BETHANY LUTHERAN CHURCH COUNCIL REGULAR MEETING OCTOBER 11, 2018

Transcription:

August 2018 TRINITY CONNECTIONS Dear Friends in Christ, THANK YOU! Thank you for your generosity that helps fuel God s mission here at Trinity. We have reached the half-way point in our financial year and there is good news. Giving is at 47% of budget with expenses at 44% which puts us in a positive cash flow as we move toward the fall. Special Music in worship has been a true blessing as we welcomed the quartet, 4Given, from St. Andrews in Mahtomedi in June and the Croix Chordsmen Barbershop Chorus in July. Our August musical guests will be the Unknowns and they will be with us in worship on August 19 th. Two new ministries will launch in August: 1. PRAY GROUND will be a special area in the worship center for children 1-5 years. This is will be staffed by adults and youth and feature coloring books, puzzles, soft toys, tables and chairs and of course, LEGOS. We believe strongly that children belong in worship as they are part of our church family. 2. BRELLA MINISTRY 5 60 golf umbrellas will be available at the front door for volunteers to grab one on rainy days and assist people coming and going from church. NO experience necessary, just a willingness to be a minister of hospitality. There are 19 umbrellas for sale at $20 each. The umbrellas are in black and navy panels with Trinity Lutheran Church imprinted. These are first come-first served. Stop by the office and get yours today. As you can see, your contributions allow us to transform lives in Spirit-filled ways. Even if you can t be here in the summer, we appreciate your continued support. As you settle into the rhythms of summer, may your spirit, mind and body be refreshed and renewed. See YOU and your GUEST in worship, Pastor Ralph

Clarity Movement Alignment Focus As the council develops relationally, the reading and sharing of chapters 3 and 4 in Simple Church, gives us insight into what our church ministry currently is and helps us to understand what we desire our ministries to be. The four elements of clarity, movement, alignment and focus are noted to be essential to the growth of a church. Clarity s definition tells us that this is the ability of a process to be communicated and understood by the people, and asks how we move people in growing spiritually? Movement tells us that there are steps in the process that moves people from lower levels of commitment to higher levels of commitment. Alignment shares that all ministries use the same process and move in the same direction. Focus helps the church recognize its main ministry and gives energy for sustainability. Questions we need to ask ourselves: President s Corner-Rose Kuebker 1. What is Trinity s ministry process? 2. Is our process clear? 3. Does our process move people effectively toward greater commitment? Several churches shared their ministry process. One small church shared its simple process of, connect, grow, and serve. All weekly programming was identified around children and teenagers. Another church shares its foyer to kitchen process. This process gets people into weekend Worship service, and then transitions them into small groups (kitchens). In these small groups, people develop relationally and grow deeper in spiritual maturity. Please join us at our next council meeting August 13 th, 2018, at 7:00pm for our continued exploration on how Trinity s process could use the four elements for our simple process in ministry development. Blessings, Rose Coffee Chat with the Treasurer As June 30, 2018 Financial Overview Year-to-date: Income Total $99,111 Expense Total $81,158 Total Income $17,953 All bills were paid for the month of June. Meet our New Bishop Elect Dear Friends of the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin, I am humbled and grateful for this opportunity to serve as your Bishop. For the last 4-5 years, I ve served as the Director of Evangelical Mission/Assistant to Bishop Rick Hoyme and before that for 28 years, I was a parish pastor in Windom, Slayton, St. Cloud and Pelican Rapids, MN. I am excited and hopeful about the future! The Holy Spirit is moving and working among us in new and exciting ways challenging us to go deeper in our faith and moving us outside our comfort zone. Paying attention to where the Spirit is calling us and learning to GO and DO in Jesus name is an important part of my work as Bishop. I encourage the people of our synod to not only GO to Church but to BE the church in the world. A little bit about me: My husband Randy and I both graduated from Luther Seminary in 1986. He is the pastor of Christ Lutheran in Menomonie. We have three adult children. Andrew (30) is married to Kristina. They live in Appleton and are expecting our first grandchild July 18. Matthew (27) is engaged to Emily Ewen. They are getting married August 18. Anna (24) graduated from St. Kates and works in Occupational Therapy. I love to garden and help things grow. I enjoy cooking and entertaining family and friends. When I have time, I like to bike, canoe or kayak. I look forward to getting to know you and your congregations. You are all invited to attend the official installation of the Bishop worship service on August 25, 2018 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Highlands, Hudson, WI. I hope to see you there. Bishop-elect Laurie Skow-Anderson Stewardship Ron Pratt, Chair COMING SOON! We will be having a faith-based Fall Stewardship Campaign for 2019 operations taking place during the month of October! We will have a dunk tank again and will have a fee for that. This year we will be selling hot dogs and chips upon requests from last year s Funfest goers. Popcorn and lemonade will be free as well as ALL the games. We will need people to sit in the dunk tank and also workers for set up and take down as well as people to work the games. There is a sign-up sheet on the counter in the Fellowship hall to sign up where you would like to help out. We have added more games and even some surprises.
