LESSON 1 SKIT Principle: God s power, and the Trinity Bible Character: God Scripture Reference: Genesis 1, Hebrews 11:3 PERSONAL PREPARATION: As you read through Genesis 1, reflect on God s creation and the joy that went into the details and colors around you; think about the power of God as you view the details of everything He has created. How often do we speed through our days and weeks without worshipping God in response to living in His created world? As you prepare to teach your campers this lesson, keep in mind that we cannot fully understand the Trinity. Our acceptance and belief of our God is based on faith. We cannot comprehend our God. Spend some time this week praising God for the fact that He is so much bigger than anything we know or understand. Reflect on how amazing it is that we have the opportunity to trust and give up our life to a God that is good and is so much bigger than ourselves. Spend some time praying that your campers will not dwell on the confusion that sometimes comes with studying the Trinity, but that they will respond with a sense of amazement at the power and complexity of the one true God. BIG GROUP TIME - 35-40 minutes 1) Run-through/Prayer Run-through order of service (assigned parts, transitions, slides for music and skit, video if applicable, etc), assign door greeters, pray, mic check 2) Welcome Cabins Band member says, Welcome to Camp Grace! before intro song 3) Intro Song 4) Camp Competition Ape, Man, Lady 1

Have one camper from each cabin come up to the front. Pair up campers (If odd number, let one camper have a bye until the next round). Explain the game to the campers by showing them the different actions (APE has arms swinging while making an ape sound, MAN stands straight up with arms crossed, and LADY is in a curtsy stance.) and singing through the phrase: Ape beats the man, man beats the lady, lady beats the ape, you tie, you die, 1, 2, 3. Tell the pairs to stand back to back and then turn around immediately showing what they choose to be after the phrase is sung. Whoever wins stays in the game, whoever loses goes to sit down. Pair the winners up, and then continue until there is an overall winner who wins the camp banner for the week. 5) Worship Set Worship Connector Do you know one thing that is really cool about our God? There are actually a lot of things that are cool about God, but one is that we can walk outside and look at everything around us and see how amazing God is. He created everything around us so that we can see His glory and see how amazing He is. Today we are going to talk about who God is. God is so big and so powerful that we can never fully understand Him. He is so much bigger than us! Let's continue to worship this morning and praise Him for being a wonderful God. 6) Skit Who Is God? ProPresenter: None Characters: Storyteller Confused Props: Table on stage Neapolitan ice cream in a cooler Script: The worship team exits the stage. The table with the cooler should be set up on stage immediately. When the stage is ready, Confused bounds onto the stage, big Bible in hand. Confused should appear to be very anxious and excited as he/she looks all around. The storyteller enters the stage and walks toward Confused. Storyteller: Hi! I m, the storyteller, here at Camp Grace. Can I help you? Confused: Hi! My name is Confused. Storyteller: Confused? That s an unusual name. Confused: It s not so unusual. I hear people saying, I m confused quite often. Storyteller: Oh, no, those people aren t saying that their name is Confused. They re saying 2

that they are confused. Confused: Huh? You lost me. Storyteller: Never mind. It s not important. Confused, how can I help you? Confused: Well, I m here to worship. I heard this was the place to be. I went out and bought me a big Bible and everything. All I need to know is who to worship. Storyteller: You are in the right place. The key players get honor and praise around here. Confused: Who are they? Storyteller: Okay, listen closely. There is God. Confused: One God. Sounds easy enough. What do you call this God? Storyteller: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Confused: Now, wait just a minute. You said there was only one. Storyteller: Right. There is One. Confused: So, which one? Storyteller: Which what? Confused: Which name? Storyteller: The name I gave you. Confused: You gave me three. Storyteller: That s right. Confused: What s right? Storyteller: God the Father, God the Son, God the Holy Spirit. Confused: So, you worship three Gods? Storyteller: No, One. Confused: So, which is it? Storyteller: Which what? Confused: Father, Son, or Holy Spirit? 3

Storyteller: Yes! Confused: Yes what? Storyteller: That s God s name. Confused: Which God? Storyteller: Our God. Confused: Why did you give three names? Storyteller: Because they are not the same. Confused: But, you told me that there is one God. So, which is it? Storyteller: Which is what? Confused: Which is the name of your God? Storyteller: I told you: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Confused: Oh, I m so confused! Storyteller: You re right, Confused. This is getting confusing. Why don t you sit down with my friends and I ll try to explain. (Confused takes a seat on the edge of the stage.) Storyteller: That did get confusing. Let s be honest. It s not easy to understand that there is one God who is three persons. There are lots of things about God that we don t understand. This is where faith comes in. God asks us to believe it, even if we don t understand it. The Bible tells us that God is God the Father. He is God the Son. And, He is God the Holy Spirit. Confused, you are not the only one who might find it difficult to understand how One can be Three. (The storyteller should walk to a table or tray that will be set up beforehand. In a cooler, under the table, there will be Neapolitan ice cream.) Let s look at this container of ice cream. Now, this happens to be one of my favorite flavors of ice cream: Neapolitan. When I order this ice cream at Baskin Robbins, I just ask for the one flavor: Neapolitan. But if I take a good look at the ice cream (Open the container and hold it in a way that the kids can see inside.) there is chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. There are three completely different types of ice cream in this container, but we call it by one name. Our God is one God. In our one God, we find the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We call this the Trinity. Our God -the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit- has always existed. He was here before anything. In fact, He is the Creator. He created everything from time and space, to you and me! Isn t that amazing! We re going to study more about Creation when we go back to our cabins, because it is a lot to take in and try to understand. God s Word will help us 4

understand the Trinity and His Creation better. Before we head back, let s pray: Father, understanding that you are one God, but that you are also three Persons is hard for us. Help us to have faith. Help us as we go into our small groups to discover more about who You are. We ask this in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen. Gracechurchkids.org 2801 Pelham Rd.
