This Week s Reflection - June 24, 2018 Dear St. Francis Xavier Parish Family, May the joy of the Holy Spirit be with all of you. The Catholic Church celebrates three birthdays during the Liturgical Year. The birthday of Jesus and Mary into this world are the two most important people that we are familiar with. This weekend, we celebrate the third birthday. It is the birth of John the Baptist. We hear in the readings of people who have been called by God from birth to show the glory of God. That is the call of Isaiah, John the Baptist, and Jesus. It is also our call from God. God calls each one of us by name and wants us to be servants of God. As we serve God, we bring glory to God. To be a good servant of God is not going to be easy. We will have our struggles and temptations to give up and go another direction. The prophet Isaiah realized that God was his strength. That same God is our strength and courage to help us today so that we may give glory to God and be a light that leads others to God. May God help us and may we help each other give glory to God. Love and prayers, Fr. Joe PARISH REGISTRATION If you are new to our Parish, we invite you to register: Introduce yourself to Fr. Joe or Fr. Page 6 MORE NEWS AND EVENTS YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS We want to welcome Janey Johnston as our new Director of Youth Ministry. Here is a little background Janey would like to share with parents and our youth. I was born and raised Catholic and attended Cathedral grade school. I have 5 children, 3 of which graduated from St. Francis Xavier -- 2 more to go! Tim and Pat will be in 7th grade in the fall. We joined St Francis Xavier in 2004. When Tim and Pat started preschool in 2010 I started working at St. Francis Xavier in their preschool. My husband and mother-in-law graduated from St. Francis Xavier also. I have had a lot of experience working and volunteering with the youth through my children attending school here and working here. EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP What power lies in a name? Have you ever met a "David," "Holly," or "Jack" and said, "They don't look like a David, Holly, or Jack"? Sometimes our name actually adds something to our person. Peculiar people sometimes have peculiar names. Some people of tremendous strength have names that we deem strong as well. Sometimes we give nicknames to people because of some attributes they exhibit. In the Bible, names mean a lot. Saul changes his name to Paul when he converts. Adam means "man," as in the first man. Eve means "to live" or "to breathe." Elizabeth took great care to name her son John as God commanded, even if other family members did not understand why such a unique name not found in their lineage. It was a unique name for a child who had a unique future of preparing the way for the Messiah. We have our baptismal names, our surnames, our Confirmation names, and our maiden names. But all disciples of Jesus also bear the same name: Christian. People may wonder what does a David, Holly, or Jack really look like, but they should never wonder what a Christian looks like. Unfortunately, too often those who bear this name don't resemble the characteristics embodied in the name. Simply, a Christian looks like Christ. A Christian acts like Christ. A Christian truly is Christ to a world that seeks to uncover the true meaning of his name.
