When asked this question we know that it is not about morals or attending weekly worship. To be Christian is to have everything in our life transformed and guided by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We do not try to earn our salvation by our good works. We

5 are not people who have our life perfectly in line with the will of God or somehow are morally superior to others. Rather living the Gospel means that we understand that by faith in Jesus Christ we participate in the new life with Jesus Christ. The Gospel defines for us our new condition of being holy because we have the complete forgiveness of God by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. And now, as holy people, we are incorporating the will of God into every aspect of our lives by making choices against sin and for goodness, by developing our relationship with God and by participating in God s mission to bring people into community with God and transform culture to the values of God. This is what we do and individuals and as a church. That is what we mean by this principle: We live out Gospel as we trust in redemption through Jesus and participate in God s kingdom work and community. That s my nickel. Pastor Bob UPCOMING SERVICES Sunday, May 27, 2018 Sermon Series Canons of Dort The Canons of Dort is a document created in the years 1618-19. It was written as an answer to what the Reformed churches of the Lowlands (present-day Holland and Belgium) were facing in the teachings of Jacob Arminius and a group called the Remonstrants. Although the Canons are often associated with Dutch churches, the document is actually the work of Reformed delegates from across Europe with a third of the members coming from countries such as Great Britain, Switzerland, Romania, Germany and France (It should be noted that the King of France refused to allow the French delegates to attend). In 1610, the Remonstrants published a document stating that God s choice to save people was based on God knowing who was going to believe (forseen Faith), that Christ s earned forgiveness forgives everyone their sin, that people are only partially corrupt, that we can resist the grace of God and finally that even though we may be saved, we can still lose our salvation. Although this is an historical reality, the fact is that we face some of these same misunderstandings today which we believe do not faithfully reflect the Word of God. The Reformed churches responded with these teachings of unconditional election, limited atonement, total depravity. Irresistible grace and perseverance of the saints. Over the course of this series we will unpack these 5 terms and understand how the Canons of Dort speak to us today in terms of comfort and confidence of our salvation in Christ Jesus. Pastor: Bob Loerts Text: Acts 2:29-35

6 Message: Promise & Fulfilment Offerings: Resonate Global Missions (DMS) & Sliedrecht Family PROFESSION OF FAITH Next Sunday we will celebrate with Justine Baarda, Ashley DenBak, Keiley Dykstra, Harrison Exelby, and Ethan Vahrmeyer and their families as they make their Profession of Faith.
