Welcome, Worship Orientation 101, Connection Cards Children + Youth Help Introduce the Day No Longer Strangers Prayer Creator God, We are always looking for you, for your love and presence. Open our eyes to see you, already there, in one another; friends and strangers alike. Amen. Meet Someone New We practice being Christians by extending our hand in friendship to people we may not know very well or at all. If we can t practice it here in worship, where else can we do it? Go ahead, make the first move. Hi, my name is. You re new to me. OR Can I introduce myself to you? are good ways to start. We simply cannot be afraid of one another. Reprise Did You Feel The Mountains Tremble Confession Blessed be the holy Trinity, + one God, who forgives all our sin, whose mercy endures forever. Amen God of mercy and never ending grace, come to us and help us. Turn us from sin. Turn us toward you. Stir up the power of your Holy Spirit so that we might be able to say out loud what it is we ve done and receive your forgiveness right here, right now. Let us confess that God is God and we are not. Silence is kept for reflection. 7

Generous, Re-creating God, There is nothing we can hide from you the good, the bad. All of it. You know who we have loved and who we have refused to love. You know how we ve sectioned off our hearts and our lives. You know what we ve done. You know what we ve let die on the vine. We are sorry. We ask you to forgive us, to make us new, to have more power in our lives than the sin we let define us. Hear this Good News: You are not your mistakes. You are a beloved Child of God, known by God as precious and lovely and forgiven. Rejoice! By grace you have been saved. Alleluia! Thank you, God! Greeting The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the community of the Holy Spirit is with you all And also with you. KYRIE ELEISON (Lord, Have Mercy) 8

Prayer of the Day Let us pray, A brief silence is kept before the prayer. God of mercy, your vision of justice for all is at the center of our faith. Clear our eyes to see it newly as something worth striving for, as messy and difficult as it may be. Help us to see your Good News in the lives of others. Amen. The Story READER: Today, our story and God s story is found in the book of Amos, chapter 1, verses 1-2; chapter 5, verses 14-15 and 21-24. 15

Tekoa: te-koh-uh Uzziah: yoo-zai-uh Jeroboam: dzhehr-o-bo-uh Joash: DZHO-ash NARRATOR: The words of Amos, who was among the shepherds of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of King Uzziah of Judah and in the days of King Jeroboam son of Joash of Israel, two years before the earthquake. And he said: AMOS (SIDE 1): The Lord roars from Zion, and utters his voice from Jerusalem; the pastures of the shepherds wither, and the top of Carmel dries up. AMOS (SIDE 2): Seek good and not evil, that you may live; and so the Lord, the God of hosts, will be with you, just as you have said. ALL: Hate evil and love good, and establish justice in the gate; it may be that the Lord, the God of hosts, will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph. NARRATOR: I hate, I despise your festivals, and I take no delight in your solemn assemblies. Even though you offer me your burnt offerings and grain offerings, I will not accept them; and the offerings of well-being of your fatted animals I will not look upon. Take away from me the noise of your songs; I will not listen to the melody of your harps. But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an everflowing stream. READER: Stay tuned for the continuing drama that is our story and God s story. ALL: Thanks be to God. Sermon Music After Sermon Canticle of the Turning Please write your prayer requests as we sing together. The people who will pray your prayers will pick them up from you. 16

17

Prayers of the People Prayers will be written on papers or texted by the people and prayed out loud, anonymously, by two people from the congregation. After 3-4 prayers are read, the reader of the prayers will say Pray-er: God of love, ALL: Hear our prayers. The Meal Offering All that we have and all that we are comes from God. Let us give back to God in a spirit of generosity. There will be enough. Please put your offering of gratitude to God in the plate as it passes by. Prayerfully consider giving a consistent financial gift to River of Hope so our community cannot just survive but thrive. The watering can is for Laundry Love. The Backpack is for pudding for Common Cup and the Backpack program. Offering Song Let the Vineyards Be Fruitful 18

Setting the Table As the kids help set the table, they make a circle around the table and lead the congregation in the table prayer written by Martin Luther: Thanksgiving for Gifts Merciful God, we offer with joy and thanksgiving what you have first given us our selves, our time, and our possessions, signs of your gracious love. Receive them for the sake of him who offered himself for us, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Let s pray: Come, Lord Jesus, be our guest. And let these gifts to us be blest. Blest be God who is our bread, may all the world be clothed and fed. Amen. The Lord is with you. And also with you. Lift up your hearts. We lift them to the Lord. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give our thanks and praise. It is indeed right, our duty and our joy, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks and praise to you, almighty and merciful God, through our Savior Jesus Christ. And so with all the choirs of angels, with the church on earth and the hosts of heaven, we praise your name and join their unending hymn 19

20

In the night when Jesus was betrayed by his best friends, he took bread. He blessed it and broke it and gave it to these same friends saying, Take and eat. This is my body given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me. Again after supper he took the cup, blessed it and gave thanks and gave it for all to drink saying, this is the new covenant, the new promise, for the forgiveness of sin. Do this for the remembrance of me. The Lord s Prayer You are invited to join hands with those around you in prayer. If you are not the hand-holding type, then simply fold your hands in front of you or hang onto this bulletin as you pray. Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever. Amen. Invitation to the Meal You are welcome to this meal. If you hunger and thirst for grace and mercy that comes through Jesus Christ, then Christ has set this table just for you. Bring all that you are and all that you have to the table. You will be fed. You are forgiven. There is enough. Communion Songs Seek Ye First & Let Justice Roll Like a River 21

Blessing after Communion May the body and blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ, strengthen you and keep you in his peace. Amen. Prayer After Communion Gracious God, you provide the true bread from heaven, your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Grant that we who have received the Sacrament of his body and blood may abide in him and he in us, that we may be filled with the power of his endless life, now and forever. Amen The Sending Why does our church exist? What is our purpose? We go out to transform lives through Jesus Christ. Purpose Sightings MILESTONES "It's time for milestones-a time of sharing milestones in our community. Big, small, good, bad. Come on up if you have one to share.
