The Value of Properly Framing the Issue E X A M P L E ABORTION Pro-Choice Pro-Life A woman s A baby s right right to choose to life

The Authority on the Gospel Matthew 3:1-2 In those days John the Baptist came, preaching in the desert of Judea, and saying, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.

Mark 1:14-15 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee proclaiming the good news of God (gospel). The time has come, He said, The Kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news! (gospel)

Matthew 4:17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.

Matthew 4:23 Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness among the people.

Luke 4:43 But Jesus said, I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.

Luke 9:2 And Jesus sent them (the twelve) out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.

Luke 9:6 So they set out and went from village to village preaching the gospel and healing people everywhere. Mark 6:12 (parallel passage) They (the twelve) went out and preached that people should repent.

Matthew 24:14 (Jesus speaking) And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

John 18:35-37 Am I a Jew? Pilate replied. It was your people and your chief priests who handed you over to me. What is it you have done? Jesus said, My Kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my Kingdom is from another place. You are a king, then! said Pilate. Jesus answered, You are right in saying I am a king. In fact, for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.

What Have We Asked People to Do in Order to Become Christians? Believe the gospel of Jesus Christ Accept the gift of God s grace Receive God s love, acceptance, and forgiveness Commit your life to Christ Make a decision for Christ Pray the sinner s prayer

What Have We Asked People to Do in Order to Become Christians? Let Jesus come into your heart Put your trust in Christ as Savior Place your faith in the finished work of the cross Raise your hand during an invitation, come forward to the front of the auditorium, and pray to accept Christ with a counselor. Be born again by accepting Jesus as your personal Savior. WHAT S MISSING?

Why does it matter? Essentially, the Bible defines sin as an authority problem, a conflict over the issue of control: My kingdom vs. God s Kingdom This is the problem the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ was designed to solve!

Sin is a Kingdom Issue As a Kingdom issue it inevitably produces animosity, hostility, and conflict toward God. The crucifixion of Jesus demonstrates how far human beings will go to protect and preserve their kingdoms.

What is Repentance? (largely misunderstood) An appropriate response to authority. In Scripture, it is consistently used in connection with the kingdom of God. It means to turn from one kingdom to another literally to change sides.

Which Choice Addresses the Kingdom Issue? Repentance Faith Kingdom of SELF 1. SURRENDER Control Level I need a new leader 1. SORRY ABOUT IT Guilt & Grief Level I need forgiveness & another chance 1. SICK OF IT Frustration Level I need help Kingdom of GOD 1. FOLLOWING Obedience Level I have a new leader 1. ABIDING Love Relationship Level I have an eternal friend 1.
