit treachery in the hopes of attaining personal wealth will be put... to a wretched death (Matthew 21:41). Jesus warns his listeners not to act like the murderous tenants in the vineyard. Instead he exhorts them to produce the kind of fruit that will lead them to the kingdom of God. Copyright J. S.
