THE PASSION of GOD S FRIDAY 2009 THE COMING OF THE KING, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, SAVOIR OF THE WORLD John s Gospel Chapter 19:17-30 FRIDAY APRIL 10 TH. 2009 THE TITLE OF THE MESSAGE: When Hope Arrives, Everything Is Changes! The Good Friday Ministry of Jesus Christ The Prophet, The Priest, The King SUBJECT TOPICALLY REFERENCED UNDER: Good Friday, His Passion, His Intercession, Sacrifice Introduction to the Text; John 19:17-30 The Theme and Textual Summation of the Passage Lets All Stand for the Reading of the Word of God, John 19:17-30 >> It s Called Good or God s Friday << it s a day in history that is unlike any other day that this world has ever known or shall ever know yet it is a day in a series of days that has changed the course of human history for all eternity! Luke 9:51 Now as it came to pass, when the time had come for Him to be received up, that He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem, 1
Steadfastly Set // sthri zw sterizo, stay-rid -zo; in the original language church, it s in the positive form, meaning Jesus Christ was unwilling to be moved, resistant to a change of course. could not be distracted so focused just for me!!! He had Told His Displaces in the Past and in the days leading up to the cross - what awaited Him in Jerusalem! Matt. 17:22-23 Now while they were staying in Galilee, Jesus said to them, The Son of Man is about to be betrayed into the hands of men, :23 and they will kill Him, but on the third day He will be raised up. John 19:17-30 And He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha, (Calvary) 18 where they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center. 19 Now Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was this: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20 Then many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. 21 Therefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, "Do not write, 'The King of the Jews,' but that, 'He said, "I am the King of the Jews."'" 22 But Pilate answered them and said, "What I have written, I ve written." 23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now, the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece. 24 They said therefore among themselves, "Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be," this is they did not knowing that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: "They divided My garments among them, and for My clothing they cast lots." Therefore the soldiers did these things. 25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother's sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved (John) standing by, He said to His mother, "Woman, behold your son!" 27 Then He said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!" And from that hour that disciple (John) took her to his own home. 28 After this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, "I thirst!" 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. 2
WHEN HOPE ARRIVES, EVERYTHING CHANGES 1.) But Why - What Changes With Jesus Christ? WHAT CHANGES WITH JESUS CHRIST? 1a.) What changes - is the way God approaches man In the Days of the Old Testament Period or Dispensation The Lord communicated His righteousness to mankind by explaining to man that because God was perfect and we were imperfect there had to be an arrangement for the meeting! That Arrangement was the Sacrifice of Something Innocent. (in the case of the bible an animal - - it was to be repulsive, sad and costly) Col. 1:21-23 And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled :22 in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight - - :23 if indeed you continue in the faith, grounded and steadfast, and are not moved away from the hope of the gospel which you heard, which was preached to every creature under heaven, Good Friday is That Day When That The Arrangement took on a permanent, forever, once and for all power. 3
2Cor. 5:19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself WHAT CHANGES WITH JESUS CHRIST? 1b.) What changes - is the way man approaches God Mount Sinai and Law had Been Fulfilled in Messiah. Matt. 27:50-51 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. :51Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth quaked, and the rocks were split, Heb. 10:18-22 Now where there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. :19 Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, :20 by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, :21 and having a High Priest over the house of God, :22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, Gal. 5:6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails anything, but faith working through love. WHAT CHANGES WITH JESUS CHRIST? 1c.) What changes - is the way we approach one another 4
John 13:34-35 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. :35 By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. Eph. 4:29-5:2 Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers. :30 And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. :31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. :32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you. 5:1 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. :2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma. far to many Christians stink today, you can smell them a mile away. they open their mouths and defile the hearts and minds of those who hear them and worst of all they are an offense to Holy Spirit. John 15:12-13 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. :13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one s life for his friends. (its impossible to lay down your life for someone you re criticizing and gossiping about) WHEN HOPE ARRIVES, EVERYTHING CHANGES 2.) But Why - What Changes In This World? 5
BUT WHY WHAT CHANGES HAPPEN IN MY LIFE? 2a.) What changes - is the way we see things By Jesus Going to The Cross it would result in the most an amazing eye-opening effect upon the souls of man that the world would ever know. Jesus Death Set In-Motion His Last Will and Testament. Heb. 9:14-17 how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through The Eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? :15 And for this reason He is the tor of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, (O.T.) that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance. :16 For where there is a testament, there must also of necessity be the death of the testator. :17 For a testament is in force after the man is dead, since it has no power at all while the testator lives. Jesus was empowering your salvation, you retirement at the cross, for all eternity!!! John 19:30 "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. totelistia paid in full or communicated in full tele w teleo, tel-eh -o; it s a little understood word. its predominantly a scientific term but is also theological term. it means the transference of information. - - we might use the word teleonomic or teleos. it is the root word for telemetry the communication of information that determines a course. 6
DNA is a Perfect example of Telonometry In This Context It Means that as that moment, Jesus Christ Uploaded all the Sin of the World to the Altar in Heaven above. As soon that that communication was complete, the Father then Downloaded all the Righteousness of His Son to Us. NLT 2Cor. 5:21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ. NASB 2Cor. 5:21 He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him. Dr Charles Ryrie Puts it This Way; If one were to look for what is the heart of the Gospel, one would need to look no further that this KJV 2Cor. 5:21 That God the Father Laid Upon His sinless Son Jesus Christ, all the sin of mankind both corporately and personally, that He became what we are so that we would be come what he is righteous by His perfect offering of Himself. BUT WHY WHAT CHANGES HAPPEN IN MY LIFE? 2b.) What changes is - the way we view this world What s Your World View? Every Human Being Has One Even Some Christians. 7
it s what a person believes about the why and what this world is here for. Jesus Said This World is Dying from Sin and It Cannot Be Saved -It s Infected Beyond Recovery Put the People in This World Can Be Rescued The Christian View of This World is; Get Off of It as Soon as is Possible. John 3:15-18 whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. :16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. :17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. :18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. BUT WHY WHAT CHANGES HAPPEN IN MY LIFE? 2c.) What changes is - the way we see our future I personally believe that the united states will see a little up and little down for a while, but according to the Bible, America has to come down as a world leader and as an economic power no doubts about it! But What About Us That s Great Thing About Being a Christian. we are Christians before we are Americans. 8
that s why we voted biblically - not racially in this last election. If the world could save itself them why in the world would Jesus Christ be hanging on a cross this Friday? John 10:9-11 I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. :10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. :11 I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep. WHEN HOPE ARRIVES, EVERYTHING CHANGES 3.) But Why - What Changes Happen in My Life? can you think of people who have come and gone who have effected the world? sure you can. Hitler, Mohammad, mao, lennin, mark, alexzander, napolian. where are these guys? // and what have they left their followers? Can They Announce to The World That They Have Under Gone a Dramatic Change of Love, Peace, Joy, Hope, Fulfillment Acts 17:28 for in Him we live (exist with a purpose) and move (stirred up) and have our being, (a living, vital hope) 9
BUT WHY WHAT CHANGES HAPPEN IN MY LIFE? 3a.) What changes is - the way He lives your life In My Life I Have Met a Few Christians who were truly devoted to Not living their lives for themselves. (own agenda, own plans, own glory, own success) But Those Whose Lives have Been Changed It s a Beautiful Thing. Col. 1:27 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever :17 the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. :18 I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you. BUT WHY WHAT CHANGES HAPPEN IN MY LIFE? 3b.) What changes is - the way He holds your life 10
I become aware that this Jesus Christ of The Bible desires tings for my life that I could never have imagined. I Only Need to Think About My Own Life Growing Up, I never felt like a belonged, I didn t fit in. I was an unwanted pregnancy, rejected by my father, raised by my mom and sister, could speak without stuttered all over myself, thoughts of suicide but found out that I want to bad at playing football there I felt like I could settle the score in life. but it wasn t until I heard that Jesus died for me that everything changed for me, everything!!! Psa. 139:13-17 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother s womb. :14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous and how well I know it. :15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. :16 You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. :17 How precious are your thoughts about me, O God! They are innumerable! BUT WHY WHAT CHANGES HAPPEN IN MY LIFE? 3c.) What changes is - the way He values your life The other day I was in a home of a dear friend and his children came walking thru the front door after being at school the house and they exploded with smiles and hugs and kisses Matt. 6:9 Jesus said; When you Pray, Pray like this Our Father in heaven, Matt. 6:8 11
For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. Get This - The God of the bible has written to us, asking us, calling us, inviting us to call him father. Think about what that means the infinite creator of the universe says Call Me Dad, Call Me Papa. I m a dad, a papa to my daughters. the thing is - - I m so often discussed with myself as to often I blow it at being their dad. as a father you look into the eyes of your kids and there is nothing more important to you, that they be happy, healthy and blessed. and if I could prevent all evil pain and suffer form happening to them I would. Jer. 31:3 The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with loving-kindness I have drawn you. Now Think of God the Father, saying to you, Please! Please let me be all those things you need in this life. It s His bleeding That has colored me beautiful. It s His suffering That has brought me joy. It s His anguish That has filled my heart. It s His beating That has comforted my soul. It s His poverty That has made me rich. It s His rejection That has accepted my life. It s His death That has given me victory. It s His cross That has set me free. 12
The Communion Service Luke 22:14-28 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. :15 Then He said to them, With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; :16 for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God. :17 Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this and divide it among yourselves; :18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes. :19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me. :20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you Num. 6:24-26 Now may The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace. In the Name of His Only Glorified Son, Jesus Christ. - Amen End of Study 13
