How often we have found newness of life welling up in our lives like a fountain when we thought ourselves unable to go on. Yet we still doubt the future. O Lord, deep is the thirst of your people. The weariness of life is sometimes too much. Our sins, our sorrows, our griefs dwell closely with us each day of the journey. So many demands are upon us, so many distractions, so many unspoken fears. Jesus said: The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life. Come, listen for a word from our God. All: March 25, 2012 We hear God calling us in a far distant voice. We confess there have been times when we had nearly forgotten God s care for us. Be of good cheer! The Spirit breathes life into our dry bones. God offers hope when we have lost our way. Our souls wait for the refreshment God offers. Our spirits are filled with great expectation for our journey to the cross is nearly complete. Christ came as a light to all the world. Christ comes among us today to light our way. We hear the teacher calling for us. Christ unbinds us that we may see and believe. Come down, O Lord, and complete this journey with your people. Help us, O God, to remain diligent, attentive to the needs around us, and receptive to your power-infusing Spirit.

from the pastor from the pastor from the pastor I am pleased to share with you the good news that Drs. Scott and Dawn Kendrick, have given a $50,000.00 gift to Oakmont designated toward the work of the Oakmont Community Center in memory of Scott s parents, Dr. and Mrs. Wayne (Amelia) Kendrick. Scott and Dawn are interested in the gift being used toward the Medical Clinic needs, and any ministries directed for the unsheltered homeless, moving homeless persons toward acquiring an apartment (with needed deposits or subsidized rent for a period of time), and/or keeping the working poor in their homes if some emergency arises that may find them facing eviction. Many of you will remember that Dr. Wayne Kendrick, prior to his death in 1999, was a physician in our community and one of the founding partners in Eastern Nephrology Associates in Greenville. Wayne was an ordained Oakmont deacon, member of the Chancel Choir, and a participant in the first medical mission trip team from Oakmont that spent two weeks in the Ukraine in 1996. He had a great interest in local and global mission work. Amelia, who died in 2009, was an active participant in the women s spiritual formation group that I led for several years. During my tenure as Oakmont s Minister of Education and Youth, Amelia served as a chaperone on numerous youth trips and events. Scott and his brother Bill grew up at Oakmont, and they both are now doctors in the same practice their father helped to begin. Dawn is a pediatric and emergency medicine doctor at Vidant Medical Center. We are grateful to Scott and Dawn for the confidence expressed by this gift in Oakmont s compassion ministries in our community. We share with them in grateful memory of the life and ministry that Wayne and Amelia had with us in our congregation. The Oakmont Community Center Vision Team learned of this generous gift in their meeting in January. They have recommended to our Diaconate and that group has given its blessings in their January 29 th meeting that our congregation receive a love offering once again this year during our Easter worship services. Specifically, the Vision Team and Diaconate are challenging the Oakmont Church family as a minimum to match this $50,000 gift in memory of Wayne and Amelia for the work of the Oakmont Community Center. In addition, the Vision Team also is actively applying for some community and denominational grant money that may well provide another $50,000 of support for this growing and evolving ministry. I know you join me in gratitude for this generous gift, and in praise to God for His goodness and blessings in Oakmont s life and ministry. Scott and Dawn Kendrick, have given a $50,000.00 gift to Oakmont designated toward the work of the Oakmont Community Center in memory of Scott s parents, Dr. and Mrs. Wayne (Amelia) Kendrick. Scott and Dawn are interested in the gift being used toward the Medical Clinic needs, and any ministries directed for the unsheltered homeless, moving homeless persons toward acquiring an apartment (with needed deposits or subsidized rent for a period of time), and/or keeping the working poor in their homes if some emergency arises that may find them facing eviction. Many of you will remember that Dr. Wayne Kendrick, prior to his death in 1999, was a physician in our community and one of the founding partners in Eastern Nephrology Associates in Greenville. Wayne was an ordained Oakmont deacon, member of the Chancel Choir, and a participant in the first medical mission trip team from Oakmont that spent two weeks in the Ukraine in 1996. He had a great interest in local and global mission work. Amelia, who died in 2009, was an active participant in the women s spiritual formation group that I led for several years. During my tenure as Oakmont s Minister of Education and Youth, Amelia served as a chaperone on numerous youth trips and events. Scott and his brother Bill grew up at Oakmont, and they both are now doctors in the same practice their father helped to begin. Dawn is a pediatric and emergency medicine doctor at Vidant Medical Center. We are grateful to Scott and Dawn for the confidence expressed by this gift in Oakmont s compassion ministries in our community.
