School of Glocal Mission WHAT? We believe that to plant churches, develop leaders and impact communities glocally we need to reach the lost, and to train and equip the saved to be glocal servants, glocal missionaries, and glocal disciples. School of Glocal Mission exists for this very purpose. We see that there are only two kinds of people in the world: the lost and the saved. For the lost, we need to plant the seed of the Gospel. For the saved, we need to provide hands-on training and ministerial tools to equip them on the task of reaching the unreached and making disciples of all nations locally and globally. WHY? The vision for School of Glocal Mission (SGM) is born out of Paul s missionary journey to Ephesus where he taught and preached for a period of two years in what was known as the School of Tyrannus (Eph. 19:1, 8-10). Ephesus is featured prominently in the New Testament as a base for evangelizing Asia Minor. Many Christians were equipped in this city who then went on to saturate the rest of their communities with the Gospel by planting churches, developing leaders and impacting their communities. Wherever they went, they shared the Gospel and made disciples for the glory of God and the good of all people. This is the exact vision School of Glocal Mission (SGM) wants to replicate. HOW? School of Glocal Mission is planted in cities around the U.S. and around the world. Currently, we have schools in three international cities: Mexico D.F., Mexico; Santa Rosa de Copán, Honduras; and Houston, TX; two more are planned by Spring 2013; 20 more are planned glocally by 2025. We also provide the following training resources: On-Site Training: We will bring contextual workshops and courses to your congregation and/or community to help equip, engage and extend your glocal-missionary impact Online Training: Videos, webcasts, book reviews and online curriculum for you and your leaders to use for Church planting, Urban, Glocal & Cross-cultural ministry, Bible study, Discipleship, Leadership Training and/ or Holistic Community Development Cost: It varies according to the customized package and the ministerial context Glocal Mission Tour: Nehemiah Vision Tour (Neh. 2:11-15) Did you know there are more than 6.24 million people living in the Greater Houston area? There are more than 350 ethno-linguistic groups represented and more than 215 languages spoken in this one city. That s a lot of nations, tribes and tongues! How are we going to reach them? We must start by getting to know them and interacting with them.

This is what Nehemiah Vision Tour does. With this tour, you will visit different religious and worship sites around the city, learning first-hand from religious leaders what they believe and what they practice. After this tour, you will emerge ready to engage more efficiently with people from different religious, cultural, ethnic, and linguistic backgrounds. You will observe, engage, and discover your own mission fields and communities. Tours are given as needed and are perfect for church groups, pastors/staff groups, church planters, denominational leaders, short-term missions groups, missions festivals, Jr. & Senior High youth groups, prayer groups, college/seminary groups, non-profit organization groups, and parachurch ministry groups. One Day Glocal-Missional Journey This is a special seminar that is designed to train and equip your church/ministry to move into action. This seminar is all about learning how to be a glocal-missionary in your own city. More than ever, God is bringing the very nations to our doorstep. We need to be alert to where the Holy Spirit is already at work and where the Gospel is already moving. The globe is within reach right here, right now in your own city. Glocal & Cross-Cultural Experiential Learning These courses are specially designed to move you into action. They are meant to teach you the basics on what it means to be a glocal missionary, why you should engage in being a glocal missionary, and how to be a glocal missionary. We will learn things such as: how to minister cross-culturally, cross-linguistically, cross-generationally, and cross-ethnically; how to communicate God s love in practical ways and through servant events; how to share the love of Christ incarnationally; and how to immerse yourself into the culture and experience the language first-hand. Glocal-Missional Conferences, Seminars, Workshops, Summits, Boot Camps, Retreats We are available for speaking engagements at conferences, workshops/seminars and mission bootcamps, retreats, or glocal-missional tours for your congregation or ministry. EthniCITY Houston / Demographic Data & Trends We provide this reference filled with demographic information and data on specific ethnic and immigrant groups for those churches and ministries who are looking to impact their city and communities. Inside, you will find information such as: maps of where specific groups live, work, go to school and shop; why and when they first arrived to Houston; their population data; their specific needs, such as housing, education, healthcare, language/literacy, and family; and much more. This resource is a MUST-HAVE for any church, ministry or organization that is serious about reaching the lost and making disciples of all nations locally and globally. Glocal-Missional Mission & Ministry Partnerships The best way to learn the culture and language of another church that is culturally, ethnically and linguistically different from your own is simply to work with and alongside them in an inter-dependent relationship. Our role is that of a catalyst and facilitator. Our goal is not to create dependency or cowww.glocalmission.org David Kim 713-494-3127

dependency in these partnerships, but inter-dependency. This means the relationship is not paternalistic, but one of co-laborers for the sake of the Gospel and Glocal Mission advancement. Glocal-Missional Coaching, Mentoring & Consultations You shouldn t have to do ministry alone. You shouldn t have to plant a church from scratch alone. You shouldn t have to build a leadership team or impact the community alone. You shouldn t have to train your leaders and members and missionaries alone; or start that Bible school you ve always dreamed of; or develop that idea you have to impact your community alone. Coaching can be defined as coming alongside you or your group to help you discover God s agenda for your life and ministry, and then cooperate with the Holy Spirit to see that agenda become reality. We ourselves know what it takes to plant a church; to take that dream and make it into reality. We know what it takes to take a leadership from none or a few non-committed, to a fruitful group of life-long disciples and learners. We know what it takes to make volunteers into life-long disciples of Christ. We know what it takes to start a School of Glocal Mission and take it from idea to implementation, nuts and bolts and all. We have coached hundreds of pastors and leaders that oversee groups of 5 and churches of thousands. From churches to small groups to short-term missions team to core groups and launch teams, we have facilitated and overseen them all. By the grace of God, we would like to help you if we can for your faithful and fruitful ministry for the Kingdom purposes. Our glocal missionary leaders will coach individuals or teams in how to best engage in Glocal Mission. Customized to your context, this training is valuable one-on-one conversation with experienced practitioners. Here are some practical areas where we can help you move forward: 1) Children & Short-Term Missions; 2) Creating Cultural Awareness; 3) Dangerous Destinations; 4) Debriefing and Team Follow-Up; 5) Devotions for Short-term Missions; 6) Disaster Response; 7) Encountering Poverty; 8) First Aid on the Field; 9) Fundraising for Short-term Missions; 10) Launching a Short-Term Missions Program; 11) Leading Teens on Short-Term Missions; 12) Ministering Cross-Culturally; 13) Missions; 14) Missions and Senior Adults; 15) Missions Committee Member; 16) Mobilizing the Entire Church for Short-Term Missions; 17) Modern Missions; 18) Outreach to Other Faiths; 19) Planning Service Projects; 20) Supporting the Missionaries You Visit; 21) and many more under Mission/Church Planting, Leadership Development and Community Development. Glocal-Missional Servant Events Servant events provide opportunities for Christian service to the Church and world. Servant events have been integral in supporting our mission churches by working on multicultural, human care, environmental, outreach, construction, crisis or family events. These events attempt to provide assistance with some of these needs, thereby providing an opportunity for you to grow in the meaning of having a servant heart.

These events include time for spiritual learning and growth through personal Bible study, group building, devotions and reflection, and connection with others. Servant servant give participants a chance to live out what they believe by connecting acts of service to daily life and sharing the love of Christ. They are designed to take you out of your comfort zone and experience the realities of others. They are an experience that will take you out of your daily routine, encouraging you to practice God s unconditional love, serve people in ways that enrich their lives and share your faith in practical ways. We invite you to become a glocal missionary and glocal servant by using your time, talents and treasures that God has given to touch someone in a way you may not even realize. Be prepared to work hard and be ready for God to show you how to reach out to multi-ethnic and multi-cultural people. Glocal/Urban Mission Trips Come see the city through Christ s eyes. Experience urban life firsthand. Learn about the city what it s really like (challenges as well as opportunities for the Gospel). Become part of the solutions for the city by offering your time, energy and sweat. This year, do something that will change your perspective of the city. We have 25+ mission congregations located in neighborhoods throughout the city of Houston and worshipping in more than 15+ languages. You can be a vital part of our missions and ministries. Bring yourself and/or a team to Houston to partner with one of our mission congregations for the sake of community outreach. Learn to see the City through glocalmissional eyes. Glocal-Missional Internship & Residency Program Our internship and residency program is specifically designed with church planters, missionary pastors and ministry leaders in mind. It is designed to be an intensive approach in order to prepare glocal servants to effectively lead Christ-centered, Kingdom-focused, Gospel-driven churches to the glory of God for the good of all people. The internship and residency program can be tailored to meet your specific needs and the length of the program is determined by you and one of our coaches. It is designed to expose you to many cross-cultural, cross-generational and cross-linguistic contexts to better prepare you for the 21 st century. You will be given hands-on ministry training to expose you to many areas in ministry that many church planters often overlook, but that are essential to the ministry. You will be trained and coached one-on-one by our mission congregation leaders, pastors and trained professionals who are on the field and have been fighting in the trenches their whole lives. The internship and residency program includes incarnational training, coaching, mentoring, ministry assignments, participation in on-site training and glocal servant events, conferences, seminars, camps, retreats, summits, networks and gatherings. You will leave this program with the tools and resources you need to effectively plant a church, lead a ministry, develop leaders, impact and reach communities, make disciples, and become a glocal missionary right where you are.

Glocal-Missional Community Assessment & Strategy Planning Assessing your community, its strengths and weaknesses, is an important first step in planning effective ministries. By taking the time to learn about your community s issues, you and your group can discover new opportunities to serve the community. We provide detailed guidelines for conducting effective community assessments. These assessments are designed to ensure that you and your group will meet the community s needs and make the best use of available resources. These assessments are adaptable to fit your community context. Our effective strategy planning tools and resources are customized to aid churches, church planters, leaders and groups in the strategic planning process. We provide examples and detailed and relevant guidelines to help churches and groups establish a strategic direction for their mission/church/organizations while enhancing excellence in the process. You can benefit by using our strategic planning tools and resources to develop a robust understanding of the community you wish to serve. Glocal-Missional Networking We seek to establish and promote partnerships that seek to develop a glocal conversation around the Glocal Mission agenda. We are convinced that answers to the question of what, why and how to reach a lost and fallen world are found as part of a dynamic interaction among like-minded peers, but also those of different backgrounds. To do this, we have established groups on social networks so that we can share our questions, our tears, our failures, our doubts, our concerns, our fears, our visions, our goals, our passions, our knowledge, our victories, and our successes. Glocal-Missional e-books, Tools & Resources We offer very practical tools and resources on a wide variety of topics, such as glocal mission, glocalmissional church planting, glocal-missional leadership, church, glocal-missional community development, glocal-missional leadership development, youth, children, men, women, missional, and much more! Occasionally, we also publish e-books on topics related to glocal mission.
