Reflections: YNIA EXPERIENCE I wanted to share a little bit of our YNIA preparation for this year s mission trip to Tucson. Last Friday we began the 24-HR Food Famine. It started at 8 am and we were all challenged to go without food throughout the day. Of course the youth were at school so you can imagine the kind of struggle it was with all the activities and everyone they were with snacking and eating lunch; sports and other activities kept a real challenge for the students. But we all stayed faithful to our fast. At 4:30 PM we left the parish parking lot for St Anthony s Church in North Providence, to gather together to share what the day so far had been like without food. By then you could tell the young peoples energy level was beginning to drain. After some ice breakers and just transitioning from our busy days, we begin to focus on some serious matters of safe environment, effects of hunger on our bodies and what hunger feels like right now, and how the place we will be serving is a different place economically and socially. We followed that up with some Ray Games. Ray Kane, one of our adult chaperones, led the group in a challenging exercise, which further explored the differences in the have and have nots in our society and how it feels to be one or the other. After a good discussion on that and about how everyone was feeling hunger wise, we began to wind down and prepare for sleep with lights out at 11. Up and out of our sacks by 8 we then had a little surprise for our youth. They were expecting breakfast; but first, after preparing them with a little talk about how around the world there are refugees who are displaced, sleeping on the ground and rising to walk to God knows where in hopes of finding their next meal, we had them pack up there stuff and walk several blocks to Christina s house where they were served a hot breakfast and our 24 hour food famine ended. I have fasted several times before, but to do so with such a great group of youth who are anxious to serve was a terrific experience for me and I am sure for the rest of our YNIA adult chaperones. Keep us all in your prayers as we continue to prepare for Tucson in June. Peace, Deacon Patrick Crowning of Mary Please join our Faith Formation students on May 7th for the Crowning of Mary Procession at the end of the 10 AM Mass. We invite all faith Formation families to attend this Mass since this is the last class of the year for all Faith Formation classes up to the 8th Grade. Immediately following the mass there will be light refreshments served in the parish center and the Grand Prize winner will be drawn for the Question of the Week raffle.

Workers Needed Our homecare program is looking for aides to care for elders and the disabled in surrounding towns. Aides provide light housekeeping, laundry and shopping. This program provides paid training, mileage reimbursements and a schedule to meet your needs. If interested, please call: 1-800-649-4364 Important Plea from the Diocese of Worcester, Office of the Bishop: At the Bishops Conference meeting in November 2015, the bishops voted overwhelmingly to support a request by Cardinal Wuerl for a one-time collection for completion of the mosaics in the main dome of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC. The last time a national collection was taken for the shrine occurred in 1953 in order to build the upper church. This collection is being held during the month of May, 2017. Rather than having a second collection at all the churches, the Diocese will have an online donation page on the diocesan website in order to give to this needed request. The National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington has served and continues to serve the American Catholic faithful through tremendous pastoral outreach. Raising the funds to complete this project which began nearly 100 years ago will make the shrine even more inspiring to visiting faithful in its role as a living sign of the continued faith of Catholic in the United States. Please help support the completion of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington whose beauty inspires us all! Most Reverend Robert J. McManus, Bishop of Worcester
