Seek the Lost Build up the Found Transform the City Through Jesus Christ February 5, 2017 CALL TO WORSHIP (Psalm 84:1-4) & PRAYER OF APPROACH All: How lovely is your dwelling place, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, faints for the courts of the LORD; my heart and flesh sing for joy to the living God. Even the sparrow finds a home, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, at your altars, O LORD of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are those who dwell in your house, ever singing your praise! Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen. Almighty God, to you all hearts are open, all desires known, and from you no secrets are hid: cleanse the thoughts of our hearts by the inspiration of your Holy Spirit that we may perfectly love you and worthily magnify your holy Name, through Christ our Lord. Amen

The children will return prior to Communion. Gospel Reading The Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.. Glory to You, Lord Christ. Luke 12:13-21 (pg. 845) The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to You, Lord Christ. MESSAGE Sermon Series: Balanced Creating a New Line Item Rev. Patrick Dominguez This series uses material with permission from Andy Stanley and North Point Church. THE APOSTLES CREED (said together) I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth; I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord; He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church*, the Communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen. * The phrase holy catholic Church in the Creed means the Church worldwide. 3

PRAYERS OF GOD S PEOPLE Heavenly Father, we humbly ask you to hear the prayers of your people: For Church of the Apostles, for our sister church, Redeemer Anglican, and for the Gikomero Church in Rwanda, that we would use the money, time and spiritual gifts you provide to advance the work of your kingdom. Make us faithful stewards of all that you provide. For the work of our mission partner Community Hope as we work together to reach out to our neighbors nearby; That students would grow academically and spiritually, and that we would extend the love of Christ to their families. Lord, the eyes of all look to you, and you meet our needs at the proper time; Give us godly wisdom and trust in you to meet our needs. Lord, you are near to all who call on you. Hear us now as we offer our needs to you. (You are invited to add your own intercessions silently or aloud.) Almighty and eternal God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth: Mercifully accept the prayers of your people, and strengthen us to do your will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. Let us humbly confess our sins to Almighty God: CONFESSION OF SIN (said together) Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep, we have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts, we have offended against your holy laws, we have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done. O Lord, have mercy upon us, spare those who confess their faults, restore those who are penitent, according to your promises declared unto mankind in Christ Jesus our Lord; that we may live godly, righteous, and sober lives, to the glory of your holy name. Amen. The absolution of sin is to be pronounced by a priest who symbolically stands in the authority of God to forgive the sins of those who truly repent (Matthew 16:19, John 20:23). Almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you all your sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen you in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep you in eternal life. Amen. 4

The peace of the Lord be always with you; And also with you. WELCOME and OFFERING Simple Living (A Rich Young Man) 1 A rich young man came to ask of Christ Good teacher will You tell me What must I do for eternal life I've kept Your laws completely Sell all you have give to the poor Then heaven's treasure shall be yours How hard for those who are rich on earth To gain the wealth of heaven 2 Now Jesus sat by the offering gate As people brought their money The rich they filled the collection plate The widow gave a penny Now she's out-given all the rest Her gift was all that she possessed Not what you give but what you keep Is what the King is counting 3 O teach me Lord to walk this road The road of simple living To be content with what I own And generous in giving And when I cling to what I have Please wrest it quickly from my grasp I'd rather lose all the things of earth To gain the things of heaven I'd rather lose all the things of earth To gain the things of heaven Keith Getty Kristyn Getty Stuart Townend 2011 Thankyou Music Getty Music Publishing 5

HOLY COMMUNION (All baptized and believing followers of our Lord Jesus Christ are invited to partake in Holy Communion regardless of denomination. It is our custom to use wine during communion. If you prefer, you may receive grape juice from the smaller chalices on the end of the serving lines. If it would not be authentic for you to receive Communion, you may remain in your seat and contemplate the prayers on the following page.) Is the Father with us? Is Christ among us? Is the Spirit here? This is our God. We are His people. Lift up your hearts. Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. He is. He is. He is. Father, Son and Holy Spirit. We are redeemed. We lift them up to the Lord. It is right to give Him thanks and praise. Leader continues in Eucharistic Prayer Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again. Our Father In Heaven (The Lord s Prayer) Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your Name Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as in heav'n Give us today our daily bread Forgive us our sins As we forgive those who sin against us Save us from the time of trial And deliver us from evil For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours Now and forever, Amen. Eric Wyse 2000 Wildgrove Music (BMI) Unable to come forward? Please inform an usher to request that Communion be brought to you. Gluten-free wafers available upon request. 6

PRAYERS FOR THOSE NOT TAKING HOLY COMMUNION The Church of The Apostles welcomes all Christians who are willing to forsake their sin and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation, to receive Holy Communion with us by coming forward to one of the communion stations at the front. If you are not able to receive Communion, please use this time to meditate on one of the following prayers. Prayer for Those Searching for Truth. Jesus, you claim to be the way, the truth and the life. Grant that I might be undaunted by the cost of following you as I consider the reasons for doing so. If what you claim is true, please guide me, teach me and open me to the reality of who you are. Give me an understanding of you that is coherent, convincing and that leads to the life you promise. Thank you. Prayer of Belief. Lord Jesus Christ, I admit that I am weaker and more sinful than I ever dared admit, but through you I am more loved and accepted than I ever dared hope. I thank you for paying my debt on the cross, taking what I deserved in order to offer me complete forgiveness. Knowing that you have been raised from the dead, I turn from my sins and receive you as my Savior and Lord. Please come into my life through the power of your Holy Spirit. Thank you. COMMUNION SONGS (Please join in singing during communion.) A prayer team is available to pray with you at the back of the worship area. I Am The Bread Of Life 1 I am the Bread of life You who come to Me shall not hunger You who believe in Me shall not thirst No one can come to Me Unless the Father draw them And I will raise you up, and I will raise you up And I will raise you up on the last day 2 The bread that I will give Is My flesh for the life of the world And you who eat of this bread You shall live forever, you shall live forever 3 I am the Resurrection, I am the Life You who believe in me Even if you die, you shall live forever.
