The Spirit of St. Brnbs Community of Encourgement November 2015 Forwrd in Fith: Growing for Tomorrow By The Rev. Nncy Turner Jones From Medievl Irelnd comes n ncient story of n encounter between young mn on wlk nd n old mn struggling to plnt trees beside his house. Wht re you doing? the young mn sked. When the old mn replied, Plnting fruit trees, the young mn responded, But you ll see no fruit from these trees in your lifetime. True, the old mn nswered, but the fruit I ve enjoyed cme from trees plnted by those who cme before me. I m plnting trees for those who come fter me. In my first yer here t St. Brnbs I hve herd mzing stories bout the beginnings, worship in the High School, the swet equity, the drems. I think there hs been lot of tree plnting here, nd I don t men the trees on the property. In St. Brnbs short history, young trees were plnted nd cultivted, trees of ides nd pssion, worship nd eduction, trees seeking better world for those in this community. Those trees were tended nd nurtured, nd they grew, giving life to ministries whose fruit we experience tody. Lst Sundy t Children s Sbbth, we hd the opportunity to see dozens of children t the ltr, hering Godly Ply story. It ws mrvelous sight, the children gthered round, hering the story of the Holy Fmily. I think everyone who witnessed those children gthered t the ltr felt renewed hope for our ministries s we move forwrd in fith. The pst yer hs brought exciting trnsformtion with new stff, new fmilies, new progrms. The Intentionl Trnsformtion Tem stepped bck from their fine work, hving led the journey to renewed ministries nd we re grteful for their commitment nd strength in ledership. But we need to continue to move forwrd, continue to cultivte our newly plnted ministries nd nurture our new growth. So with tht in mind, I invite you to wlk the hlls of St. Brnbs, its rooms, its grounds nd her the stories it tells. Wht legcy of life re you willing to cultivte, not only for yourself, but for those who follow fter you? Wht scrifice cn we mke for the young ones yet to come?
