JUNE 11, 2017 We celebrate this weekend the Most Holy Trinity. For most of us, who attended Catholic School before the Second Vatican Council, we probably heard the explanation of the Holy Trinity as: it is a Mystery next topic! How do you begin to explain three Persons in one being who is God? When we hear the word person we automatically look around and can count the number of folks in the room with us at this time. Needless to say we are challenged to think of persons in an expanded way as we relate to our one God as Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Everything about our God is relational. How is it that our God relates to us? Jesus takes on flesh in the Incarnation and shows us the face of God in his humanity. He also is the one who helps us to understand and even teaches us to call God, Abba, or Father. And this loving God who is both Savior and Father to us desires so much to be with us that he shares the gift of their love, which is the Holy Spirit. We are invited this week to spend some time reflecting on how much our God, the creator of the universe, so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life. He created us not just for 5, 30, 70 or 100 years but for eternal life life that will never end. We so often live our lives believing and feeling as though we need to earn the love of significant people around us. It is very difficult to surrender our lives to a God who loves us, not because we are loveable in ourselves, but because our God, who created each and every one of us is Love and he cannot be unfaithful to his very nature. We take time to wrap our minds and our hearts around our God who first loves us and gives himself to us as Creator Father, Savior Son and life giving Spirit. This weekend we congratulate our own Deacon, Bro. Jonathan, as he receives the Sacrament of Holy Orders and has become a servant and shepherd as an ordained priest to God s people. We welcome his parents and his family as they join us for the celebration of his first Parish Mass as an ordained priest. I will be away for the next two weeks on vacation with my family. My family is getting together for my nephew s wedding in the Sacramento, CA area and we will spend some time being together as family in California. I will be back on June 24 th. While I am away Bro. Jonathan will celebrate the evening Mass on June 13 th & 14 th and Fr. Leon will be celebrating the other weekday and weekend Masses. As always you can call the office while I am away and Eileen will make sure that any needs that arise will be taken care of. June 11 Bro.
