Vivat Jesus April Thoughts: Patriotism is hanging in and doing your best President Harry S. Truman once said: The greatest epitaph is right here in Arizona. It s in Tombstone, Arizona, and the epitaph says, Here lies Jack Williams. He done his damndest. I think that is the greatest epitaph a man could have. Whenever a man does the best he can, then that is all he can do; and that is what your President has been trying to do for the last three years for this country. ( Mark Link, S.J.) What motivates Knights to do the best they can for God and country? Let us be up and doing, With a heart for any fate; Still achieving, still pursuing, Learn to labor and to wait. Principles of the Order Charity, Unity, Fraternity, Patriotism SK Robert Font, Faithful Captain Unity: An excellent example of our unity and strength as an Order took place this past April 2 at the Exemplification ceremony held at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Wichita Falls. Forty four of our Brothers became Sir Knights at this event. Many Assemblies were represented. SK Larry Weygandt became a new member of the MTA. April Thoughts (Continued): Henry W. Longfellow Note: This was taken from Knights to Christ (pg 88) and occasionally passages will be repeated here when thought to be important. MTA Upcoming Events for 2016: May 2016 June 12, 2016 June 26, 2016 July 2016 Fraternity: Mother Teresa Officer s Elections Flag Retirement Ceremony Officer Install MTA Awards Program A recent opportunity to enjoy the fraternity of our Order involved the Ladies Appreciation Dinner held this past March 19 at Napoli s Italian Restaurant in Wylie. Forty four attendees participated in the event. Our Ladies were duly honored, as they constitute an absolutely integral part of our success as an Assembly. As your Faithful Captain, I express my gratitude to those who joined us on such an important and pleasant occasion. Charity: Sir Knights, as your Faithful Captain I urge you to continue to be as proactive as possible regarding charitable contributions. In our great country we enjoy countless blessings and abundances that are missing for many of our brothers and sisters worldwide. As Christians and 2

As your Faithful Captain, I had the honor to participate in this gathering and to welcome Larry along with our Faithful Comptroller, SK Chester Salacinski, and our Worthy Area Secretary, SK Stewart Hempel. In addition, I was able to represent our CC during the mass which followed the ceremonial. Patriotism: As your Faithful Captain, I have been recently dismayed and frustrated with certain events regarding the political campaign to elect our new national President this upcoming November. No matter what political party one may support, the first amendment of our constitution guarantees free speech. Whether or not we agree with what is being said, our laws allow us the liberty to express our views. Much blood has been shed to assure that we have such freedom. Our first amendment, however, does not protect those who promote violent acts and disruption of public services. Sadly, we are witnessing well organized and paid protesters use tactics similar to those used by the Bolsheviks around the time of the 1917 Russian revolution and later adopted by the Soviet empire as well as Nazis and fascists in the 1930s, 1940s and beyond. Because of my specific life experiences, I am observing the repetition of very distressing patterns of behavior that undermine our democracy and freedom of expression. Brothers, if we do not learn from history, we are bound to repeat the mistakes of the past. Unfortunately, an understanding of certain historical events, sociopolitical maneuvers and historical figures of the past is lacking in a significant percentage of our population. members of our Order, let s be as generous as possible in helping those in need. In the words of our own Mother Teresa, It is not how much we give but how much love we put into giving. Informal Gatherings: We will update you in the future, but as of now the only types of programs we have looked into are: Facebook You can do a select groups, but you have no control of when or how it is received by the group. Also you have to be friends and a lot of knights do not use it so it is limited. Good for mass mailings to everyone you have friended, but otherwise not really what we are looking for. Not interested in Twitter or Snapchat, Not interested in having to buy apps or programs that you have a maintenance fee on. Whatever we end up doing, it needs to be an easy, smart phone type app that doesn t require we pay each time we use it. Also we are running into issues with phone plans where text messages costs the receiver each time they get a text. So we will keep trying but for now it will hold on the back burner. Spring Exemplification The second spring exemplification was held Saturday April 2, 2016 at Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Wichita Falls TX, Congratulations to our newest Sir Knight Larry Weygandt. Last Rights Forms Have you filled out a Last Rites Form for the Assembly. Attached to your December newsletter was a copy of the last rites form for you and your Sir Knights Lady to review. Please fill this out and return it with your Assembly Dues. Trust when I say, that this helps your loved one s have peace of mind, and know that the Knights of Columbus are standing with them in their time of grief. As fourth degree members of the Knights of Columbus, we must continue to emphasize and promote patriotism whenever possible. It is sad 3

enough to see a malcontent drag and step on our honorable flag. But to witness the intimidation of those that wish to exercise their right of free expression is dangerous and a stratagem that we should not tolerate. We are proud of our country and have a duty to preserve its liberty. Please vote your conscience this fall and pray that God may always continue to bless the USA! Want to Include an Article in the Newsletter? Do you have Council Information you want to share with your Brother Knights. Just email the information to fnmta2506@gmail.com or give an officer the information at the next meeting or social. All information will be reviewed and included in the next possible Newsletter. Admiral s Table Brothers, One of our fraternal duties is the care of our brother knights and their families. In it s simplest form, that is a call to pray for our brothers, their families, and indeed our whole order. This call to prayer answers both our principle of fraternity and charity. But, as I said, that is the starting point. If you are able, consider what more you can do for our brothers. Admiral s Table Continued As in every year, there are opportunities for those among you that would like to help steer our assembly. We are always in need of dedicated Sir Knights to help share the load of leadership. Please consider which officer position you might fill for the assembly and speak to our Faithful Captain about joining the 2016 2017 slate of officers. While it is true that the national race determines the character of our actions as a nation, the results of the local races determine the character of our towns and counties. I don t know about you, but I don t have to live in Washington DC and rarely have to deal with whoever wins nationally in any deep or meaningful way. On the other hand, I do have to live with my mayor and commissioners and their decisions, right down to where I can plant my trees and how often I can water my lawn. In big national election years, the local elections are often overlooked in all the hype and hubbub. I strongly encourage you, brothers, to make your faithful, Catholic voice heard at the local level and ensure that the character of our towns and counties remains strong. SK John Parker, Faithful Admiral As I said last month, our fraternal year is winding down. At the last couple of months approach, I would ask that all of you consider our fraternal election. 4
