HINDU SENIOR CITIZENS - TWO MEETINGS DURING APRIL AT ICC April 10 Dr. Inder P. Goel, one of the best cardiac surgeons in the profession, will speak to us about the coronary artery disease as it pertains to the Indian population. Fats, cholesterol and other substances build up in the walls of our blood vessels over a period of time and form a type of plaque, some of which breaks off to form a blood clot to block the flow of blood, which leads to a heart attack or a stroke. Dr. Goel will explain how this is preventable and what foods are good or not good for a healthy life style. It will be an interactive session in a simple language understandable to non-professionals. Good health is the basic mechanism for being independent and for ensuing brimful enjoyment of life. This session should interest all seniors. April 24 We will have a highly entertaining session of brain-teasing interactive games, puzzles, and quizzes of fun for one and all. Sarla Gupta, JP Gupta, and Dev Gupta have the expertise in this area and they are preparing for a funfilled evening. Come and be a part of the amusing and challenging moments. Please RSVP for your fist and second meetings by Monday, April 7. If you want to RSVP for your second meeting later please do so by Monday, April 21. Both the meetings will end with dinner provided by member families who are already signed up for it. S. Gambhir, President HSCSJ Hanuman Jayanti Tuesday, April 15, 2014 at 6pm to 8pm Hanuman Jayanti is celebration of birth of Lord Hanuman. BalVihar and Yuva Darshan Annual Day Come one, come all! Friends and family are invited to attend the BalVihar and Yuva Darshan Annual Day, an amalgam of dances, skits, and shlokas performed by the Bal-Vihar and Youth students to exhibit what they have learned throughout the year. Annual Day will be held on Saturday, May 3th, 2014, at Thomas E. Harrington Middle School. Vallabh Jayanti Celebration Shri Mahaprabhuji is the founder of religious sect called Pushtimarg. He was born in the year 1478 A.D. at a Champaranya village near Raipur in Madhya Pradesh. He is one of the foremost Indian philosophers taking the rank amongst the first class Acharyas who has expounded the school of Shuddha-advaita. Vallabhacharya her-alded a new era of Bhakti-Marga, which teaches unswerving love toward God admitting everyone in the fold, irrespective of sex, cast or nationality. Pushti Marga, the path of grace as founded by Shri Vallabhacharya is very easy to follow as a way of life by common people. Once you commit yourself to God by ritual of Brahma-Sambanth, God takes care of you unconditionally. He takes you to Pushti Marga by his teaching of Shrodas- Grantha. In Pushti Margs, Bhakti is not a means, but an end. It is also called Premlakshana Bhakti. Shri Vallabhcharya s other works include Anu-Bhashya (Commentary on Brahma Sutra), tattva Dipa Nibandha and Subodhini (Commentary on Bhagavata). Vallabha regards Shrimad Bha-gvata as the most authentic work on knowledge of God. The Hindu Temple in Berlin will celebrate Vallabh Jayanti on Sunday, April 27, 2014 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. There will be a chanting of Pusti marg s Yamunasthaka, and other PĀTHA, fol-lowed by melodious Kirtans. Mahaprasad will be served after Aarti at 6:00 PM. ITA Seva Samiti update by Sadhna Kothari Seva Samiti Open House on Friday March 14th The 2014 Open House/Family night kicked off at 6:30 pm with salad and pizza for dinner. Our Bal Vihar children and Youth with their parents as well as Mandir members were in attendance, creating a warm atmosphere. We convened in the main Mandir Hall after dinner for the handing out of certificates to the Youth contingent, for their wonderful volunteer work. Lataji, our Seva Samiti Chair spoke about the importance of Seva work and how our Hindu values behoove us to give back to our own community and neighborhood. We had Aarti and then relaxed into viewing the movie I Am Kalam the tale of a young boy born into a life of poverty who dreamed of a bigger and better life and made every effort to secure an education, influenced by his Hero, President Abdul Kalam. Projects like the sandwich program for the homeless, community outreach, Cancer Walk and Golden Shield are revving up for the year and volunteers are needed and invited to join in the effort. We have opportunities and advantage and sharing with others who do not, only adds to the fullness in our lives. ***INSPIRE*** ***ENCOURAGE*** ***VOLUNTEER*** JAI SHREE KRISHNA ~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~**~~ SAVE THE DATE & SIGN UP ITA Seva Samiti walks with American Cancer Society in the Relay for Life of Marlton When: Saturday, May 31st, 2014 from 4pm-Midnight Location: Cherokee High School, Marlton To sign up or for more details contact Chetna Giyanani at (856)520-8706 or chetnatemple@gmail.com Bal Vihar - New Beginning By: Vikram Meyyappan The first Balvihar session in March started out with the chanting class with Malathi aunty. Chanting class was from 9:30 to 9:50 during Balvihar. This week, we focused on the sloka Gurur Brahma and the proper way to say it. After the chanting class, we headed out to the main hall. In the regular session, we chanted many slokas too. Afterwards, Ramesh uncle told us two stories about Holi. Bhavish uncle made some new announcements. He spoke about the open house and movie night at the Berlin Temple. He also said that Annual Day will be held at the Thomas E. Harrington Middle School on May 3 rd, 2014. He said that the fee would be $20 per family for Annual Day. While we were at class and doing yoga, the parents were at the Happiness Workshop which was organized by the Art of Living volunteers. We had pizza, as usual, and everybody liked it. The second Balvihar session was at the Indian Cultural Center (ICC). It is a new building that was built especially for the Balvihar family and to the rest of the community. I am sure most of the Balvihar students were excited to go there! There was no chanting class this session. We all gathered in one big auditorium and chanted the regular slokas, and Ramesh uncle told us a story about throwing away hatred and trying to adjust with everyone. Also, Chetna aunty announced the cancer walk. She said that the ITA Seva Samiti joins hands with the American Cancer Society in the Relay for Life on Saturday, May 31, 2014, at the Cherokee High School and asked those who were interested to sign up for the walk. She also mentioned ITA issues community service hours to student participants and volunteers. We had classes and yoga. The classrooms, which were big, were on different floors. Yoga was held in the main auditorium. We had pizza for lunch and we all had a wonderful time at the ICC with the help of everyone who made this possible.
