November 14, 2014 Youth Pastor/Leader, Greetings from the Southern District Youth Commission and the Hillsboro MB churches! We have been working diligently at putting together an exciting weekend and are expecting God to move in great ways! We hope this letter finds you ready to step out in faith. The theme for Youth Conference 2014, "TRUTH," comes from John 8:31-32. We pray our students will see how the truth of the Bible will set us free and the importance of absolute truth in world where all things seem permissible. We believe teens today are hungry for the truth from God s Word and how they can apply that to their everyday life. We want them to see the importance of giving God control of their lives and living a life that aligns with His plans. This year we are welcoming Michael Suderman back to the southern district. Michael was once a student at SDYC but this year will be speaking to our students about God s truth. Michael recently completed his Master s degree in Philosophy and Biblical & Religious studies from Oxford University. He is now living and working for Ravi Zacharias International Ministries in Washington DC where he is an intern working to serve local communities through evangelism and outreach. This year we have also committed to support the Raugust family. Paul and Sara and their 3 girls have spent 2 months with MB mission in Canada preparing to go on Jornada, a short term mission commitment. Our offering project for the year will go to helping them raise the support they need to get to the mission field. They will be serving in Paris with Craig & Fabi Jost where they will work with those who don t yet know the truth of Christ. Please encourage your group to begin thinking about how much they can contribute. Paul and Sara have been a huge part of the district as well, and we want to show our support as they answer God s call for their family. We will again include youth group breakout sessions in this year s schedule. These sessions are designed, in part, to address the need for community. We recognize that a student can be impacted by a speaker, but in the context of these breakout sessions, you as leaders, along with your students, can get down to the real application of what the presented truths mean for your individual lives and your student ministry. After lunch on Saturday, we will offer a variety of workshops for students to attend. Students will have an opportunity to go deeper into various topics. Information about the workshops will be available at the conference. Students can choose which 1-hour workshop they would like to attend when they arrive on Friday evening.
Some other details to take note of: We have attached a tentative schedule this will help you plan for times of arrival, etc. Note: Registration begins at 7:00pm on Friday night at Hillsboro MB. Please do not show up early as the registration table will not be ready. All students and sponsors registered by the deadline will receive a t-shirt at the conference. We will do our best to provide t-shirts to those who registered after the deadline. There will be no refunds for changes in registration that happen at the conference. Thanks for your understanding and help in this area. We will be having a sponsors meeting on Friday at 8:15 pm. Your attendance at this meeting is critical for a successful, smoothly running weekend. If your group will be arriving to the conference late, please contact me ASAP so we can coordinate housing and registration for your group. The conference will take place at Hillsboro MB. The address is: 300 Prairie Point Road Hillsboro, KS 67063 Activities. A list of weekend activities is attached. Some of the activities on the list have an additional cost associated with them. Please share this list with your students so they can plan how much money to bring. There is an opportunity for students to participate in archery tag during Saturday late night activities. However, students who would like to participate must bring a signed waiver and release with them to the conference. We hope this information helps you better prepare your group for a great weekend. As always, this conference will be filled with music, fellowship, food, fun, worship and break out sessions that will challenge current believers to be open to God s continued work in their life, inspire believers who have stepped off the road to get back on, and convey to new believers that now is the time to allow God to change their life for eternity. We look forward to seeing each of you! If you have any questions don t hesitate to contact me. Please continue to pray about the weekend, and for the students that will participate. "Jesus changed every human being he ever met...if anyone claims to have met him without being changed, he has not met him at all. When you touch him, you touch lightning." -Dr. Peter Kreeft. Jesus is not valued at all, unless he is valued above all." -St. Augustine The Truth About Sexual Sin Silence Breakers Come and engage with a panel of five Tabor college students known as The Silence Breakers as they share their personal stories of addiction to pornography. All guys and girls are welcome to attend to learn more about this hard issue and how to address it from a Biblical perspective. Everyone who attends will gain resources so they can be a help to others as well. The Truth About Values Chandelle Claassen How would you define your values? When our lives are lived in alignment with our values, we feel balanced and satisfied. When we aren't aware of our values, or live and work outside of them, an increased dissatisfaction with life occurs. This workshop will explore the truth behind values and allow time to discover the real priorities in your life as you work through a values identification exercise. The Truth About Ourselves Karen Bartlett Ever wonder about what God really feels about you? Ever think about why we listen more to what others tells us about ourselves rather than what our Creator tells us? I have. And I invite you to explore these questions with me through a conversation to hear what's going on around us and in us. The Secret Truth About Leadership Wendell Loewen We are all leaders because we all influence others. Come discover the hidden secret to truly effective leadership that makes an impact for Christ The Truth About How God Uses Us To Be A Part Of Kingdom Work When We Don't Feel Prepared Or Qualified Heidi Schmidt Do you feel like one of the reasons you are held back from saying YES to being a part of Kingdom work is because you think you aren't equipped to do it? The prophet Jeremiah thought he was too young and lacked the words, but God showed him that He always equips those He calls. The Truth About Walking In Authority Paul Raugust This is not so much about authority figures, but rather what the Bible reveals about authority and how it's part of our story? We can walk in authority. Are we living in the shallow end of faith and relying on our own legs to keep our heads above water? What does the Bible reveal about living in the deep end of faith where we cannot use our own legs? The Truth About Christian Colleges Tabor Admissions Office A look at the difference and the opportunity on a Christian campus. The Truth About Social Media Katrina Hancock The truth about social media is that it can come back to haunt you when you least expect it. When it comes to what you share, it's better to be safe than sorry. Learn about best practices for how to handle all your social media. You will see examples of how celebrities and companies have gotten into trouble with their posts. Learn from a former sports anchor/reporter, who was in the television business for 12 years in four different cities. Come and discover how we can know and defend the accuracy of the Bible. Many people today think that the Bible is a collection of myths and fairy-tales. However, if one examines the evidence you find that the Bible is true and is based on fact, not fiction. The fact that the Bible is true means that we as Christians can be bold in our faith and have confidence in Jesus Christ.
