I would like to thank the membership for electing me to President and congratulations to all the other Officers who moved up. Especially a big thank you to Nick Baldi for his great year as president. As most of you are aware there are many changes being discussed about our Hospital system and your BOG is meeting at least once a month to ensure that every aspect is addressed, while communicating with the joint Board about the possible changes. You can be assured that your Board of Governors has our children s care as its top priority. As always everyone came to learn and participate. The presentations were excellent, and we kept the presenters on their toes. You will be receiving a questionnaire about what you would like changed or improved for future seminars. Please take the time to fill out the questionnaire because it is your seminar and we need to hear from all of you. I hope everyone enjoyed the presenters at the Tampa Hospital and the tour. I received very favorable comments about our Hospital and the presenters. My Shrine Center has an excellent Divan this year they are actually listening to me. I think there will be considerable financial changes to our accounting practices which will ensure our future of our Shrine Center. I am excited about our upcoming meeting at the imperial session in Daytona Beach and hope to see you all in attendance. Be Safe and God Bless Anthony (AJ) Bovio

Units use the Temple s Tax ID Number and should NEVER have their own Tax ID Number Page 2 Bill Wheeler 1st Vice President Thank you Treasurers for electing me your 1st Vice-President. Congratulations newly elected President Anthony (AJ) Bovio and to the other officers who moved up. And congratulations to our new 4th Vice- President Gary Morgan and Lady Teresa from Kosair Shriners in Louisville, Ky. President Nick Baldi and Lady Kay planned a wonderful educational and entertaining Mid-Winter Seminar for Shrine Treasurers and Ladies. Lady Brent and I have had a great year under your help and leadership. Not only did we elect officers for the ensuing year but were honored with the presence of Imperial officers and staff who gave informative presentations. Matt Noell - Director of Temple Accounting again gave an important presentation. Pages 13 and 14 of his presentation was: Temple Units and Shrine Clubs Definition of Units: Units are considered part of the working corps of the temple and typically reside on temple property. Units use the Temple s Tax ID Number and should NEVER Unit bank accounts should be set up under the temple s name with the Treasurer of the temple as one of the authorized signers on the account. Example of naming convention: Shriners International, XYZ Shriners, Oriental Band. Definition of Clubs: Clubs are typically several miles from the temple. Clubs have their own Tax ID Number that are obtained via an IRS SS-4 form. They should NEVER use the bank accounts should be set up under the club s name and Tax ID Number with the Treasurer of the temple as one of the authorized signers on the account. Example of naming convention: Shriners International, XYZ Shrine Club, c/o XYZ Shriners. This can also be found on our web site www.shrinetreasurers.org as a download : Temple Accounting 2017 Presentation page 6 and 7. During our Seminar we had a discussion on our Bylaws, Policy & Procedures regarding proposed changes which will be voted on July 15 at the 2018 Shrine Treasurers Association Annual meeting in Daytona Beach, Florida prior to the Imperial Shrine Session. The Mid-Winter Shrine Treasurers Association Seminar is a time of education and entertainment, to renew acquaintances and make new friends. Remember, you are the Chief Financial Officer, the CFO of your Temple. Your Nobles consider you knowledgeable of their funds. Yours in the Faith Bill Wheeler, 1st VP STA Cahaba Shriners

Temple Accounting as usual was very informative, " fourteen new Treasurers attended this 2018 Seminar Page 3 Bruce Wiggins 2nd Vice President Greetings to my fellow Treasurers and Nobles, we had a great Mid Winter / Spring Seminar, if you attended you know how nice it was, sorry if you could not attend. Tampa is always a nice place to go to get out of the Kentucky weather. No Snow!! Most of the information came from our Imperial Line and Tampa Staff starting at the top with our Executive V.P. John Piland. Next was Imperial Assistant Rabban Jeff Sowder covering fund raising and membership. Temple Accounting was conducted by Matt Noell and Deb Domini which as usual was very informative, they do this for us every year and we thank them for their information. Imperial Treasurer Brad Koehn gave us a good look on our finances for most recent year. John Hanson on Jurisprudence and Law was also very informative and many more from Headquarters. We had a very good meeting that everyone seem to enjoy. The food was great and the Hotel treated us like kings and queens. Sorry if you couldn't attend, maybe next year! Fraternally yours, Bruce Wiggins 3rd Vice President STA Rizpah Temple

Gary Morgan 4th Vice President would highly recommend you become a member and attend the meeting Page 5 Hello, I am Gary Morgan the newly elected 4th Vice President of the STA. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and my family to you. I have been married to Lady Teresa for 33 years. We have 2 children, Jameson who lives in Washington, DC and works for Homeland Security. Our second son Jordan is an Artist and lives in Louisville. KY. Both of our sons will be getting married in the fall of this year. Little about my Masonic History. I was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in 1986. I have served as Master of two lodges in Louisville, KY. I Joined the Scottish Rite in 1987. I am the current Jr. Warden of the Rose Corix. I was fortunate to be awarded KCCH in 2015. I am the Jr. Past Potentate of KOSAIR Shriners, Louisville, KY. After the retirement of a legend at KOSAIR Shrine, Treasurer John Wilder who served as Treasurer for 20 years, I was fortunate to be elected Treasure of KOSAIR Shriners. Myself and Lady Treasure were so impressed with the STA training meeting which was held in Tampa Florida this past March, we were greeted by everyone with open arms. The training course was one of the most to the point of any shrine training I have attended. Presented a lot of information which will be very beneficial to the Treasurers when we return to our Temples. If you are a Treasurer and don t attend or a Treasurer who is not a member of STA I would highly recommend you become a member and attend the meeting. Lady Teresa and I are very proud and excited about being a member of the STA and look forward to serving on the line. If we can ever be of any help or be of any assistance, please feel free to get in touch with us. Hope to see you at the Imperial session at Daytona Beach in July. Faithfully yours, Gary L. Morgan Treasurer KOSAIR Shriners 4th Vice President STA

Robert the Bob Bulman Secretary-Treasurer O first reading of the Association revision to the Bylaws' and Policy and Procedures Annual Meeting July 15th Daytona Beach FL. Page 6 Thank all of you that attended the 2018 Shrine Treasurers Association Seminar in Tampa March 24 26. Those of you who were unable to attend missed a lot of very helpful information, which has been highlighted by your officers earlier in this news letter. A first reading of the Association revision to the Bylaws' and Policy and Procedures were presented and tweaked for review by Jon A. Hanson Chairman, Jurisprudence and Laws Committee, prior to being presented for approval at our Annual Meeting July 15th prior to the opening of the Imperial Session in Daytona Beach FL. Currently our Bylaws provide the following Procedure: Article X - AMENDMENTS Sec. 1 Amendments may be made at any business meeting of the Shrine Treasurers Association of North America. An affirmative vote of two thirds (2/3) of the members present and voting at such a meeting shall be required to amend or altar these By-Laws. APPROVED: September 13, 1985 The Policy and Procedures Manual provides the following instructions: The purpose of this manual is to establish and define, within the context of the Association, policies, guidelines and procedures by which the Association officers and members will accomplish the objectives of the Association. This initial copy should be revised, corrected and updated whenever policies or bylaws are changed. The Importance of your attendance at this Annual Meeting has never been more important. Please make your arrangements to attend this meeting July 15. (breakfast will be provided) Yours in the Faith Robert (the Bob) Bulman, Secretary-Treasurer Past President STA 2015-2016 Midian Shriners www.shrinetreasurers.org

Guest Comments: Notes from Lady Jane Page 7 (Wife of the Secretary / Treasurer of STA Bob Bulman) A Ladies Mentoring Program was presented by Imperial Lady Cheryl Sowder for the Ladies attending the Mid-Winter Seminar. The following are excerpts from her presentation that all Temples should find helpful to ensure that every new Noble s Lady feels welcome. The Ladies Mentoring Program ideally works hand in hand with the Men s Membership program. Find that Lady in your Temple that works well with others, will communicate with the Divan and Membership chairman, will work with the Temple office staff, and make her your Team Leader. Passion, excellent communication and organizational skills are a must. The team leader should set up a committee of ladies in your Temple who are knowledgeable about the Shrine, and are willing to share some of their time helping the new Ladies understand all aspects of how the local Temple operates. This committee should be diversified with Ladies of all age groups. The Team Leader should be responsible to make sure each new Noble Lady has a Mentor assigned to her before Ceremonial Day. She then explains to each team member what is expected of them once a Mentee is assigned to them. They should be provided a guideline of Things to Do & How to Do Them before, during, and after Ceremonial Day. The Mentor should call the Candidate s Lady, introduce herself, and explain her relationship as her Mentor. She should ask her what her hobbies are, does she have children, does she work outside the home, what she likes to do for fun in order to get to know her a little. This information will be valuable later when introducing her. Discuss the date, time, and place of the Ceremonial; what the appropriate attire for the day is; if there is a Ladies Luncheon; parade; and any other details that would be helpful to her. Ask her if she has a ride or if you could pick her up. If she is meeting you there, ask her to meet you before the Ladies activities start so you can welcome her and introduce her to others. Make sure she receives a name badge. Continued on page 8

Guest Comments: Continued from page 7 It is the Mentor s job to make the Lady feel comfortable and relaxed as this is a Special Day for her. The Mentor should stay with her Lady at all times throughout the day, answering any questions she may have. While the men are having their initiation ceremonies, it is the perfect opportunity for the Divan Ladies and Mentors to meet with the new Ladies and give them some instructions for the day. Pass out your Ladies Handbook, maybe a Shrine folder that includes a welcome letter from your First Lady, pamphlets she can read at a later time about Shriners International and Shriners Hospitals for Children ; a DVD of the Lady of a Shriner ; and other informative information. Make sure she gets a copy of your recent Temple Newsletter, and any upcoming Temple events that include the ladies and families. Even though you have included a DVD of Lady of a Shriner in her packet for future reference, go ahead and show it to the Ladies as this was developed for this particular day. Have each of the Elected Divan Ladies explain different aspects of the Shrine, for example: their own Temple, how many clubs and units they have and give an example of units; Shriners Hospitals for Children and our Mission show a patient success story (these are sent to all the Recorders each year); Shriners International ; involvement in their Associations through competitions; Ladies involvement on the local level; parties, family events, etc. Give them an overall picture of what our purpose is and how they can be a part. Bring in a Noble and have them explain to the Ladies about the Fez and how it is to be worn. If the Ladies are involved in the Fezing ceremony, show them the proper way to put the fez on their Noble. Remember the more information you can share with these Ladies this day, the better. Make this day about them and their role. After Ceremonial Day, keep in touch with your Lady to make sure she knows all of the events at the Temple coming up that would include her. Make sure she knows what to wear and what time it starts. If the Ladies meet in a separate room in the Temple on stated meeting night, invite her to come along and join you. Ask if she will be coming with her Noble or if you could drop by and pick her up. As a Mentor, you are there to guide the new Noble s Lady. Never leave her by herself at a function. Let them know you care about her and are grateful that they have chosen to make a difference in a child s life. The ultimate goal is that their Mentoring experience should be such a memorable experience that they in turn should want to Mentor new Nobles Ladies in the future.
