First United Methodist Church January 2016 Mission Focus for January is A Brush with Kindness East Central Minnesota Habitat for Humanity A Brush With Kindness is a Christian home preservation service that offers exterior as well as minor interior repair services for homeowners in need. ABWK helps low income homeowners impacted by age, disability and family circumstances, who struggle to maintain their homes. Work ranges from yard clean-up to painting, from building access ramps to installing new siding. Homeowner selection is based on income, need and willingness to partner with ABWK. Volunteer labor and donated materials, when available, are used to keep costs low. Homeowners work alongside volunteers if able. Learn more at http://www.ecmabwk.org/, or visit them on Facebook. There are mission envelopes in each pew if you d like to donate anytime during the month. Mission Sunday is January 17. If you have questions, you can visit with: Nancy Grossmann, Pastor Dan, Boni Stockel, Donn Arnold, Pete Olson or Gerry Gaudette. From the pastor... The word new appears often in Scripture. Jeremiah tells us, The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah. Jesus, at his final meal with his disciples, talked about the new covenant. In Lamentations we read, The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Jesus said, Neither is new wine put into old wineskins; otherwise, the skins burst, and the wine is spilled, and the skins are destroyed; but new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved. Jesus demonstrated his love for us, and then said, I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. And Paul wrote, So if anyone is in Christ, there is a new creation: everything old has passed away; see, everything has become new! Jesus is always doing new stuff. God will accomplish new things in us in 2016. We must be ready. The wineskins must be fresh. Grace and Peace, Pastor Dan Birthdays! I want to know Thy guiding voice, To walk with Thee each day. Dear Master make me swift to hear And ready to obey. And thus the year I now begin A happy year will be If I am seeking just to do The thing that pleaseth Thee. --Unknown Author 3
