JOPPA (JAFFA) SEA OF GALILEE MEGIDDO & THE JEZREEL VALLEY FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 1 - Depart Portland with United Airlines nonstop flight #1217, leaving at 7:10pm and arriving San Francisco International Airport at 8:50pm. Connect with your United Airlines nonstop flight #954 to Tel Aviv, departing at 10:30pm. SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 2 - TEL AVIV Upon arrival at Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport at 10:35am, you will be met by a Ya lla Tours USA representative and transferred to your hotel in Tel Aviv for overnight. TAL BY THE BEACH is located just steps away from Metzizim Beach and Tel Aviv s vibrant port, shopping, dining and nightlife areas. www.atlas.co.il/tal-hotel-tel-aviv SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 3 - GALILEE (B,D) Our first visit today is Joppa, the traditional home of Simon the Tanner (Acts 10:6) and the city from which the prophet Jonah sailed. We continue to Caesarea Maritima, a large port city built by Herod the Great to honor Roman Caesar Augustus. Herod built a port in the bay and erected all the cultural institutions found in every great Greco- Roman city - a theater, a hippodrome, and a luxurious bathhouse. In order to supply water to the city s ever-growing population, he built an aqueduct system stretching from the springs of Mt. Carmel CHURCH OF BEATITUDES to Caesarea. Part of this system is still visible today. The Book of Acts refers repeatedly to Caesarea as the city Peter visited (Acts 10). We then proceed north to Mt. Carmel to visit Muhraka, where Elijah faced off with the prophets of Ba al (I Kings 18:20-40). Then we head for our hotel on the Sea of Galilee for dinner and overnight. THE SEA OF GALILEE HOTEL is a beautiful property on the western shore of the Sea of Galilee, about five miles from Tiberias. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 4 - GALILEE (B,L,D) After breakfast, we take a memorable private boat-ride on the Sea of Galilee on our way to visit the 2,000-year-old Genosar Boat discovered in 1986. Nearby, we visit the New Testament fishing village of Magdala (Matthew 27:56, 61; 28:1; Mark 15:40, 47; 16:1-19; Luke 8:2; 24:10). Continue to Tabgha, the traditional site of the multiplication of bread and fish (John 6:1-14) and then to Capernaum, with an ancient synagogue where Christ taught. Enjoy a St. Peter s Fish lunch by the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Visit the Church of the Primacy, which commemorates the naming of Peter as the foundation of the new Church (Matt. 16:18). Drive to Kursi and see the remains of the Byzantine church and floor mosaic commemorating the miracle of the swine running into the Sea of Galilee. End the day on the Jordan River, where you ll have the opportunity to renew your baptism. JORDAN RIVER ANNUNCIATION TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 5 - GALILEE (B,L,D) We will visit the Mount of Beatitudes, the traditional site where Jesus Christ delivered the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). Next, we re off to the ruins of the prehistoric settlement at Tel Dan, once a thriving Canaanite community and the northern limit of the Promised Land. It was here that King Jeroboam set up a pagan calf altar that brought disaster on Israel. Back on the bus, we continue north to Caesarea Phillipi (Banias Spring), where Peter confessed to Jesus, You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God (Matthew 16:16). Continue to the Golan Heights and then to Mt. Bental for an outstanding view of the Upper Galilee. On to Katzrin, the only city in the Golan Heights.

CAESAREA CHURCH OF THE NATIVITY NAZARETH VILLAGE WESTERN WALL WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 6 - GALILEE (B,L,D) Visit Cana, where, according to the Fourth Gospel, Jesus performed the first of his signs, turning a large quantity of water into wine at a wedding (John 2:1-11). Then to Nazareth Village for a first-hand experience of the way of life in ancient Galilee, including a biblicalstyle lunch. While in Nazareth (Matthew 2:19-23), we will also visit the Annunciation Church, where tradition says the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary (Luke 1:26-38), followed by a stop at Mt. Precipice, where the citizens of Nazareth sought to throw Jesus off a hill (Luke 4:28-30). The view of the Jezreel Valley, Mt. Tabor and Mt. Gilboa from here is exceptional. Continue to Megiddo (I Kings 9:15-19), where excavations have revealed 26 layers of civilization, including fortifications of King Solomon and a water tunnel of King Ahab. Megiddo is the prophesied site of Armageddon, at the crossroads of the ancient Via Maris freeway. THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 7 - JERUSALEM (B,D) Drive south along the Jordan Valley to Beit Shean (I Samuel 31:10) to see the excavatons of this Roman Decapolis city. Drive south to Belvoir (Kohav HaYarden), one of the best-preserved crusader fortresses in Israel. Continue to Mt. Gilboa, where Saul and his son Jonathan died (II Samuel 1:17-27). Also visit Gideon s Spring, where Gideon selected his soldiers to do battle against the Midianites (Judges 7). Drive to the village and Church of Emmaus, where Jesus appeared to two disciples after his resurrection (Luke 24:13-35). At Kiriat Yearim, visit the Church of Mary, where the Arc of the Covenant is meant to be (Samuel 4:1-7:2 and II Samuel 6:2-17). Climb the Judean Hills to the most beautiful city in the world, JERUSALEM, for dinner and overnight. DAN JERUSALEM is a beautiful 4-star hotel with a great view of Jerusalem from Mt. Scopus, 10 minutes from the Old City and downtown Jerusalem. www.danhotels.com this church began in 327AD on the traditional birthplace of Jesus. Then we continue through Boaz s Fields to see the Shepherds Field, where we will revisit the Christmas story with the angels and shepherds of Bethlehem (Luke 2:8-12). Return to Jerusalem and the eastern slopes of the Mt. of Olives to Bethpage, where you will see a first-century tomb. Visit the Chapel of the Ascension (Acts 1:6-11). Then, visit the Church of Pater Noster on the hill where Jesus was inspired with the Lord s Prayer. The walls of the church are covered with the prayer written in over 85 languages (Matthew 6:9-13). Continue to the top of Mount of Olives (Acts 1:9-12) for an awe inspiring, panoramic view of the Old City. Walk the Palm Sunday Walk to the church of Dominus Flevit ( the Lord weeps, Luke 19:41-44). During construction in 1955, archaeologists uncovered artefacts dating back to the Canaanite period as well as tombs from both the Second Temple and Byzantine eras. Also unearthed were the remains of a lovely Byzantine shrine with an elaborate mosaic floor that was incorporated into the church. Continue walking down to the Garden of Gethsemane (Matthew 26:36). Some of the oldest olive trees in the world are here. We will visit the Church of All Nations, which contains the stone traditionally believed to be the stone on which Jesus prayed on the night of His betrayal. We will have time for singing, reflection and prayer in a quite area of the Garden of Gethsemane. FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 8 - JERUSALEM (B,D) Drive 6 miles south of Jerusalem to Bethlehem (Micha 5:2 and Luke 2:1-4) to visit the Church of the Nativity, the oldest church in the Holy Land still in use. Construction of TOWER OF DAVID GETHSEMANE

DEAD SEA ISRAEL MUSEUM SHRINE OF THE BOOK MASADA THE WESTERN WALL & TEMPLE MOUNT SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9 - JERUSALEM (B,D) Drive east from Jerusalem to the lowest place on earth, the Dead Sea. See Jericho from a short distance. See Qumran, where the Dead Sea Scrolls were found in 1947. Continue to Masada, a natural fortress with majestic ruins overlooking the Dead Sea. Take a cable car to the top of the plateau for a tour. Jewish zealots held the rock for several months in 73AD under siege by the 10th Roman legion. The Romans finally took the fortress by way of a massive attack ramp. The camps and other fortifications that encircle the mesa constitute the most complete Roman siege works to have survived to the present day. Drive to the Dead Sea for a float. Stop at the Good Samaritan Inn to revisit the famous parable in Luke 10:25-37 and view some ancient mosaics. Return to Jerusalem and your hotel for dinner and overnight. SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 10 - JERUSALEM (B,D) We begin the day with a visit to the Israel Museum to see an exhibition of the Dead Sea Scrolls and a model of Jerusalem as it would have been in Jesus time. Continue to Yad Vashem Holocaust Memorial. As the Jewish people s living memorial to the Holocaust, Yad Vashem safeguards the memory of the past and imparts its meaning for future generations. For over half a century, Yad Vashem has been committed to four pillars of remembrance: Commemoration, Documentation, Research, and Education. May we never forget the terrible price Israel paid to establish her country. Meet a local cantor for a service in the memory of the 6,000,000 Jews murdered by the Nazis. Then visit Tel Azekah, an Israelite military outpost from which we ll view the Sorek Valley and the Elah Valley (I Samuel 17:2-19), the site where David slew the giant Goliath with only faith and a sling-shot. Continue to the Lachish area on the southern coast of Israel, where we will participate in an archaeological dig in Tel Maresha (Joshua 15:20, 44 and 2 Chronicles 11: 5-8). Return to Jerusalem and your hotel for dinner and overnight. MONDAY, NOVEMBER 11 - JERUSALEM (B,D) Start the morning with a visit to Caiaphas Palace also known as the Church of Peter Galicantu (John 18:12) and see the cistern where Jesus was held before he was taken to Pilate and the Roman Period steps he walked from the Kidron Valley. Continue to Mt. Zion to visit King David s Tomb and the Last Supper Room (Luke 22:7-28). Next, we will visit the City of David and see excavations which reveal the time period of King David. If weather permits, we ll walk through Hezekiah s Tunnel and visit the Pool of Siloam where Jesus sent the blind man to be healed. Walk the newly opened Pilgrims Tunnel direct to the Old City. See the ancient Southern Steps and the Hulda Gates (II Kings 22:14) which originally led up to the Temple entrance where Jesus is known to have taught and fought with the money changers. Walk to the Western Wall, the holiest site in Judaism and the only visible remains of Herod s splendid Second Temple, where Jesus walked and taught. Walk through the Western Wall Tunnel, huge arched spaces just north of the Western Wall, which link to a water tunnel cut through the rock to the north, apparently dug in the Hasmonean period (163 to 37 BC). TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 12 - JERUSALEM (B,D) Enter the Old City by Stephen s Gate (Lions Gate) to the Christian Quarter. Here is the Pool of Bethesda (John 5), where Jesus healed the blind man and probably the finest example of Crusader architecture in Israel, St. Anne s Church, which possesses amazing acoustics. Walk the Way of the Cross (Via Dolorosa), passing the Stations of the Cross to the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. In 325, Constantine s mother Helen first requisitioned the area for a church. This 4th-century church was largely destroyed by the Turks in 1009 and partially restored in 1048. The stone decorations adorning the facade date from Crusader times. In its current form, the church preserves the crusader structure and is shared by two major Christian denominations, the Greek Orthodox and the Roman Catholic. The church enshrines a tomb that some traditions hold to be the place of Jesus burial and resurrection. We conclude our tour with a powerful visit to the Garden Tomb, held by many Protestants to be the actual location of the burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (John 19:41-42 and Luke 23:53-54). We will have time for prayer and meditation and Holy Communion. Return to your hotel for a farewell dinner and time to rest before your airport transfer at 9:30pm. WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 13 - Depart with United Airlines nonstop flight #955 to San Francisco, leaving at 12:55am and arriving at 6:00am. Clear U.S. Customs and Immigration and connect with United Airlines nonstop flight #1875 to Portland, leaving at 9:15am and arriving at 10:55am.
