Five members of our Club and one guest attended the NAR Spring Conference in Albany, New York. Conference attendees heard speakers from the Federation Fundraising Council and Laurel Society, from the North Eastern Region, as well as from the North Atlantic Region. Soroptimists are encouraged to contribute to SIA and SI fundraising campaigns which helps to fulfill the needs of women and girls worldwide. Members attended informative workshops as well as general sessions that enabled attendees to share successful programs and projects in their Clubs. At the Region business meeting delegates voted on the NAR Proposed Operating Budget and for incoming NAR Executive Board members. The following officers will serve for the biennium: NAR Governor, Deborah R. Cook NAR Governor-Elect, Kathleen Oldenborg (SI Suburban Essex) NAR Treasurer, Jayne Cooper (SI Staten Island) NAR Secretary, Cheryl L. Ford (SI Five Points Magneta) District IV Director, Elizabeth Duck (SI Huntingdon County) At the Awards Luncheon, Region winners for the Ruby Award, Violet Richardson Award, Women s Opportunity Awards and the Ethel F. Lord Award received recognition. The Combined Business Meeting included a Memorial Service, and member and Club appreciations. Our Club received a Program Award and an Outstanding Member Award presented to Alice Lubrecht. The Conference concluded with a kick-off for the 2013 85 th NAR Spring Conference, April 26-28, to be held in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Big cheers to the committee chairs and members for the energy and time they dedicated to their work this Club year. The last two months of the Club year include Scholarship Awards, voting on the 2012-2013 Proposed Budgets, and electing and installing new Board members. As the Club year winds down, we can look forward to our annual Summer Social, a relaxed casual gathering. This annual August event wraps up the year s activities.

SI Harrisburg Annual Awards Program April 24, 2012 All were welcomed by President Renee Jones. The invocation was given by Meghann Connor. President- Elect Susan Wolfe was the mistress of ceremonies for the presentation of awards, as follows: Women s Opportunity Awards presented by Joy Miller, Chair: Amy Lea-Inman $1,000 Le Shelle Smith $1,000 Violet Richardson Award presented by Meghann Connor, Chair: Julianne Carr-Phillips $ 250 Girl Scouts of America $ 250 Ruby Award presented by Patti Krow, Chair: Nancy Chavez, on behalf of Randi s House of Angels $ 300 Community Service Awards presented by Jayne Brinkley, Chair: Tarin Houpt, on behalf of Health Ministries at Christ Lutheran Church $ 300 Jodie Smiley, Executive Director, on behalf of Paxton Ministries $ 200 Also in attendance was Jen Smith, Social Services Kathy Siburt, on behalf of The Cupboard at Calvary, at Calvary United Methodist Church $ 300 Also in attendance was Joann Rohland An overview of the Education Awards was given by President-Elect Susan Wolfe. The club is providing $30,000 in scholarships to be presented in May. Pinnacle Health will receive $1,000 for mammograms. The evening ended with a thank you by President-Elect Susan, announcements by President Renee and the Soroptimist Pledge. Award recipients and committee chairs were gathered for a group photograph. Soroptimist Business COLLECTIONS & DONATIONS Thank you to those who donated eyeglasses, cancelled postage stamps, soup labels, pull tabs, magazines and card fronts. We will continue the collection of eyeglasses for the PA Chapter of Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity, cancelled postage stamps for the Department of Veterans Affairs and Stamp Camp USA, Campbell s soup labels for the Neighborhood Center, books/magazines for PA Partnership for Poland, pull tabs from beverage cans for Ronald McDonald House, and card fronts for St. Jude Children s Research Hospital. The Community Service committee will have a basket at each business meeting for collection of these items. Thank you Club Members! Keep up the good work!
